Have you ever wondered how it would be if you didn’t have to stand or sit while showering? Check out Dornbracht’s Horizontal Shower, that allows you to lie down completely while a series of six high intensity jets massage your body.

The Horizontal Shower looks pretty cool, even though it takes up a lot of space and would steam your bathroom up instantly. While the way that Dornbracht has presented is fraught with problems for the average consumer, I can see that the concept could be improved upon if it were optimized.

I don’t know if this would work well to get you going in the morning, but it’s probably fabulous right before going to bed or after a workout. The hard slab of concrete must also get uncomfortable, but you get the idea of how relaxing it could be – especially if they added some sort of soft liner to the part where you lie down.

There’s no word on price, but chances are it’s quite expensive. If you can afford one, it would certainly make an interesting addition to your mansion.

I find myself thinking of a lot of things when I shower. It’s one of those times in my day where I can just, you know, be alone and reflect on the day ahead (when it’s early morning) or the day that was (when it’s late at night.)

Long showers may be good for you, in the hygienic and therapeutic sense. But when a water shortage is upon your region, taking extremely long showers (and using a lot of water in the process) might not be a very good idea.

After seeing a sign that read “Please use water sparingly” in a hotel room, Paul Priestman developed the WaterPebble.

What the WaterPebble does is monitor the amount of water that’s going down the drain. It takes note of the amount of water you used when you first showered with it and uses this as the benchmark for the rest of your showers – so make sure you shower just right the first time you use it.

For your subsequent showers, the WaterPebble will then flash from green to yellow to red like a traffic light to signal when it’s time for you to wrap your bath up. It will fractionally reduce your shower with each use, so you will slowly work your way to using less water each time.

You can get the Water Pebble from Uncommon Goods for $10(USD), or in the UK at Amazon UK for £9.99.

This morning, I woke up forty-five minutes past the time I was supposed to. So I immediately went into my five-minute “I can’t be late for work” mode: run to the bathroom, run my hair under the tap, wrap it in a towel while I change into my office clothes, run a comb through said wet hair, wear shoes, grab an apple from the fridge, and go. I made it to the office, just in the nick of time.

Apparently, there’s a lot of people who have similar routines when they wake up in the morning with just a few minutes to spare to get their bed heads in order. People like Max Velverde.

Max has had some hectic mornings himself, which prompted him to come up with Morning Head. Basically, it’s a polyurethane cap with a super absorbent cloth lining on the inside. Just pour water into it, put it over your head, rub it around as if you were shampooing, and remove it to reveal a full head of wet hair – in as little as five seconds.

If you’re interested in backing this project, head on over to Kickstarter to do so. Those who make a pledge of at least $10(USD) will be able to get two of these Morning Heads sent their way.

There’s probably something to be said about LED shower heads or light therapy in general, especially when you have just woken up. This LED Color Changing Shower Head is from Chinavasion and the colors will change depending on the temperature of the water, making it easy to figure out if the water is going to scald you or freeze you.

Temperatures below 90°F make it turn green, temps between 91 and 105°F it becomes blue and 107 to 113°F will make it red. If it gets above 114°F, the shower head will start to flash, alerting you to the danger of potentially scalding yourself. These shower heads don’t require any batteries. There is an internal generator powered by the flow of water to charge it up.

You can get one for just $13 a pop here. That’s not a bad price for something like this.

I was surfing around over on Flickr this morning and stumbled onto this awesome Space Invaders shower curtain.

It’s the perfect complement to any video game themed bathroom (you know you want one). It would look great alongside a Mario Kleenex box or with Pac-Man tile work or a Donkey Kong Junior shower for instance.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to buy one. From everything I can tell, the design comes from artist Jordi Alacont for a product line called Stickwalls. But there’s no information on where to buy, how much they cost or if this was just a custom one-off. Damned invaders!

[Thanks to the wonders of Google, I got out by black light and DNA analyzer was able to do a little CSI-style detective work and dug up the following details. If you want to try and hunt down a Space Invaders shower curtain for yourself. Stickwalls is based in Mexico and makes a variety of custom vinyl designs. They don't have an online shop, but can be contacted via e-mail. While you're at it, ask them about this.]

Looking to make a real impression the next time you have guests over? This over-the-top LED shower head will definitely get their attention when they go to hop in the shower.

Crosswater’s RIO shower head is loaded with 96 computer-controlled LEDs in red, green and blue clusters so they can be mixed to create just about any color in the spectrum. Each one is focused to illuminate a powerful stream of water coming out of the 15-inch diameter shower head’s hundreds of needle-thin jets.

Now while this thing looks really cool, and I’d love to take a shower under one of these, I think I’ll have to pass for now. You see, the RIO retails for the insane price of £2799 (about $4454 USD). I could probably get a entire bathroom gut-remodeled for that much coin.

If you’d rather keep that money you’ve been saving for junior’s college fund, you could always grab this slightly less refined LED shower head over at ThinkGeek for just $49.99.

Each tile’s color and location was based on an individual pixel from a blown-up screenshot of the Nintendo arcade classic.

There’s nothing quite like taking a shower with a baby monkey. I do it all the time.

This isn’t exactly high-tech, but it’s a strange enough gadget that I wanted to share it. It’s a waterproof radio for your shower that’s disguised as a shampoo bottle.

Sooo… what’s the rationale behind this product? The only thing I can think of is that it’s to prevent theft of your super awesome shower radio. But that doesn’t make sense because this thing looks really cheap. I mean, I have single bottles of real shampoo that probably cost more than a whole case of these things. Whatever the reason, this wins the prize for being the most pointless gadget I’ve come across lately. (OK, so realistically, maybe it’s a tie with the s’mores maker, but it’s definitely up there.)

The stats: it takes 3 AAA batteries and adds absolutely no value to your life or decor. It looks like it’s a wholesale item, so if you’d like to stock these in your (obviously somewhat craptastic) shop check out the deets on Alibaba.

This mouse-shaped soap, with the distinctive scroll wheel silhouette, will clean you from head to toe. Of course, after the first use it will pretty much just look like regular soap since it starts out so close to Zest-shape in the first place.

It comes in white or black, because who doesn’t want black suds? Wait, what? Black soap? That’s a little strange, no? Anyway, it’s from yeduo and appears to be just a prototype, which is fine by me. I get enough computational action all day long. The last thing I need is to wake up every morning and shower with soapy stand-ins for my peripherals.

Ever step into the shower in the morning and accidentally turn on the hot instead of the cold? Now you can make matters even more confusing to you bleary-eyed state of mind with this 3rd knob.

But this shower control doesn’t change the water temperature. Instead, it controls the volume on a compact AM/FM radio.

The radio grips onto your shower walls with a suction cup back, and is fully waterproof. While you won’t get scalded with hot water from this thing, I take no responsibility if you turn it on and the latest song from Fergie is playing.

It’s available from Korea’s Funshop for 29,800 Korean Won (about $32 bucks.)
