I’ve had my fair share of lucid dreams, although most of these turned out to be some pretty bad nightmares where I was running for my life. Most people I know, however, haven’t experienced many lucid dreams. Now there’s a new device that claims to help you experience more lucid dreams, the Remee.

Created by Bitbanger Labs, Remee looks like a sleep mask with LED lights embedded in the side facing your eyes. Basically, six red lights will strobe, sweep and blink at customizeable intervals to stimulate your visual field, improving REM sleep and increasing the chances of lucid dreaming, so you can control your own dreams.

Remee is available in various designs, from plain ones to masks with patterns and colorful images. The project is raising funds on Kickstarter through May 18th. A pledge of $80(USD) or more will get you a standard Remee mask, while $100 will get you one of the interstellar prints shown above. The project has already reached its funding goal, so they’re definitely going to be produced.

When I think of hammocks, I’m reminded of the cool, summer afternoons I spent just lazing away in my backyard. When I think of sleeping bags, I remember the few but memorable camping trips I went to with my dad, uncle, and some naughty cousins. Now put the two together and try to think of what you’ll end up with.

If you answered with the Grand Trunk Hammock-Compatible Sleeping Bag, then you’ve hit the bull’s eye. These are basically sleeping bags with a special slot where a hammock can pass through, so you can sleep in utmost comfort and relaxation.

This will do wonders for your back, since you won’t be lying flat down onto the hard ground anymore. And since it keeps you up off the ground, you’ll be further away from creepy crawlies while you rest.

The Grand Trunk Hammock Sleeping Bag is available for sale online for $179.99 (USD).

Everyday, at around one in the afternoon, I begin to yawn excessively and get extremely sleepy like clockwork. Blame it on the warm temperature here or on the fact that I just had an incredibly filling lunch, but this huge wave of sleepiness just hits me at the same time, every single day.

Oh, how I wish I had one of these Dictionary Desk Pillows in my bookshelf. You see, this extremely thick volume doesn’t cram millions of definitions in it, but a huge, cushy and comfortable-looking pillow instead. When it’s snapped shut, you can simply place it on your book case and no one will be any wiser.

There’s only one problem though: unless you speak Chinese, then it might strike some people as odd that you’d have this huge dictionary in your shelf. The Dictionary Desk Pillows are available from the Japan Trend Shop for $80 (USD), making them some expensive pillows, too. I’m sure if you live in Japan, you can get one for quite a bit less.

Aside from the usual functions of an alarm clock – telling the time, making you irritated first thing in the morning – the Napper has a one-press nap alarm mode. Just press any of the three nap buttons to set an alarm – the number on top indicates the duration of the countdown in minutes. Alarms set this way will not replace any alarm previously made on the regular setting.

The Napper lets you easily take short naps 15, 30 or 60 minutes in length. I actually nodded off in approval when I saw this product. Then I realized how easy it already is to set up an alarm on my phone. Then I looked at the Napper again and resumed nodding off once more.

We recently featured a pair of cushioned earphones that you can use while lying in bed. Here’s another alternative for those of you who like to doze off while listening to music, audiobooks, or anything but their partner’s snoring (or voice). Called SleepPhones, they’re fleece headbands with removable earphones inside them. The maker Acoustic Sheep calls them “pajamas for your ears.” I call them headbands for your head.

Like most headbands, SleepPhones are made of lightweight and washable material and grip around your noggin’ firmly enough so that they won’t fall off without causing discomfort, even if you lie on your side. You can also use them as sleep masks. Or as a headband. Here’s an unboxing and short review of SleepPhones by BWOne:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can order a pair of SleepPhones from Amazon or ThinkGeek for $40 (USD). Or you can make your own if you’ve got the requisite skills. I think if you’re up to Level 7 in sewing you can easily transmute a Common Fleece Headband and Inferior Stock Earphones into a SleepPhone. And if your headband is slotted, add a Gem of Sleep in there and you could sell that baby for about 300 gold.

Jukusui-kun is a robot in a pillow. But it’s not any ordinary pillow-robot. Jukusui-kun helps you stop snoring. If you’ve ever slept with someone that snores, you’ll know that getting a good night’s rest can be a challenge. Heck, sometimes being in the same house as a snorer can be disruptive. Thankfully, the Japanese have solved the problem… with technology!

