We all know that if you wore a red shirt on Star Trek (the original series) that your days (or minutes) were likely numbered. Maybe it’s just that working for the Security or Engineering departments on a Federation starship is more dangerous than most other jobs. But even if you’re worried about the redshirt being evaporated shortly after you put it on your couch, you’ll probably want these Star Trek uniform pillows.

They might not be Federation approved, but if I were Captain, I’d have these in my chambers regardless of any Pillow Directives. These handmade pillows come in three styles: gold (for command), blue (for science), and red (for engineering). The guys over at Yellow Bug Boutique, who make these, claim that there is also a missing red security pillow which “was vaporized in scene 2.”

Each one measures 14″ x 14″ and is made from fleece and felt. Trekkies can head over to Etsy and beam down a set of three pillows for $100 (USD). Individual pillows will set you back $35 each, plus shipping. I wonder what shipping rates will be like once they perfect transporter technology.

Pot holders are used to protect your counters and tables from burn marks when setting a hot pot of food down, plus they help you grab hot stuff in the oven. But they are always plain and boring. Why not geek things up with a crocheted Spock holder?

Burn marks on your stuff are highly illogical and besides, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, live long and prosper, etc. By the time this pot holder has been in service for say, five years, it will start to look like Spock from the end of Wrath of Khan. All battered and food stained, but not dying in engineering.

It was made by Flickr user Kailand and would be a great addition to any kitchen. If only she had created enough for all of us.

Trekkies, have I got something for you. If you’re thinking about redecorating your living room in a Star Trek motif, you’re going to want to seriously think about incorporating this bit of furniture into your game plan.

This bit of geeky awesomeness is the Starship Enterprise coffee table. It’s a one-of-a-kind handcrafted hardwood model of old NCC-1701-C, carefully placed under glass to protect it from phaser attacks (and spills.) It was made by wood artist Barry Shields, who couldn’t have a more appropriate name, unless it was Joe Nacelles, Steve Photon Torpedo, or Harry Warp Core.

Barry says it took him over a month to build it just the way he wanted, and it shows. I love how he even made the glass on top match the lines of the Enterprise. The base lifts the ship off the ground, making it look as if it’s hovering above the thick-pile planetary surface (rug) below.

It’s made from cherry, ash and poplar wood, along with steel supports and the aforementioned glass top. Barry doesn’t list the exact dimensions of the Enterprise itself, but the glass is 34″ x 54″, and the table is about 17″ tall, so it’d definitely a full-size coffee table. If you want it, beam yourself on over to Etsy, and get your credit card out – since it’s going to cost you a cool $3,100 (USD) if you want this in your home. Frankly, I think that’s a small price to pay to own the coolest coffee table in the neighborhood.

Who could forget the Miranda-class cruisers that first showed up in one of the best original Trek movies, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The most famous is the Reliant, stolen, captained by Khan Noonien Singh, and eventually trashed by the Enterprise’s phasers and Genesis. Now, behold the ship – restored to pristine condition – in all it’s LEGO glory.

This is not the work of a starbase of a Federation shipyard. It comes from Christer Nyberg, who used somewhere between ten to fifteen thousand LEGO pieces to build it. The ship also sports several lights, so that it can look cool at night.

This is an amazing LEGO reproduction of the classic ship. Just look at that detail. It makes me want to see an entirely LEGO version of Star Trek II. The space battles would look awesome as phasers hit and bricks fly everywhere. Somebody make it so!

Going to the doctor sucks, I think many would agree. I won’t go unless something is hanging loosely by tendon and sinew or I take another arrow to the knee. Checkup is another word for hypochondria to me. I don’t want the doctor poking me with a needle and I always fear the day a prostate exam may be recommended. It’s better to avoid the doctor, IMHO.

If doctors at the offices around town had tricorders like Spock and the rest of the Enterprise crew, I might go. That is assuming it’s capable of diagnosing any issues in the intestinal tract without some sort of nasty invasive procedure. Then they could just do that scan thing and not have to poke or prod. Qualcomm wants some tricorder action too and it has teamed up with the X Prize people to offer a cool $10 million to the smart folks that can invent one. It’s going to be tough to do though. Here’s a description of the criteria for the tricorder:

“As envisioned for this competition, the device will be a tool capable of capturing key health metrics and diagnosing a set of 15 diseases. Metrics for health could include such elements as blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature. Ultimately, this tool will collect large volumes of data from ongoing measurement of health states through a combination of wireless sensors, imaging technologies, and portable, non-invasive laboratory replacements.”

Apparently, the way to make something like this work with today’s tech is by measuring metabolites. The catch is that the hardware needed to measure metabolites is inside a chunk of lab equipment about as large as a Mini Cooper. It looks like I’ll be avoiding the doctor for a few more years to come.

A dude going by the name Legoloverman has crafted these sweet LEGO Star Trek TNG spaceships that show one of the coolest battles that the Enterprise had with the Borg. The Borg Cube and the Enterprise were both made entirely out of LEGO bricks.

The Borg Cube is particularly interesting with its square shape and appears to be made from a bunch of LEGO Technic parts. The builder doesn’t offer much in the way of details on the creation, and only offers up one picture, but it still looks really cool, especially because both ships appear to only use a handful of parts.

I wish he had given some sort of idea how the constructed the Borg Cube so we could try and replicate it. The photo doesn’t show a lot of detail on the components either; but apparently he used a bunch of Minifig Sextants – assimilated, of course, from other LEGO sets.

