Designed by Germany’s Team Tentakulus, these jewels feature the likenesses of Pac-Man, Tetris and Space Invaders crafted from exquisite Swarovski crystals.

These jewels were entries in designboom’s recent Swarovski crystal design competition, so there’s no word on when or where you’ll be able to get your hands on these sparkly creations, but that’s okay – you probably couldn’t afford them anyway.

It’s the perfect complement to any video game themed bathroom (you know you want one). It would look great alongside a Mario Kleenex box or with Pac-Man tile work or a Donkey Kong Junior shower for instance.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to buy one. From everything I can tell, the design comes from artist Jordi Alacont for a product line called Stickwalls. But there’s no information on where to buy, how much they cost or if this was just a custom one-off. Damned invaders!

With his Jump ‘n’ Run series, photographer Patrick Runte aims to bring the pixels out into the park… or the hedge maze, as it were. The series includes Tetris, Pong, and Space Invaders, though not quite as you might expect to see them. A few of the images are collected here, but there are even more at Runte’s site, from this and other projects.

Now we just need to convince someone to build games from these concepts. If LEGO-everything can work, so can this!

Well, friends, there is a World Tea Off, and the judges must be very cool, because they choose the ONE Teakettle by the guys at Vessel Ideation as one of the winners in tea vessel design. It’s a pot. It’s a kettle. It’s the coolest piece of porcelain you’ll see all day. That sounds like a winner to me.

In all, the set comes with 56 individual pieces, including 50 aliens, 4 defense bunkers, 1 UFO, and a laser cannon for wiping out the aliens. Lauren of LostMitten handstitched each one of these pixelated pieces, then attached a felt backing and a strong magnet to keep them up on your fridge.

For some stupid reason, the front of my stainless steel refrigerator won’t hold magnets, but I’d be willing to go back to a plain old white fridge if I could cover it with these.

You can find the complete set over on Etsy for $55 (USD). While that might sound pricey for fridge magnets, that’s less than $1 a magnet. Think about how much time it would take you to needlepoint and cut out 56 tiny magnets, and then get back to me. And if you really can’t handle that kind of spend, you can find smaller sets over on LostMitten’s shop for as little as $12 bucks.

Now you too can embellish your bedroom wall with a constant reminder of exactly how to increase speed, drop down and reverse direction – just in case you need to do that sort of thing for your job.

The guys at Blik Surface Graphics have now turned Neil Gregory’s hilarious A Simple Plan Threadless t-shirt into a set of vinyl wall graphics you can apply to any room. The complete set comes with 43 colorful wall decals, and instructions to build out your Invader army. When it’s all finished, the design measures in at approximately 60″ wide by 45″ tall, and looks great on any wall – although I think it looks best on a dark colored surface.

The set is available now over at Blik for $45 (USD).

Retro game maker/Futurama fan Shinobi is putting the finishing touches on a playable homage to the hysterical scene that features aliens from the planet Nintendoo 64, ready to bear down on Earth with all three of their different kinds of ships. The game is still a work-in-progress, but Shinobi has been kind enough to post a brief video clip of the game play.

Not one, not two, not three, but no less than four crafters are now making soapy versions of the  iconic retro gaming aliens.

Pictured above are tiny little 1″ green invaders from CrazyKBathandBody.  And if classic green isn’t your bag, you can grab them in bright and fragrant colors like galactic grape, orbit orange, cosmic cherry and blast-off blueberry.

Still, none of the over 450 available fragrances smell anything like a green space alien. If you’re looking for something a little more politically correct, you might want to check out these vegan invaders from DirtyAssSoaps (I would imagine after you use these, you should have a CleanAss, no?)

Makers of amazing video game controller soaps, Digitalsoaps has even jumped on the Invaders soap bandwagon with these colorful jeweltone aliens.

Last but not least are BunnyBubble’s invaders, who come entombed inside of a clear soap bar, and feature a delightful grapefruit scent. I wonder if the invaders inside the bar survive as the clear part melts away, or if they die a slimy mushy death as you work your way through the soap.

Of course, with thousands of new listings each day over on Etsy, you should probably just run a search, and you’ll turn up new Space Invaders on your soap mission. Next up, Tetris.

One player gets the bottom of the screen, and while the second is in a mirrored position at the top… so watch out for those shots that slip through the ranks of alien ships.

I can hear it now: But wait! Hasn’t this been done before? Indeed, but Midway’s Space Invaders II is hardly a favorite among the long-running franchise’s games, so it’s nice to have an alternative. Everyone is an Invader is a simple, no-frills approach to two-player invading, and that makes it a worthwhile experience. Why not try it for yourself? This Space Invaders piggy bank looks just like a miniature cocktail table version of the classic arcade shooter. The 1/6th scale game has a tiny little version of the game on a built-in LCD screen. Just drop a 100 yen coin (between the size of a nickel and a quarter) into the slotto kick off the fun.

