Paperclip Armrest Makes Sure There’s Enough Room for All Those Elbows

You’re sitting in the waiting room after a long day. Just as you’re about to position your elbow on the armrest, the person beside you rests her elbow on it herself. It’s usually not that big a deal, but hey, if you’re having a tough day, then everything becomes a big deal.

So if you happen to have an office yourself and keep a lot of people waiting for minutes (or worse, hours) on end, then it might be a smart idea to invest in these Paperclip armrests. They could also come in handy on airplanes, trains and long bus rides. That is, if they’ll ever get made.

I gather it’s named “paperclip” because it does look like that inner portion of the paperclip. This way, two elbows or arms can rest on the same armrest: one takes top position, while the other rests on the little nook below. A perfect solution to a universal problem, right?

The Paperclip armrest was a recent red dot design concept winner, and was designed by James Lee.

Bag Hug Chair Doubles as Both Chair and Backpack

Despite the fact that I am usually found sitting at a computer, I do actually enjoy the great outdoors. But you know what my biggest problem with it is (aside from the lack of WiFi)? The lack of chairs.

Alright, so maybe I don’t have that much of an issue with sitting on the ground, or on a log. However, there are plenty of occasions where it would be nice to have my own chair. Now I’ve had those cheap fold-up ones from Walmart, but they’re bulky and not fun to carry around if you’re going to be doing any amount of walking. With this in mind, someone came up with this Bag Hug Chair concept.

What you have here is a somewhat regular-looking backpack, complete with pockets for holding various (small) items. When you take it off, it can be converted into a chair. It’s not the biggest of seats, but that’s the trade-off for having a more portable design. If I could actually get away from the computer enough to justify it, I would probably buy one of these. Now they just need to get it out of the concept phase and into production.

Pouf-Man Seating is Sofa King Cool [Pac-Man]

Let me set one thing straight here. The guys who designed this furniture clearly had no inspiration from any 1980s dot-munching arcade game. Nor does the name “Pouf-Man” have any similarity to the name “Pac-Man”. It’s all on the up-and-up, you see.

Nope, there’s nothing even remotely reminiscent of Pac-Man going on in QAYOT’s Pouf-Man designer seating collection. It’s just a strange coincidence that it has a similar name, that’s all.

I mean really, Pac-Man gobbled power pills and munched on ROUND dots. Nowhere in the original game do I remember any power squares or chewy cubes, do you? And Pac-Man was yellow, not black, white, brown or red, no?

Modular Seating Looks Like Pixel Blocks

This new modular furniture system lets you create custom seating areas by rearranging pixel-like blocks into your own unique layouts.

Created by Joe Doucet, founder of the new design collective Bond., the Scape Modular Seating system lets you transform your living space on a whim, thanks to its moveable seating towers.

Individual seating cushion blocks come in five different heights, and varying shades of gray to create an illusion not dissimilar from a topographic map. To rearrange your space, simple slide the different height cushions into the system’s gridded base, and you can completely change the look and layout of your couch in seconds.
