The Goliathon is a heavily modified Nerf Vulcan Blaster. To the professor’s credit it does look like it a weapon from another time, or at the very least something that can be used as a bludgeon. It has various metal embellishments, including copper piping, 4 gauges, a valve wheel and other brass trinkets.

I love how the guns’ barrel acts as its battery compartment. I don’t love the laser. It’s BRIGHT. Seriously you might want to wear goggles just for the video. You definitely should wear goggles when firing this pistol because it has a 1.5W blue laser, enough to instantly blind eyes and burn skin.

Priebe said he sold the unit shown in the video for €600 (~$790 USD), but he can also make a “slightly simpler version” for less. I wonder what he’ll make for $5. A drawing of the gun perhaps? If you have more money than I do, just drop him a line on YouTube or Facebook. Also give me some of your riches.

The tower’s front panel and the monitor’s frame are both made of walnut lumber. The menacing red orb in front of the 4M isn’t an eye, although it really is a window to its soul. The brass window has a magnifying lens that lets you see the CPU cooler inside. I’m not sure if the joystick controls the lens or if it’s at all functional. Maybe it opens a pod bay door somewhere.

Handcrafted with care by John William Dunn of Victorian Steam Austin, the iCog Hades is basically a wooden iPad stand with a matching keyboard. Use the two together, and you can transform your close-to-brand-new device into a vintage, steampunk laptop. You can also detach the top lid from the keyboard to use it as a standalone bumper case for your iPad, if you prefer. The keyboard has custom brass covers and hooks up to your device via Bluetooth.

At the core of the build is an old pump organ, with an iMac integrated into the top, and surrounded by an antiqued frame. The keyboard is placed neatly in the center alongside some brass vent registers which look perfectly at home on either side.

The analog voltage gauges have even been rigged up to display pertinent stats from the computer as well, though I’m not sure if that old phone or camera above the screen actually are functional or not. Though he does mention something about being able to use the phone as a gaming headset, and I’m betting that camera is a webcam.

The images you see here are of David’s own Difference Engine, but for $3,000(USD) he’s willing to build you one of your own – assuming you provide the PC or Mac, and are willing to come to Gloucester, Virginia to pick it up. It’s not exactly the kind of thing you can easily send through the mail, right?

This amazing piece of junk art is the work of deviantART member batman-n-bananas. Just like the maker of the steampunk NERF rifle, batman-n-bananas went with the trusted “attach pretty much anything you can find” method in making the gun.

Some of the items that have been re-purposed include parts from an antique clock, hangers, plumbing parts, a plant pot, various lids, plastic tub, a pocket laser disc, lightbulbs, “metal covering from an old hairbrush” and gallons and gallons of glue.

While you can’t actually buy the exact one he wore (I’m sure that anything that Bieber touches instantly is worth ungodly amounts of cash), you can own one made by the same artist – based on the same design worn by the teen pop idol.

This cool neo-Victorian glove is handmade by artist Ian Finch-Field of SkinzNhydez, who specializes in leather steampunk goods. It’s made from leather, brass, rivets, studs, an old pocket watch, and even has a working LEDs built into it.  Each glove is made to order and appears to have had some design refinements since Bieber wore his. For some reason, it makes me think of a steampunk Iron Man – if he were played by Justin Bieber instead of Robert Downey, Jr.

If you just have to do everything Bieber does, or just think it looks cool despite Justin wearing it, you can buy one of just ten of these being made over on Etsy – for $1,700 CAD (~$1,765 USD). While that might seem a bit expensive, at least your purchase will go to a good cause, with 20% of of each one sold going to the Greater Victoria Animal Crusaders.

The brass paint, gauges and pipes are great touches, but otherwise I think this project still needs some work. There’s still too much of the original rifle peeking out. But that’s just me, and anyway I’m sure vanbangerburger can still tweak or build on his design if he wanted to. Like maybe make it shoot steam. Or punks. Or steamy punks.

These ornate “Steampunk” heels are adorned with lace and embellished with rhinestones on all sides. The edge of the shoes are also lined with smoked glass beads and vintage charms, which give the shoes a gothic vibe, in my opinion.

The coolest thing about these heels (and the reason they’re here on Technabob in the first place) are the LED lights. I mean, they aren’t the first pair of footwear that light up, but they’re the first heels I’ve seen that do in a long, long time.

