This plush Koopa shell backpack is awesome. It measures about 16-inches in diameter, and turns you into a Koopa in like two seconds. Of course you run the risk of people jumping on you and tossing you across the room, but still, it’s a great way to carry your stuff.

You might be tempted to walk really slow back and forth like a Zombie with a shell, or feel the urge to go all Hammer Bros. on someone and bar people’s path even, but I say as long as you look the part, go for it. Just don’t be surprised when a plumber jumps on you and your shell goes flying.

It won’t be long before we have to start throwing bananas at these things, when they make our roads something out of a Mad Max movie produced by Nintendo, but for now it looks like a whole lot of fun. Michael Overstreet and a bunch of fellow makers are having turtle shell races in Kansas City. Many of the parts used to create these bots were printed on a MakerBot 3D printer. We don’t have much info yet, but it looks like they are remote controlled from smartphones and not a Wii-mote.

The MLG Vault is a shell that wraps around the outside of your Xbox 360 (the slim black version only), giving it a whole new style in minutes. There will be several models of Vault cases coming out from Calibur11, but my favorite has to be the MLG (Major League Gaming) Vault shown here. The case comes in a cool dark camouflage color scheme, and has a bad-ass looking mask, reminiscent of the baddies from Half-Life 2 sticking out of the side. I happened to get a look at one of these up close and personal back during CES, and the eyeballs even light up in different colors. Sweet.

In addition to looking cool, the Vault will support optional accessories, including customizable nameplates, and a headset caddy on the side of your console. It’s also designed not to interfere with the ventilation of your 360 at all, although I do wonder if just the simple act of thickening the plastic walls of your console will increase its heat levels.

If you prefer a version without the scary looking mask sticking out of the side, the more subdued Base Vault is available now for $59.95 (USD).  The MLG edition should be available from Best Buy stores sometime in March for $89.95.

The XCM Cyberbot case doesn’t just look awesome, it actually lets you see your Blu-ray or DVD disc spinning when it’s switched on.

No word on how much the Cyberbot case will retail for, but you’ll probably be able to find one at Extreme-Mods or Totalconsole any day now.

The case replaces the outside of your Xbox 360 controller with a rich, delicious coffee-colored shell.

Like other XCM case replacements for the Xbox 360, the controller includes a matching D-pad, LED backlit ABXY buttons and color-coordinated shoulder and trigger buttons. Now XCM likes to say this is a coffee lover’s controller mod, but I actually think it’s exactly what it would look like if you dipped your controller in a creamy milk chocolate shell. Either way, it looks delicious to me.

The cool thing about the XCM Blue Blood is that it’s actually a kit that you can use to mod your boring white Xbox 360 controller into a thing of true beauty.

Not only does the Blue Blood controller shell have the perfect electric blue finish, it’s super shiny, and comes with an improved D-pad design that’s larger and easier to move than the stock 360 controller. The controller also comes with a set of LED-illuminated replacement ABXY buttons, along with dramatic blue backlighting for the dashboard, select and start buttons. Sweet, indeed.

XCM even includes the proper screwdriver in the kit so you don’t need any extra tools to replace the shell. Here’s who didn’t design the Dark Ops Wii Light Gun: people who design guns. Certainly this gun shell is neat-looking and stands out even in the crowded field of retail and DIY Wii controller shells, but it doesn’t look nearly as realistic as as the gritty action film marketing is trying to imply.

Also, reaching the D-pad with this thing has got to be a major pain in the thumb area. This gun was clearly made for a race of man with more, and longer, digits than those of the modern human, but at least it’s not the same boring white plastic found in most other Wii guns.

These shells, available for both DS and DSi, look both amazing and completely uncomfortable. Can you imagine playing with that thing dragging you down? And wouldn’t it make you hungry all the time? And yet, it’s strangely compelling. Ah, the beckoning siren of whipped cream… the call of delicious cookies….

The shells are handmade and available from Japanese retailer Rakouten at a premium: ¥4,480 ($48). Think of all the real dessert you could by with that money.

