The Nike Sole was designed to fit on Össur’s Flex-Run prosthetic running blade, which is used by competitive amputee athletes. That being said, I wonder if future robots will be using this technology to outrun their human prey?

Nike developed this with world-record holding amputee triathlete Sarah Reinertsen and Össur. The sole has a stacked design and uses a stretch rubber leash over a rubber waffle outsole. Nike used ‘regrind‘ materials salvaged from reused shoes, a polyurethane foam midsole that was topped by a thermal plastic, which was made from recycled air bags.

Plastic tabs lock the sole in place. Reinertsen tested the prototypes and worked with the design team to develop this incredible high-performance running solution.

Seriously though, I wonder when, if not already, amputee runners will be able to run faster than able-bodied ones.

After spending a few months at the local gym, I have come to identify certain areas and avoid certain people because (there’s no other nicer to say it) they have stinky feet.

I learned this the hard way the first few times I happened to stop by the lounge or canteen where a lot of people who had just finished with their workouts were hanging out. Propped down on plush seats, off come the socks–and out spreads the stench.

To these people, I have one thing to say: Shuvee.

The Shuvee is the ultimate shoe sanitizing machine. It uses the same effective ultraviolet light technology that hospitals use to sanitize their gear. The UV light goes after bacteria that causes bad odor and itchiness to people who are unknowingly breeding these germs in their shoes.

Just turn the Shuvee on, plug your shoe in, and leave it for an hour. It has an integrated sensor which activates with weight. For your wider shoes, it actually expands to accommodate the added width.

The Shuvee is available from Taylor’s Gifts for $89.98.

When I was in grade school, I used to rush home every day after school in order to catch my favorite cartoon called Star Blazers. I loved that show and still get the theme song stuck in my head on occasion. It was one of those Japanimation shows that were all over the place in the early 80′s on kids TV.

I don’t remember the name of the giant ship they floated around space in, but I do recall it had guns everywhere and this shoe reminds me of that cartoon. It also looks like the shoe that Gundam would kick it in on his off day. The shoe was concocted by artist Phil Noto for a custom sneaker art show at the Bold Hype Gallery in NYC.

This thing looks really cool, and it appears that he used a bunch of plastic model pieces with some gray paint to come up with the design. I wonder what ship that 27 is supposed to reference. If you are geek enough to catch that reference, be sure to let us know.

The latest in Shanzhai phone tech to pop on the streets of China, this unusual mobile phone looks like a shoe. Nope, not the one that Agent 86 had, but a bright and colorful adidas sneaker.

I like how when you flip it over, this phone even has a rubber sole on the back. Other than looking like footwear, we’re really not sure why anyone would want this phone, as it’s really just your basic old-school clamshell cellphone. Plus, we’re not even sure if this is legitimate adidas merch, or if it’s some cheap trademark copycat.

On the plus side, it’s likely to sell for less than $80 bucks, fully unlocked. Now all you have to do is head to China, and start digging through countless schlock shops to find one. Heck, in keeping with the theme, why don’t you run there instead of flying?

The “modern high heels” phone is the perfect gadget for the..uh..person who collects novelty handsets. What? People have collected far weirder things. At least this one is useful.

On the plus side, it’s cheaper than most real high heeled shoes would cost you, selling for $22 (USD) over at gadget4all. On the minus side, they are phones that look like fugly high heels and who uses land-line phones anymore? Maybe this is what Maxwell Smart would have used for his calls if he were a cross-dresser.

Love Dr. Who? Then have I got a shoe for you! A Dalek shoe, to be true. Yup, that’s a pair of handpainted Daleks gracing those black sneakers.

These shoes are no one-note craft, though. In addition to the Dalek painting on the front, you’ve also got “EXTERMINATE” written on the back. Ergo, no matter what direction you’re facing, your shoes will be shown to be more unique than anyone else’s.

These were created by kelly_bear, who originally envisioned a Dalek on one shoe and a Cyberman on the other shoe, so that her shoes could reenact an epic battle at a moment’s notice. Upon realizing it was too hard to paint a Cyberman she decided to go double-Dalek instead.

You’ve gotta love the choice of pink argyle to soften up the evilness.

“A Step in the Right Direction” is a sneaker that detects Wi-Fi while you walk, via a tricky network detection unit embedded under the left shoe flap.

The three LEDs on the flap (supposedly) show you how much Wi-Fi action is within 50 meters. If the lights are blinky, you’ve got bupkis. If they’re solid, you’ve got a wifi signal. Question: why couldn’t they just make the lights turn competely off if there’s no signal? It seems inane. Still, if you’re worried these will keep you awake all night with their blinking, don’t fret- the LEDs only become activated when pressure is detected on the insole, or in layman’s terms, if you’re walking around.

These kooky kicks are a collaborative project by mstrpln and Ubiq. Their goal was to merge “digital culture with fashion and design into a wearable technology.” I think they got the digital part down OK, but the fashion thing is questionable, eh? Generally I think of blinky light-up shoes as the bailiwick of the under-8 set.

I’m not sure if they’re for sale, but thekalaka.com sees to be a Brasilian boutique specializing in urban wear, so if you happen to be in <strike>São Paulo</strike> Buenos Aires, you might be able to pick up a pair.

For the rest of us, we’ll just have to admire them from a distance. Wakka, wakka, wakka.

Apparently, there’s a complete Nintendo Entertainment System stuffed inside of this Nike tennis shoe. Not since Maxwell Smart’s shoe phone has there been such a great combination of footwear and technology.

Apparently, Nike is getting ready to release a new digital watch that can record and upload data from their Nike+ shoe sensors without the use of an iPod. The new watch, called the Nike Speed+ appeared for just a few minutes on Nike’s European website before vanishing. Luckily, an enterprising visitor managed to grab a screenshot of the new watch and its details before the page went away.

According to the description, the watch will feature wireless integration with Nike+ in-shoe sensors. It can then display distance, pace, elapsed time and calories burned information on the watch’s LCD backlit display. A USB port is provided for downloading data to the Nikeplus website for historical progress tracking. As one would expect with such a leak, no pricing or release date was revealed.
