StarCraft: Supply Depot 2: Raising the Bar to a New Low in Mobile Gaming

Blizzard have dialed back on their April Fools shenanigans. This year they’ve literally scaled down their pranks. The company is promoting a mobile game set in the StarCraft universe, where we’ll get to control one of the most important figures in Terran history: the supply depot.

I must say, Blizzard really gets the idiosyncracies of mobile gaming. Supply Depot has simple controls and is perfect for a 5-minute or even 5-second burst of gaming.

You can play the first mission of StarCraft: Supply Depot 2 on Blizzard’s website right now. Get on it, it might not be there tomorrow.

The game’s a bit too gory for kids though; if you have children I suggest you check out the company’s new Blizzard Kidzz educational games.

Blizzard Games NES Cartridges: Alternate Reality Cart Art

Looking for a holiday gift for a Blizzard fan? A Diablo III pre-order would do. But what if they already have that? Then pre-order Heart of the Swarm for them. If they have that as well, that’s where you start running out of options. And that’s where 72pins and their Blizzard series of NES cartridges come in.

In case you’re not familiar with 72pins, the group sells functional NES cartridges, but instead of the original cover the cartridges have NES-style cover art featuring modern video games, such as the Blizzard games you see here – StarCraft, Diablo and of course the all-conquering World of Warcraft.

Enter the Konami Code and spawn at 72pins’ store to order the Blizzard Series three-pack for $42(USD). You can also order the NES cartridges separately for $16 each, except for the StarCraft cartridge because it’s already sold out. Again, each cartridge contains a random working NES game inside, so if your recipient still has a working NES you’re basically giving them a 6-in-3 set.

Best Starcraft Ghost Costume Ever

Worn by a serious StarCraft Ghost fan at this year’s BlizzCon, this incredible costume would look great, even if there weren’t a smokin’ hot girl wearing it – but that certainly doesn’t hurt.

The costume features illuminated armor made from football pads, along with an accompanying bad-ass prop gun, crafted from what looks like a highly-modified NERF weapon.

And while it doesn’t look exactly like the costume from the never-released game, I think I know who’s going to win their office costume contest anyhow.

With the release of the first installment StarCraft II, the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg armies will wage war once again – not that they’ve stopped waging wars since the first game – controlled by virtual commanders-in-chief – the fast-clicking, resource managing and trash talking gamer.

Although sometimes the trash talking can get out of hand. There’s more juvenile humor than vespene in the clip below, so if that’s not your thing, don’t watch the clip.

Zerg Cake is Disgustingly Accurate [Starcraft Bakery]

Gearfuse spotted this mind-blowingly detailed cake, featuring a budding Zerg base from the money printing military sci-fi RTS Starcraft. Everything you can expect from a Zerg base a minute into the game is there – mineral nodes,a gas geyser, a hatchery, drones, and a couple of larvae, all on top of a crunchy creep-like (we hope) crust. Yummy.

Blizzard should hire the person who made this as their official baker. Or at least give the person a pat on the back. Check out the hi-res pic here to have your mind re-blown.