The case replaces the entire exterior of your 360 to produce an out-of-this-world green glow when placed in a darkened room. When the lights come on, it still looks pretty cool, letting you peer inside the guts of your console through a pearly see-through outer layer.

This chrome Xbox 360 shell wraps your console with a gorgeous surface that’s so gleaming that you could use it as a mirror (a bendy circus mirror for sure, but a mirror nonetheless).

The case has just started shipping, and should be available for around $60 from Extreme-Mods any day now. If that’s not enough chrome for you, there’s a matching chrome hard drive cover for $25 and an LED lighted controller replacement shell for about $30.

Created by industrial design student Joonas Saaranen, the Reppo II backpack features a built in pair of full-range speakers and an amplifier, so you can kick out the jams as you walk down the street. The only thing better would be if that big black patch were a subwoofer. Of course, that might shatter your vertebrae if you turned up the volume too much.

Saaranen’s concept design has gotten as far as a functional prototype at this point, but he hasn’t revealed if he’ll ever have them produced en masse. In the mean time, if you happen to be in Berlin, Germany (where Joonas currently resides) and hear someone coming down the street wearing this bad boy, offer up the mad props he deserves.

I’m particularly enamored of the fiery Red Ronin case as well as the luscious emerald Green Tanto.

In addition to the intense primary colors, the Evolve case series comes in chrome, black and clear variants among others.

The cases offer complete coverage of your entire Wii console, including replacement feet and screw covers. Talismoon even includes the tools you need to swap out the shell.

These covers from ChroMac wrap around the outside of your white plastic iMac, giving it a dramatic new look. The metal-plated cases come in a variety of finishes including chrome, black chrome, 24k gold, antique gold, platinum as well as several other rich colors.

ChroMac uses high-end plating techniques to coat an aluminum body, resulting in a really striking look for your iMac. At $400 to $500 a piece, they’re not exactly cheap, but they’re worth a look if you want to give your iMac a visual update without buying a whole new computer.

The Wii Dazzle Colorful from GT Coupe is a translucent plastic shell that snaps over the exterior of your Wii, adding a layer of color over the standard white case.

In addition to the colored plastic shell, the kit includes a vertical stand with a built-in fan and blue LED illumination.

The shells are made in several different colors, but importer DealExtreme currently is only carrying the pink variety (for about 30 bucks). If you’re looking for one of the other colors (or a better price), you might have some luck digging around on eBay.

The Shock! Magnum Chrome replacement shell gives your DS Lite gaming system a shiny metallic finish. By using copper-nickel-chrome electroplating, the exterior of the case really looks like metal, and is supposed to resist scratches too (although fingerprints are a different story.)

The chrome outer shell is available from ConsoleShop for $39.95 and can be replaced in about 10 or 15 minutes if you have the right tools and follow the directions properly. If you really want to complete the effect, the makers of the case offer a variety of color interior replacements (like the matte black one pictured above) which cost another $29.95 and add quite a bit of complexity to the delicate operation.

The clear replacement shell features a cool glow in multiple LED colors. The case backlighting gradually cycles between 7 colors giving your Wii a case of disco fever.

Pricing and release date haven’t been announced yet, but their blue-only version, the I-Case Crystal is already available from Divineo for $59.95. I’d imagine the multi-color version won’t be much more.

The Chrome I-Case for Wii costs $37.99 and should start shipping around the end of March (you can pre-order one here.) Installation is said to be easy, which is unusual for a full case replacement. The I-Case will also be available in crystal blue and black finishes if this one is too shiny for your taste.

(If you don’t have a Wii, but have an Xbox 360 or an iPod, you can still get in on the chrome action.)

National Console Support is now offering replacement shells for the Xbox 360 in see-through, glossy black, and an oh-so-lovely chrome finish. Installation doesn’t look too painful, but unless you’re comfortable cracking open your 360, these cases probably aren’t for you. The replacement shells retail for $49 each.
