Sometimes the simple stuff is the coolest to me. I have a bunch of stuff sitting under the TV screen in my living room. I have the Kinect and my center channel speaker for starters. When we play Wii I put the sensor for it there too so it can pick up my daughter better.

This cool shelf called the ScreenDeck is available that will give you a bit more space on top of your TV to put these things. I have seen these sort of shelves before, but the last one I saw actually attached to the top of the TV, and I didn’t like that much.

The ScreenDeck has some metal bars that hold it a bit above the TV screen and mount to the VESA mount holes on the set. You could still put your Wii sensor under it and hold that center channel speaker too. It will hold anything you can think of up to a certain point. The shelf itself doesn’t look strong enough for anything super heavy, but VESA mounts are already designed to hold the entire weight of your TV, so your set should be safe with most anything. You can pre-order the ScreenDeck right now for $39.95 on Amazon.

Neatoramanaut Dennis shared pics of Super Mario-themed shelves that he and his girlfriend Judith put together for their apartment. Actually Judith did almost everything. And Mama Mia, what a piece of woodwork:

The shelves and cloud are all made of wood, while the mushroom, Mario and Luigi figures were store bought; naturally, the princess is missing. The question mark covers on the shelves swing open, so you can easily conceal stuff like flowers, stars, mushrooms, or spare coins in them. The warp pipe is made from a garbage can and transports Judith and Dennis to the World Wide Web, among other things: the pipe hides their Internet, phone and power cables.

Judith surely put a lot of work to make their room awesome, but Dennis also contributed to the Mario look: he designed a sweet sweet sweet looking Game Boy Super Mario clock that I would definitely steal from them if given the slightest chance.

Note that I said “designed”. That’s what Dennis said, so I take it Super Judith was the one who actually made the clock as well. She’s not done either – Dennis says she’s currently working on a Koopa shelf. Have fun with that Judith! May your apartment be safe from harm. I was just joking about stealing your clock. Actually no I’m not. The rest of you can drool at the Super Mushroomized pics of Judith and Dennis’ Mario furniture over at Neatorama.

I got a fever, and actually the only prescription is not more cowbell, but more Tetris. Lately I’ve been having a slight obsession with that beloved game of my young adulthood and I don’t know why. My yearning has been appeased a bit, though, thanks to these cool Tetrad Flat shelves by Brooklyn’s Brave Space Design.

The shelves are modular and are made of lightweight sustainable Finland plywood. You can choose a white or natural finish for the wood, and white or colored metal backs. They can be attached to each other, hung on the wall or left separately to create that I’m-a-casual-yet-stylish-gamer statement in your home.

Maybe if I had a set of these I wouldn’t be dreaming of arranging all those pieces in my head late at night during my REM sleep.

$1500 for a set of ten pieces right here.

Here’s a clever piece of home decor for those who can’t get enough algebra in their lives. This bookshelf cleverly integrates mathematical symbols into its design.

The equation bookshelf comes from the imagination of estúdio breder. According to the designer, the incorporation of parentheses, square brackets and braces around your books and other tschotchkes isn’t just for show. It’s actually created to help you prioritize the sequence in which you plan on needing them. Put your most significant objects in the parentheses, then work your way out, just like you do when working a math problem.

At this point, it looks like the shelf is just a conceptual design, so we can only hope that the artist decides to produce these. If only I had one of these on my wall, so I could calculate the probability of that happening…

Actually, the Modular Speaker Double Shelf is actually a pretty clever idea, combining both a sound system and a storage unit into a single piece of furniture. Just hang it on your wall, hook up your MP3 player and you’ll be cranking out the tunes. The $129 shelving unit measures in at 36″(w) x 13″(h) x 6″ (d) and comes in both white and blue finishes.
