I think we can all agree that biggest problem with retro video game characters is all of those jagged edges. I mean really, you could cut your hands on those sharp pixel corners. So what’s the solution? How about smoothing them out and making them fuzzy?

At least that’s what crafter Jennifer Hayes of WoolyGeeks has been doing with her needle felted video game characters. Each of her little fuzzy felt creations is lovingly handcrafted from 100% wool fiber and is so cute that I think I might hurl. I mean look at those Pac-Man ghosts. And check out Q*Bert in all of his orange-y glory!

Who wouldn’t love a menagerie of these little guys on their desk or on top of their video game cabinet? And who here among us can ever forget Slime from the NES classic, Dragon Warrior?

I always wondered why Slime was so happy. If I were Slime, I’d want to take a shower and scrub all day until it was gone. And what collection of geek craft would be complete without some Super Mario Bros. 1-Up and Super Mushrooms? As good as they look, please do not attempt to eat them. I do not believe that your stomach will enjoy the process of digesting wool. And that goes for the cat too.

A Better Way to Slime Your Nintendo Ds

Square Enix just had a big day in Japan, with details on the new Dragon Quest X announcement for the Nintendo Wii, and more on the slightly-older (and still unreleased) Dragon Quest IX, which is slated for the DS. But I had eyes for only one thing: the most ridiculous (and awesome) Nintendo DS stand ever created.

The Dragon Quest Slime Speaker Stand is useful–it holds your DS and includes a speaker–but mostly, it’s just a giant slime, designed for the person who really loves them some Dragon Quest. Usefulness only goes so far when you’re talking about dropping ¥4725 (appx. $51 USD) on a cool accessory that makes your portable gaming system somewhat less portable.

The stand will be available from Hori, along with these clear cases designed for the new DSi.

Slime Meets Aromatherapy, Leaves Gooey Smelly Mess

Remember that goopy green gunk you used to play with when you were a kid? No not your nose goblins. It was called Slime, and it was the number one gross-out toy back in the day. Now, some crazy Japanese guys have decided it was time to bring back Slime, but this time in scents that “appeal to adult sensibilities”.

Yep, you read that right. Slime is all grown up and now available in such olefactory delights as “Elegance”, “Hot”, “Relax” and “Love”.

Now I have no idea how Slime could be elegant, and I really, really don’t want to know what Love Slime smells like. And Hot Slime might have been better named Hot Mess.
