The lines I hate hearing when I’m sitting down at the dining table about to dig in on my meal when I’m particularly famished are:

Can you please pass the salt?

Can you please sprinkle a little bit of pepper in my soup?

Can you please hand me the salt and pepper shakers?

Of course, I would oblige, since it would be rude not to. But sometimes, I just wish I could just wind them up and send them off their merry way across the table so I can enjoy my food in peace. And that’s exactly what you can do with these Salt & Pepper Bots.

These quirky salt and pepper shakers literally shake as they sashay across your dining table to the person who wants ‘em. Just wind them up, point them in the right direction, and dig in.

Don’t let those condiment passers walk all over you when you’re having dinner. Instead, let these little critters waddle over to them.

This clever tabletop shaker has a simple “on-off” switch on the top, which either diverts salt or pepper to the appropriate opening on the side. No electricity required. It’s simple, geeky and fun. Expect the SWITCH to hit stores later this Spring.

Isn’t technology awesome? Thanks to technology we can add text to pictures of cats! And then within seconds, we can post that same captioned creation online, allowing us to reach out and annoy millions of people! And now, thanks to technology (kinda), even the simple act of grabbing a condiment can be a hoot: Introducing the Pass The Salt salt shaker. It’s equipped with pull back wheels, so it’ll zip straight to the hands of whoever needs salt. Or maybe not.

Seriously here’s what it says on the product page: “it will hopefully maintain trajectory and make contact with the intended target.” Emphasis mine. You can get the Pass The Salt at Lazybone for about $11 (USD). Do not buy this if you have kids, or you will never have a peaceful meal until either the shaker breaks or your kid matures.

I know, I know, what the hell does a salt shaker have to do with technabob? Nothing, really. I normally wouldn’t write about such a dull, utilitarian thing, but this one deserves a mention for its sheer design and wit.

Fred & Friend’s wonderful Saltside Out salt shaker does the seemingly impossible by placing the salt OUTSIDE of the shaker. A clever handblown glass design by Jason Amendolara puts a glass void where the salt shaker would normally go, and the salt in the glass cylinder on the outside of the shaker.

I know this is a shaker is designed for salt, but I’d get two and put finely ground pepper in one, just to complete the look. The Saltside Out shaker is available over at the Neatorama Shop for $13.95 (USD).

If you believe that mixing the perfect cocktail is a science rather than an art, this just may be the perfect complement to your adult beverages. The Cocktail Chemistry set brings an unmatched geek form factor to the table… or rather, to the bar.

The scale shown above, unfortunately, is not part of the set. Instead, you get a sweet rack, an Erlenmeyer flask with a glass mixing rod for extra class (and authenticity), four two ounce shot glasses shaped like test tubes, and a completely unscientific shaker. Not included: any actual drink-mixing ability, but at least with this set, it’ll be fun to practice. You can always drink the results!

Just be careful, and remember that alcohol does in fact burn.
