A new concept plug from Luofang Jun called the Total Plug Safety, and promises to keep you from shocking the crap out of yourself. The plug is normal enough, but it has a blue accordion-like folding sheath that covers the prongs of the plug as they go in and out of the socket. The thing is sort of like a plug condom, keeping the prongs from spilling their electricity all over the place.

As you unplug the cord, the sheath extends so all you touch if you are not paying attention is the plastic. This would also be a great way to keep kids from shocking themselves as well. The concept is cool, but some have pointed out that plugs in Europe are recessed to prevent this from happening there already.

You can order the shocking tanks at Amazon for $50 (USD). The shocking comes at a price though: you’ll need a total of 12 batteries – 6 AAA and 6 AA – to operate the tanks, so you better have a bunch of rechargeable batteries ready if you want the fun to last. And here’s another tip: switch the controllers so your opponent would get shocked whenever they hit your tank. That’ll teach ‘em!

It looks like a mouse. It feels like a mouse. But when it clicks like a mouse, the shocking mouse zaps the clicker. And it’s important to note that SourcingMap, where the shocking mouse turned up, wants to make sure you know that this is an adult toy. Tokyo electronic artist / programmer / composer /DJ Daito Manabe connected each of his four friends to the business-end of his “Face Visualizer” device, which shoots computer-controlled myoelectric charges through the wires. Each shock results in an involuntary muscle twitch on its recipient’s victim’s face.

While Daito previously has subjected himself and some his cohorts to this torturous-looking procedure, this video has to be my favorite, offering four times the fun of his others.

I also enjoyed this one, in which Daito attempted to “copy” his facial movements onto his friends. Creepy, but fun to watch nonetheless.

Available in PSP, iPod and laser pointer versions, the $3.95 devices all deliver a tiny zap of current to your unsuspecting victim. Surprisingly, the laser pointer is actually functional, but don’t expect to play any games or music on the other gadgets. There’s also a fake car alarm remote that I came across a few weeks back too.

On a couple of occasions in my I’ve had defective electronic gear that decided to surprise me with a nasty jolt, but doing it intentionally just strikes me as plain cruel.

The thing that makes me a bit nervous about this gag is that the company who makes them says there’s a laser pointer built into it, but it’s broken out of the box. There’s a hole and a button for the beam, but they don’t seem to do anything. Ah… nothing like quality control. I figure if they’re able to make that kind of glaring mistake, what’s the likelihood they got the amperage correct so you just annoy your buddies, rather than send them to an untimely demise.

If you’re willing to take a gamble, you can pick up a pair of these from DealExtreme for the appropriately oddball price of $5.52 USD.

DS Lite replacement cases lets you swap out the shell and buttons of your system with new colors incluiding yellow, blue, red, black and a translucent case that lets you see all the gory innards of your DS Lite. The replacement cases rund $34.90 each, and should be available in the coming weeks.
