You’ve probably already heard of the Sony AIBO, which was the first electronic toy that I virtually begged my parents to get me since they wouldn’t let me get a real puppy. I didn’t get one, sadly, but now that I’ve got a live puppy of my own, I don’t really care much for virtual pets anymore.

Except if it looks as cute but not so cuddly as Wappy.

Nintendo Wappy
Nintendo was able to release a highly successful virtual pet simulation game with Nintendogs + Cats, but Activision is fast on their heels with their planned Wappy Dog video game. The latter plans to take full advantage of the 3D capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS but it’s got something that Nintendo didn’t put into their virtual pet game: a real-life Wappy Dog you can touch and play with.

As with all the other virtual simulation games out there, the goal is to take care of your pet as you would a real one. Make sure to keep Wappy happy by feeding him regularly, playing with him, and cleaning up on him as well.

Even though the case enables two SIM cards to be simultaneously online, you’ll still have to pick one to use as a master SIM, which will have access to all features of your network provider and the iPhone 4, including web surfing via 3G. The non-master SIM will only be able to send and receive calls and SMS messages, nothing more. Not even a phonebook of its own. Here’s a demo of the case receiving calls on two different numbers:

USB Fever sells the Dual Standby/Dual SIM with Power Pack case for the iPhone 4 for $250 (USD), although it’s out of stock as of this writing. Also for that price you might as well get a second phone if you don’t mind carrying an extra gadget.

Ah, what a sweet young bride. So… uh… animated.

The thing that sets Love Plus apart from other dating sims of this time is that it revolves around actual interaction of this type… it’s just that I’m not sure anyone expected someone to take it to this extreme. With Love Plus, as soon as you get the girl,  you’re supposed to take her out and engage with her in the real world. As in, you take her on dates, where she probably eats as much as a real girl (but at least she costs less).

The proud new groom is planning a reception for November 22. He has invited the media to attend, so I’m sure there will be lots of interesting footage to check out. I wonder if anyone is going to ask him how he feels about all those other Nenes out there with all their boyfriends.

Adding a new dimension of immersion to sim games, each individual color LCD screen can display live information fed to it by special game drivers. They’ve already got a working Microsoft Flight Simulator X driver, and expect to support more games in future.

The LCDs should retail for about $99 each, and multiple displays can be used at the same time. They’re expected to be released later this year.

I’m looking forward to the hacking potential of these add-ons.
