I would bet at one time or another we have all shocked ourselves from the AC outlets in our homes when were weren’t paying attention unplugging a device or plugging it in. You know how it works, you are distracted and touch the prongs before they are all the way out of the outlet and zap.

A new concept plug from Luofang Jun called the Total Plug Safety, and promises to keep you from shocking the crap out of yourself. The plug is normal enough, but it has a blue accordion-like folding sheath that covers the prongs of the plug as they go in and out of the socket. The thing is sort of like a plug condom, keeping the prongs from spilling their electricity all over the place.

As you unplug the cord, the sheath extends so all you touch if you are not paying attention is the plastic. This would also be a great way to keep kids from shocking themselves as well. The concept is cool, but some have pointed out that plugs in Europe are recessed to prevent this from happening there already.

I don’t know what it is with cheap-o novelty makers and their insistence on making mock versions of everyday objects that intentionally jolt you with electricity. I suppose we can blame those old Adams joy buzzer tricks for inspiring such malevolent goods. So here we have the latest in a long line of nasty surprises – shock chocolate (say that ten times fast.)

And these aren’t just any shocking candy bars, nope, they induce “HAPPYNESS BECAUSE OF SHOCK.” Did they recently see that horrible Will Smith movie, or did they come up with that spelling all on their own? Either way, I can assure you that these battery-charged chocolate bars contain Golden Ticket straight to cardiac arrest.

Despite the fact that the product listing says “harmless shocking chocolate,” it goes on to say…

**NOT suitable for children under 14!
**NOT suitable for people suffering from epilepsy, heart disease, or similar illnesses!
**NOT suitable for pregnant lady!
**DO NOT taunt Happy Fun Ball!

Sorry, had to put that last one in there. If you’re really feeling mischievous (and your victim doesn’t fall into one of the above categories), you can get you rotten little hands on these over at Gadget4All for $6 (USD) a bar.

Do you want to teach your kids to become competitive? Then get a set of these radio-controlled shocking tanks, and in no time at all they will appreciate the value of winning. Instead of bullets or shells, the tanks fire infrared beams; whenever a tank is “hit” by the other tank, the person controlling it will receive a mild shock via the controller.

Here’s a nice video of a loving family repeatedly shocking their elder:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can order the shocking tanks at Amazon for $50 (USD). The shocking comes at a price though: you’ll need a total of 12 batteries – 6 AAA and 6 AA – to operate the tanks, so you better have a bunch of rechargeable batteries ready if you want the fun to last. And here’s another tip: switch the controllers so your opponent would get shocked whenever they hit your tank. That’ll teach ‘em!

Isn’t laughter worth more than $3.95? Of course it is, why is why big spenders shell out $5.99 for the shocking mouse. Remember, folks: this is about amusement. What’s two bucks in the face of such a glorious pursuit?

It looks like a mouse. It feels like a mouse. But when it clicks like a mouse, the shocking mouse zaps the clicker. And it’s important to note that SourcingMap, where the shocking mouse turned up, wants to make sure you know that this is an adult toy. It’s right there in the product name: Transparent Red Electric Shocking Mouse Adult Prank Trick Toy. Good to know, guys.

If a mouse isn’t your style, SourcingMap has all sorts of shocking devices, even the good ol’ fashioned hand buzzer.

What do you get when you take four of your closest friends, attach electrodes to their faces, and then fire off small jolts of electricity to the beats of electronica? Video genius, I say.

Tokyo electronic artist / programmer / composer /DJ Daito Manabe connected each of his four friends to the business-end of his “Face Visualizer” device, which shoots computer-controlled myoelectric charges through the wires. Each shock results in an involuntary muscle twitch on its recipient’s victim’s face.

While Daito previously has subjected himself and some his cohorts to this torturous-looking procedure, this video has to be my favorite, offering four times the fun of his others.

I also enjoyed this one, in which Daito attempted to “copy” his facial movements onto his friends. Creepy, but fun to watch nonetheless.

Available in PSP, iPod and laser pointer versions, the $3.95 devices all deliver a tiny zap of current to your unsuspecting victim. Surprisingly, the laser pointer is actually functional, but don’t expect to play any games or music on the other gadgets. There’s also a fake car alarm remote that I came across a few weeks back too.

On a couple of occasions in my I’ve had defective electronic gear that decided to surprise me with a nasty jolt, but doing it intentionally just strikes me as plain cruel.

This may look like an ordinary car keychain remote, but it won’t actually open any vehicle. Instead, it lets out a tiny jolt of electricity when your unsuspecting victim presses the wrong button.

The thing that makes me a bit nervous about this gag is that the company who makes them says there’s a laser pointer built into it, but it’s broken out of the box. There’s a hole and a button for the beam, but they don’t seem to do anything. Ah… nothing like quality control. I figure if they’re able to make that kind of glaring mistake, what’s the likelihood they got the amperage correct so you just annoy your buddies, rather than send them to an untimely demise.

If you’re willing to take a gamble, you can pick up a pair of these from DealExtreme for the appropriately oddball price of $5.52 USD.
