Crocheted Spock Holders, Burns Are Illogical

Pot holders are used to protect your counters and tables from burn marks when setting a hot pot of food down, plus they help you grab hot stuff in the oven. But they are always plain and boring. Why not geek things up with a crocheted Spock holder?

Burn marks on your stuff are highly illogical and besides, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, live long and prosper, etc. By the time this pot holder has been in service for say, five years, it will start to look like Spock from the end of Wrath of Khan. All battered and food stained, but not dying in engineering.

It was made by Flickr user Kailand and would be a great addition to any kitchen. If only she had created enough for all of us.

Crocheted Spock Ears: Knit Long and Prosper

You have to be a hardcore Trekker/Trekkie to wear these Crocheted Spock Ears. They are highly logical, highly warm and pointy. These would also pass for elf ears, so you get a two for one.

I don’t know about where you live, but here it has been like spring all winter so far, but don’t let a warm winter stop you from geeking out in these fuzzy Vulcan ears. You can make them yourself easily in just 30 minutes using the pattern on the website.

All of the directions you need are provided for you. It’s up to you to get the matching uniform, haircut and serious Vulcan scowl. Oh, and don’t forget the ever important arching of the eyebrows.

Geeky Characters Look Great in Paper Collage

deviantART member Botjira makes amazing collages of video game, TV show, anime and other geeky characters. Even though the individual pieces that are patched together to make each work are not that small, they’re still quite detailed. The different textures and materials also add a layer of depth to Botjira’s creations. Note the shiny foil used to make Link’s sword for example.

Botjira’s pieces are all made using recycled materials, such as magazines and recycled paper. Botjira also sends any leftover paper scraps to be recycled. It takes Botjira anywhere from five minutes to a few hours to make each piece. If you’d like to get an idea of how the collages are made, Botjira posted a step-by-step of the making of the Chell piece here.

Here’s another very geeky flash drive that is kind of awesome in its own way. It’s too bad that it only has 2GB, but then again, you’re not paying for the size, you’re paying for a USB flash drive in the form of the traditional Vulcan greeting. Plus, it will help your data live long and prosper.

Some of these sort of novelty flash drives are cool enough to have around, while others are definitely part of the crapgadget category. Many people who don’t know anything about Star Trek will wonder about this flash drive when they see it. Heck, even for Trekkies, the hand looks kind of creepy.

Geeky Growth Chart: Taller Than Yoda, You Are

A loving father made this growth chart for his daughter’s 7th birthday using Sci-Fi characters (plus Frodo) as markers, starting with tribbles and ending with Darth Vader. Should’ve thrown in a Gundam there dad. You never know!

Boy, this must be a record – two posts about oven mitts on Technabob in a single day. I know that it seems weird for a techy geek blog, but this one was just too good to pass up.

The guys at Meninos have created the Salute Oven Mitt, which, as you can see is perfect for Trekkies everywhere. Spock would be so proud to see you wearing these the next time you synthesize a batch of cookies in your replicator. Though I’m not sure having your fingers splayed out like that while you’re pulling a pan out of the oven. Spock Monkey: Half-Vulcan, Half-Sock, Half-Monkey

That’s right: each Spock Monkey is a combination of three halves, resulting in one logical, emotionally detached yet huggable primate. I used Vulcan math to calculate Spock Monkey’s constitution.

Each Spock Monkey is lovingly handmade, so each of them is unique. Some are uglier than the others. There’s also a Captain Kirk Sock Monkey. No monkey McCoy though.

Each Spock Monkey (or Capt. Kirk Sock Monkey) sells for $46 (USD) at Cottage Linen. Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock: Game of the Year on a Shirt

I’ve always wondered how Paper beats Rock. So what if it covers Rock? That’s not the same as being cut or crushed. Cafepress ups the confusion but in the process has created the Game of the Year, nay, the game of the 23rd century.

Paper disproves Spock. Disproves. Why the hell is Paper so powerful? Notice also that Spock can only vaporize Rock. My nose is bleeding. This game is awesome.

The close-up up top is taken from the shirt above, which is a women’s plus size shirt that sells for $30 (USD) at Cafepress’ site. The diagram is featured in a variety of shirt types and sizes; I’m pretty sure there’s something for everyone there. I want giant posters of this in all grade schools. I want giant posters of this period.