Redditor adriannezy wanted to “participate in Halloween at the absolute minimum level” at her workplace, so she went as a QR code. Well, not exactly. She went as a clever geek, who found a way to be seen wearing a costume without actually wearing one in real life. Confused? Get a QR code scanner – there are several free apps that can do this – and use it to read the code on her shirt:

I used the RedLaser app to scan it. If everything went right, your scanner should direct you to this link, which contains this picture:

At first I thought the QR code would make a costume pop up over her shirt. Guess I was hoping it would be an augmented reality target instead, so I am a little disappointed. Still, it’s certainly a nerdy, if roundabout way of costuming.

Space, the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five year mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new teeth, to boldly go where no spoon has gone before. Nope, that’s not right. But it is exactly what you’ll get if you buy this Star Trek feeding system for your tot.

This whimsical set come with a Trek-themed bib, and you’ll be feeding your baby with a spoon that looks just like the original Enterprise. Both the apron and spoon’s warp nacelles feature blinking LEDs, to occupy your babe’s mind with dreams of intergalactic exploration, while transporting some pureed peas and carrots to his or her diaper.

Now, I don’t quite get the point of calling a spoon and a bib a “feeding system,” but it does make it sound more technologically-advanced. And while I don’t recall the original Enterprise having a spoon-docking bay in front, it’s actually not a bad idea in case the crew gets hungry exploring space.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

So if you’ve got a little one in the house, warp on over to ThinkGeek and beam it to your house for $24.99 (USD).

On this day 45 years ago, television boldly went where no TV show has gone before. It was on September 8, 1966 that the world got it’s first glimpse of Star Trek and the world would never be the same. What better way to celebrate then with some Star Trek cookies in the shape of the crew.

These cookies are adorable. Too neat to eat. They come from Darla at Bakingdom. If you want to try your hand at baking these yourself, she also shows you how to do it, along with pictures of the baking process.

Dip them in some milk and bite their heads off as if you are Q toying with mere morsels. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Speaking of resistance, it’s futile when it’s comes to these cute cookies. They look a bit like South Park characters.

This Star Trek The Next Generation Case Mod is all kinds of awesome. It was made by techpowerup forum member Onizuka who is clearly very talented and loves him some Star Trek.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info about what’s inside, but we do know that it has a Core i7 1366 processor and that the frame is hand made, welded, powder coated and completely built from scratch. It took 4 months of work to finish. That’s probably faster than Starfleet can build one. Then again, Starfleet has to do a lot more then slap a computer inside.

Apparently he made it back in 2007, according to the image, but it just showed up in the forum. All of the detail work is pretty amazing. I would love to see what he could do with a Klingon Bird of Prey or a Romulan ship. Sure, I would have made the nacelles on the bottom more angular myself, but who am I to judge? This mod is awesome. Great work Onizuka.

One of the things that I always regretted not seeing on the trips I made to CES over the years was Star Trek: The Experience and the Star Trek bar at the Las Vegas Hilton. That bar is now closed down so I have missed my chance. The people that visit Aqaba, Jordan will have a much better Star Trek experience than a bar and a single cheesy attraction to enjoy.

King Abdullah II of Jordan is apparently a big Star Trek fan. He even had a non-speaking role in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager back in his teen years. The king and other investors are sinking big money into a theme park that is officially licensed by CBS with a Star Trek theme.

The king is putting $1.5 billion into the project called the Red Sea Astrarium. The Star Trek theme park will be one part of the complex that covers 184 acres. The massive resort will also have a high-end hotel and dining as well as other facilities were students and businesses can learn about alternative energy and more.

I’m not a trekkie, so pardon me if there is indeed evidence to the contrary, but I don’t think acquiring and managing properties is within the duties of a starship captain. But now you can help the best captains from five different eras conquer the board game frontier with Monopoly: Star Trek Continuum Edition.

As you’d expect, most of the elements of the game have been given a trekkie twist, from the houses and hotels, which have been renamed “ships” and “fleets”, to the player tokens. Instead of the usual thimble and bag of coins, they’ve been replaced with a Vulcan harp, phaser, communicator, Klingon blood wine goblet, shuttlecraft and of course the captain’s chair. In case you were wondering why the starships are not tokens, that’s because they fill in for railroads instead.

You can order the Star Trek Monopoly Continuum Edition either from ThinkGeek for $40 (USD), or Amazon for about $26.

As you can see the set comes with two Enterprise bottle openers and a Bird-of-Prey korkscrew – that’s Klingon for corkscrew btw. Probably not, but it should be.

Boldly go to the dinner table armed with the Star Trek Enterprise and shuttle shakers. Watch as your housemates and relatives try their hardest to resist making spaceship sounds when someone asks them to pass the salt (or pepper).

The shakers are made of glazed ceramic. The Enterprise measures about 2″, while the shuttle is 1 3/8″.

The starship and the shuttle also have magnet inserts, so you can dock them together when they’re not in use. Although if you have Trekkies or kids in your house I doubt that they’ll ever be unused.

Prepare $13 (USD) and warp to ThinkGeek to order the Star Trek Enterprise and Shuttle salt and pepper shakers. Tiny crew not included.

deviantART member Botjira makes amazing collages of video game, TV show, anime and other geeky characters. Even though the individual pieces that are patched together to make each work are not that small, they’re still quite detailed. The different textures and materials also add a layer of depth to Botjira’s creations. Note the shiny foil used to make Link’s sword for example.

Botjira’s pieces are all made using recycled materials, such as magazines and recycled paper. Botjira also sends any leftover paper scraps to be recycled. It takes Botjira anywhere from five minutes to a few hours to make each piece. If you’d like to get an idea of how the collages are made, Botjira posted a step-by-step of the making of the Chell piece here.