The robotic pillow was developed at the Kabe laboratory at Waseda University in Tokyo. It’s shaped like a bear and is supposed to stop snoring in heavy sleepers. The name translates to Mr. Deep-Sleep. It comes equipped with a microphone to detect snoring. There is also a sensor which monitors your heart rate and blood oxygen levels. Usually, when snoring starts, blood oxygen levels drop and your heart rate goes up. Once snoring is detected, the paws come into action, gently brushing the snorer’s head to stop them from sawing any more logs.

Jukusui-kun was exhibited at the 19th International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo earlier this month, but for now, plans for its commercialization have not been announced.

I once went on a trip with my sisters which was so poorly and haphazardly planned, that we ended up reaching our destination country with an unconfirmed hotel booking, headaches, and extremely hot tempers. We ended up wasting half the night looking for a vacant hotel near the area. Suffice it to say, the rest of the trip went <del>well</del> better and we ended up <del>not biting each other’s heads off</del> having quite a lot of fun.

If only there were one of these Sleepboxes as our destination’s airport. We could have crashed for a few hours and prevented the first wave of panicking that began when we realized that we had no place to sleep in for the night. (And trying to go for a power nap in those uncomfortable airport seats wasn’t even an option.)

So what exactly is a Sleepbox? Well, these are personal, portable boxes that can be placed virtually anywhere people might need to get some emergency shuteye (like airports, convention centers, shopping centers, among others). They can be rented out from periods of half an hour to half a day, depending on the people in charge of them.

These were originally thought up in 2009 by Russia-based Arch Group. This year, they revamped the designs and updated the look of the Sleepboxes, with some of them having storage space for luggage, sockets for charging devices, reading lamps, electric blinds, Wi-Fi capabilities, a safety deposit box, and even a touchscreen TV. It’s like a hotel room, without the toilet and bath and room service.

Of course, one concern is the maintenance of the Sleepboxes, like who’s going to change the sheets after one occupant leaves to make way for the next one. But I think it’s still a pretty neat idea overall, and one that I’d love to see become successful.

[via dezeen via Dvice]

Don’t you ever wonder how come most children’s nursery rhymes end in some sort of tragedy? There was Jack who broke his crown, and Humpty Dumpty who fell apart because he had a great fall. Then there was the baby who was rocking-a-bye in the treetop, when the wind blows and drops both baby and cradle.

This little factoid has already been brought up more than once, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw these adult cradles.

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, because yes, that is a cradle, and yes, that’s an adult lying down inside it. Looks comfortable, doesn’t it?

The story as to how the design came about isn’t all whimsical and rhymes, however. It was actually one of the results from a study done about children who have rhythmic movement disorder (RMD). This chair here provides a comfortable environment that can calm anyone’s senses and give them some downtime and a much-needed break from work and life, in general.

As an added bonus, environmentalists will be happy to know that all of the materials that went into making this adult cradle was sourced in a way that’s friendly to Mother Earth, including the glue that was used to bind the layers of plywood.

The team of designers behind this cradle are Richard Clarkson, Grace Emmanual, Kalivia Russel, Eamon Moore, Brodie Cambell, Jeremy Brooker and Joya Boerrigter, collectively known as Synergy341.

If your new puppy has trouble sleeping through the night, you’ll now have the option of getting Sleepy Bunny, the toy that claims to soothe him back to sleep, no matter what time of the night it is. If you’ve had a puppy before, you know the drill. You’ll probably have a few sleepless nights while you pup gets acclimated to sleeping alone.

It’s battery-powered, and it will send your puppy back to dreamland because it acts like part of your puppy’s pack. It’s got a simulated heartbeat, which is what will make your puppy believe that it’s alive (not that much is needed to fool a puppy). It should keep your puppy resting in its crate while you’ll be able to sleep in your bed.

You can get the Sleepy Bunny from Firebox for £15.99 (~$26 USD) and hope that your dog doesn’t try humping it too much.

Well, maybe the guys who make this Pac-Man fleece blanket are a little off with their calendars, but if you happen to live in the Southern Hemisphere, you could be needing a warm-up soon, right?

This Pac-Man raschel fleece blanket from Backstage Pass measures about 50″ x 60″ and is made from polyester – which also happens to be what Pac-Man himself is made of. Trust me, I read it somewhere, I’m sure. Or maybe that was the ghosts who were made from the stuff. Or maybe I’ve just been eating too many power pills.

My wife is a big Twilight fan. Me, not so much. I think the flicks could have been much better with some explosions, hooters, and maybe a manly car chase that didn’t involve my grandma’s Volvo. Pure now has a new radio out called the Twilight that has nothing to do with blood sucking vampires or shedding werewolves. This thing is a clock radio with a big dome light on top.

