Created by Bitbanger Labs, Remee looks like a sleep mask with LED lights embedded in the side facing your eyes. Basically, six red lights will strobe, sweep and blink at customizeable intervals to stimulate your visual field, improving REM sleep and increasing the chances of lucid dreaming, so you can control your own dreams.

Remee is available in various designs, from plain ones to masks with patterns and colorful images. The project is raising funds on Kickstarter through May 18th. A pledge of $80(USD) or more will get you a standard Remee mask, while $100 will get you one of the interstellar prints shown above. The project has already reached its funding goal, so they’re definitely going to be produced.

Oh, how I wish I had one of these Dictionary Desk Pillows in my bookshelf. You see, this extremely thick volume doesn’t cram millions of definitions in it, but a huge, cushy and comfortable-looking pillow instead. When it’s snapped shut, you can simply place it on your book case and no one will be any wiser.

There’s only one problem though: unless you speak Chinese, then it might strike some people as odd that you’d have this huge dictionary in your shelf. The Dictionary Desk Pillows are available from the Japan Trend Shop for $80 (USD), making them some expensive pillows, too. I’m sure if you live in Japan, you can get one for quite a bit less.

The Napper lets you easily take short naps 15, 30 or 60 minutes in length. I actually nodded off in approval when I saw this product. Then I realized how easy it already is to set up an alarm on my phone. Then I looked at the Napper again and resumed nodding off once more.

Like most headbands, SleepPhones are made of lightweight and washable material and grip around your noggin’ firmly enough so that they won’t fall off without causing discomfort, even if you lie on your side. The robotic pillow was developed at the Kabe laboratory at Waseda University in Tokyo. It’s shaped like a bear and is supposed to stop snoring in heavy sleepers. The name translates to Mr. Deep-Sleep. It comes equipped with a microphone to detect snoring. There is also a sensor which monitors your heart rate and blood oxygen levels. Usually, when snoring starts, blood oxygen levels drop and your heart rate goes up. Once snoring is detected, the paws come into action, gently brushing the snorer’s head to stop them from sawing any more logs.

Jukusui-kun was exhibited at the 19th International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo earlier this month, but for now, plans for its commercialization have not been announced.

If only there were one of these Sleepboxes as our destination’s airport. We could have crashed for a few hours and prevented the first wave of panicking that began when we realized that we had no place to sleep in for the night. (And trying to go for a power nap in those uncomfortable airport seats wasn’t even an option.)

So what exactly is a Sleepbox? Well, these are personal, portable boxes that can be placed virtually anywhere people might need to get some emergency shuteye (like airports, convention centers, shopping centers, among others). They can be rented out from periods of half an hour to half a day, depending on the people in charge of them.

These were originally thought up in 2009 by Russia-based Arch Group. This year, they revamped the designs and updated the look of the Sleepboxes, with some of them having storage space for luggage, sockets for charging devices, reading lamps, electric blinds, Wi-Fi capabilities, a safety deposit box, and even a touchscreen TV. It’s like a hotel room, without the toilet and bath and room service.

Of course, one concern is the maintenance of the Sleepboxes, like who’s going to change the sheets after one occupant leaves to make way for the next one. But I think it’s still a pretty neat idea overall, and one that I’d love to see become successful.

This little factoid has already been brought up more than once, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw these adult cradles.

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, because yes, that is a cradle, and yes, that’s an adult lying down inside it. Looks comfortable, doesn’t it?

The story as to how the design came about isn’t all whimsical and rhymes, however. It was actually one of the results from a study done about children who have rhythmic movement disorder (RMD). This chair here provides a comfortable environment that can calm anyone’s senses and give them some downtime and a much-needed break from work and life, in general.

As an added bonus, environmentalists will be happy to know that all of the materials that went into making this adult cradle was sourced in a way that’s friendly to Mother Earth, including the glue that was used to bind the layers of plywood.

The design team of Keung Caputo created four foldable suites, each with a cardboard bed, pillow and intricate cardboard details, cut with lasers and backlit with LEDs. Of course, the biggest problem with the cardboard hotel is that while your upper body is protected from the elements (unless it rains), your legs stick out. Eh, whaddya want from a cardboard box?

Each of the four cardboard suites features a different theme, and a welcoming, warm environment for its guests. I think I’d stay in this neon purple room with a cut out of what looks like the Taco Bell chihuahua.

According to the artists “Once (a room is) chosen, the selected hotel suite will be set up on location. Within seconds, what looked like a stack of cardboard, turns into a habitation.”

The Five-Stars Cardboard Hotel was recently featured at New York’s Miyako Yoshinaga gallery, but has since moved on. If you’re lucky, you might find the suites at highway underpass near you.

You can order a pair at Brando for only $16 (USD). You’d be a fool to expect anything but sub-par audio from such a cheap gadget, but at least it’s portable. And fluffy. And cheap.

The connected rings of EVA foam that make up the Sleepsuit could fit in a briefcase or bag. The soft foam is coupled with strategically placed padding, making taking an impromptu nap easy as pie. This suit has been tested in the top four sleeping positions, that is: face up, face down, fetal position, and passed out at your desk.

The design of the Sleepsuit allows for a constant airflow, ensuring that you won’t be suffocating while snoozing. The Sleepsuit negates any time spent on preparing to take naps. That’s what Jessee found out while trying out polyphasic sleeping, replacing a full night’s sleep with four to six evenly spaced 30-45 minute naps.

You can get into it in under a minute the sleep almost anywhere. Sounds kind of interesting, though I’d stay away from polyphasic sleeping. On the other hand, power-naps are certainly a good thing when you work long hours – or when you’re just plain lazy.

Just set the time on the pillow’s built-in clock and it will wake you – and only you – with a few buzzes. Simple right? It’s cool not only because it won’t wake up anyone else, the vibrating alarm means that deaf people can use it too. The pillow also has a conventional audible alarm option for people who don’t wake up easily. I’m not sure if it’s available outside of Japan though, but it’s for sale at Amazon Japan for ¥5000 ($55 USD).

Another Japanese manufacturer, France Bed, thinks that vibrating pillows can also help people to stop snoring. Their anti-snoring pillow has a built-in audio sensor with three levels of sensitivity that alerts the pillow to vibrate once the snoring starts.

And that’s not all: the anti-snoring pillow also has an audio jack, so if you hook up a recorder to the pillow you can record your snoring and verify that you need an anti-snoring pillow.

Japan Trend Shop is selling the anti-snoring pillow for $420 USD. If your snoring is really bad then maybe you could coax your loved ones to buy it for you, since they’ll benefit from it as well.