Each coin you drop into the slot adds another alien to the display – all the way up to 80 invaders. It also plays the familiar sounds of the retro classic. My Japanese isn’t very good, but from what I can tell from this press release, you might actually be able to play the game on the tiny LCD screen (please, oh please say it’s true!)

Scheduled for release later this month at a price of ¥5775 /$59 USD, the bank holds just enough to cover its own cost with a little bit to spare. No word on where you might be able to find these stateside, but if you’re willing to read a little Japanese, you can find more info over on the TakaraTomy website.

Featuring such greats as David Hasselhoff, Christopher Plummer and Marjoe Gortner, this 1979 low-budget schlock ripoff on Star Wars’ popularity was originally titled Starcrash, but later got renamed to Female Space Invaders, presumably because video games were starting to take off, or LucasFilm sued them. Either way, all I know is that the movie features boobs, lightsabers, horribly bad acting, terrible special effects, and nary a Space Invader among the bunch. Where do I sign up?

Here’s a quick synopsis from the seller of this obscure DVD: “Former model and Bond girl Caroline Monroe plays Stella Star, an intergalactic smuggler. Along with her partner Akton, she’s on the run from cosmic cops Thor and L (a robotic cowboy with a Texan accent) when they come across the sole survivor of a space battle instigated by the villainous Zarth Arn. Captured by their pursuers, but with the knowledge of Zarth Arn’s dastardly deed, they are brought before the Emperor of the Galaxy (Christopher Plummer), who asks of the four a special task: to find Zarth Arn and destroy him before he can use his super weapon to conquer the galaxy!”

But enough of my yakking. This preview clip from the movie pretty much sums it all up:

Ok, now if only they changed that opening title from “You are about to be HURLED” to “You are about to HURL”, it might be more accurate. I suppose if you’re looking to do your own little MST3K party and want a REALLY bad flick to throw out non-sequitirs at, this could be the one. You can find a copy of it over on eBay for the low, low starting bid of $4.99.

In that sense, those Signs aliens are as stupid as the Space Invaders aliens, who after 31 years still seem to think that swaying will lead them to victory. Neil Gregory came up with a shirt design celebrating the aliens’ stupidity, because if not for that we’d have been enslaved and won’t have time to design shirts.

So those are alien blackboards. I’m not impressed. Shirt’s nice though, and if you think so too head on to threadless and get the shirt. It’s $18 USD and both the men and women’s version come in 5 sizes.

I think you’ll definitely get more entertainment watching that review than from playing the games themselves. If you really feel like throwing away your money on one of these, you can find ‘em over at Amazon UK for about £8.44 for the pair (appx. $12.50 USD). Me, I’d rather play with the sharp edges of the plastic clamshell packaging they ship in.

Space Invaders Volkswagen spotted over on Flickr – I’m surprised they don’t drive a Saturn or a Mercury.

I was hunting around looking for something entirely different when I spotted these limited-edition Invaders’ watches over at Japan’s ebten for ¥18,690 (appx. $207 USD).

The watch features an red dot-matrix display of the current time. With a press of the button, “Space Invaders” scrolls across the display, then a giant animated invader dances across the screen. And when it’s done, it’s “Game Over”, man. And before you start asking, the answer is “No,” you can’t actually play the game, so your score is permanently set to 240 points.

Only 500 of these extremely hard-to-find watches were ever made, so you better head on over to ebten with your Yen and your Japanese to English dictionary in hand if you want one before they all vanish.

Created by Yoshio Ishii for Japan’s NekoGames, Physics Invader is a Flash based game applies physics, including gravity and mass to the demise of the 8-bit aliens. As your laser cannon pierces each invader, its tiny little pixelated body falls to the ground, and their little carcasses pile up at the bottom of the screen. But why write up wordy descriptions of the game when you can play it for yourself?…

Sir Isaac Newton would be so proud.

If Tetris is not your retro look — or game — of choice, the aptly-named Etsy shop VinylWallDesign has a few other interesting choices for you: Pac-Man and Space Invaders. We’re talking about the classics here.

The shop features several simpler designs that aren’t influenced by classic games, just in case you prefer penguins to cunningly fitting falling blocks together for hours. Prices for the sets range from $20 to $65.

If you too have a soft spot in your heart for the Invaders, these 8-bit pop art prints are the perfect addition to your pad. Artist Bret Kane from Mr. Kanes Atomic Design Lab has just released this of pop-art serigraphs (screen prints) of the classic gaming aliens.

The Invaders series of prints comes in bright candy colors or classic arcade green. Each limited-edition print is screened onto gallery-quality archival rag paper and measures in at a sizeable 18″x24″. They’re available over at Mr. Kanes in sets of 3 for $150.