The top of the radio is white glass and inside that dome is some lights that project colors into the room to make you feel sleepy and more at ease according to the company. The light changes from white, blue, green, purple, red, and orange.

In addition to the light that is supposed to help you wake and fall asleep, the thing can play FM radio for you and has an input for your MP3 player or iPhone. An optional iPhone dock is also offered as well. It even has built-in lullabies to get your baby to sleep, and nature sounds to help you catch some Zs.

While the colorful mood lights can help you relax, they can also be used as a “dawn simulation” to gently wake you from your slumber as alarm sounds play in the background.

No word on pricing yet, but you can find more info over at PURE’s website.

From the outside, this cardboard box sure doesn’t look like a very nice place to seek shelter. But one look inside, and you’ll see that the Five-Stars Cardboard Hotel is a luxurious resort, crafted from paper.

The design team of Keung Caputo created four foldable suites, each with a cardboard bed, pillow and intricate cardboard details, cut with lasers and backlit with LEDs. Of course, the biggest problem with the cardboard hotel is that while your upper body is protected from the elements (unless it rains), your legs stick out. Eh, whaddya want from a cardboard box?

Each of the four cardboard suites features a different theme, and a welcoming, warm environment for its guests. I think I’d stay in this neon purple room with a cut out of what looks like the Taco Bell chihuahua.

According to the artists “Once (a room is) chosen, the selected hotel suite will be set up on location. Within seconds, what looked like a stack of cardboard, turns into a habitation.”

The Five-Stars Cardboard Hotel was recently featured at New York’s Miyako Yoshinaga gallery, but has since moved on. If you’re lucky, you might find the suites at highway underpass near you.

The Leisure Eyes sleep masks are powered by two AA batteries (I don’t know if they’re included; Brando lists “2 AA batteries” as “features”) and come in green, pink, and blue. You can order a pair at Brando for only $16 (USD). You’d be a fool to expect anything but sub-par audio from such a cheap gadget, but at least it’s portable. And fluffy. And cheap.

Getting that 20-30 minute power-nap in during the day isn’t always easy. Depending on how long my day is or how hard I work, I try and take naps since I rarely get enough sleep at night. Forrest Jessee‘s Sleepsuit will enable you to take naps almost anywhere.

The connected rings of EVA foam that make up the Sleepsuit could fit in a briefcase or bag. The soft foam is coupled with strategically placed padding, making taking an impromptu nap easy as pie. This suit has been tested in the top four sleeping positions, that is: face up, face down, fetal position, and passed out at your desk.

The design of the Sleepsuit allows for a constant airflow, ensuring that you won’t be suffocating while snoozing. The Sleepsuit negates any time spent on preparing to take naps. That’s what Jessee found out while trying out polyphasic sleeping, replacing a full night’s sleep with four to six evenly spaced 30-45 minute naps.

You can get into it in under a minute the sleep almost anywhere. Sounds kind of interesting, though I’d stay away from polyphasic sleeping. On the other hand, power-naps are certainly a good thing when you work long hours – or when you’re just plain lazy.

We’ve already featured a pillow that can wake you up using light and an alarm clock that has a vibrate option. Here’s a quirky yet functional combination of the two: Vessel’s vibrating alarm clock pillow.

Just set the time on the pillow’s built-in clock and it will wake you – and only you – with a few buzzes. Simple right? It’s cool not only because it won’t wake up anyone else, the vibrating alarm means that deaf people can use it too. The pillow also has a conventional audible alarm option for people who don’t wake up easily. I’m not sure if it’s available outside of Japan though, but it’s for sale at Amazon Japan for ¥5000 ($55 USD).

Another Japanese manufacturer, France Bed, thinks that vibrating pillows can also help people to stop snoring. Their anti-snoring pillow has a built-in audio sensor with three levels of sensitivity that alerts the pillow to vibrate once the snoring starts.

And that’s not all: the anti-snoring pillow also has an audio jack, so if you hook up a recorder to the pillow you can record your snoring and verify that you need an anti-snoring pillow.

Japan Trend Shop is selling the anti-snoring pillow for $420 USD. If your snoring is really bad then maybe you could coax your loved ones to buy it for you, since they’ll benefit from it as well.

Each pillowcase is stitched from machine washable super-soft fleece, keeping you warm and cozy as you dream of Mario and Princess Peach walking off into the sunset.