They’re also pretty much the only ones I know that come with a remote so you can set the color of the LED lights and decide how fast you want them to fade or light up. I can just see someone wearing these heels now while getting down on the dance floor…

Anyway, they’re being made and sold by The Ratchet and Cog on Etsy for $180(USD) a pair. Any takers?

The iPhonograph takes things back to a simpler, more civilized age, giving you the old mixed with the new. Michael Greensmith’s creation includes a handmade wooden base, along with brass components to give it just the right look.

If you like your gadgets to look all old-timey and retro, you can build an iPhonograph yourself. Instructables will show you the steps to make your own. You’ll need to go hunting for supplies like an old Cutlery box, a brass horn and a Mini Stereo Amp to name a few, but the end result should be worth all of your hard work.

Designer John “Wilhelm” Dunn of the Victorian Steam Calculation Engine Company originally created this steampunk mod on commission for Sony, but is now selling the same thing as a mod for your own laptop. The primary components of the eCog Mercury include beautifully-finished birch plywood trim, retro key caps, and a grid of copper and steel “pipes” (actually wires and drawer pulls) and (non-functional) gauges which protrude from the back of the laptop’s display, which John refers to as his “boilerplate” design (also available as an iPad 2 or Nook Color case.)

The keyboard keys are encircled by solid brass bezels, and have translucent off-white keycaps which allow the keyboard’s backlighting to show through in the dark. The larger keys also have birch ply veneers, and the trackpad is surrounded by red fabric wrist rests.

If you want one of these, you’ll first need to go pick up a Sony VAIO F series laptop of your own. That’ll set you back between $1000 and $2500 (USD). Then, you’ll need the eCog mod, which costs another $1250. So this clearly isn’t a project for cheapskates. On the other hand, the end result is pretty spectacular, and I’m pretty sure even your pals with the sleekest new MacBooks will be jealous of your laptop when it’s done.

John is quick to point out that the design could be customized to your liking if you’d like to commission him to make additions or modifications to the design. Down the road, he even plans on building a steampunk goggle mod for the 3D glasses which work with the top-of-the-line VAIO Fs and other Sony 3D displays. Sculpted in English pewter and brass, this timepiece not only looks good on the outside, it’s also impressive on the inside, with “solar powered, brass turbine blades rotating or hand cranked to generate transformed power”.  It also has a quartz movement and a magnetic fastening hatch, and displays the “Temporal Decay Index” on its “Galvanic Scale.”  Or maybe it just tells time.

I wouldn’t mind the next doctor wearing this at all, as long as he doesn’t say “Fob watches are cool.” It is $149(USD) over at Design Toscano.

This beautiful overkill of an enclosure was created by Etsy seller Will Rockwell. It features a drivewheel and shaft, a service light, and even generates smoke as it works.

If you need extra RAM, simply pull the brass SURGE lever for a burst of overdrive, as a dense puff of smoke belches from the brass stack.

That sentence alone makes me want to buy it. It’s covered with walnut veneer and brass edging, with controls everywhere. The blinking service light rises like a periscope, as the drive wheel turns. Just insert your hard drive into the hinged door on the rear where you will find power and connection cables. It will hold any size drive up to a LaCie Big Drive. At least you get plenty of Steampunk for your $1,200(USD) purchase.

Will Rockwell’s Digital Stereoscope uses the same optical principals of old 19th century stereoscopes, but uses a pair of bright digital displays in place of photographic placards. The wood and brass box comes preloaded with a library of 100 Victorian era stereoscopic images, and Will says that the image quality will transport you back to that simpler time.

The device only comes with still images, and Will says you can upload your own pictures too. However, I can’t see a reason why you couldn’t figure out a way to play 3D video on it if you wanted to, since the underlying technology should be able to handle it. It’s just a matter of splitting video images into left- and right-eye versions.

If you’re interested in The Digital Stereoscope, this unique device is available over on Etsy for $1200 (USD) – about the same price as a modern 3D HDTV.

The controller is also equipped with custom sticks and face buttons, but the real star here is the lock and key mechanism installed in place of the Xbox 360 button. You actually have to insert the skeleton key and turn it to power on the controller and access the Xbox 360 menu. So if you lose the key, tough luck. Quite impractical, but you can’t argue with the concept. Actually you can. A steam-powered button would’ve been more consistent.

But the biggest drawback of this controller isn’t the lack of any steam-related function or decoration. It’s the price: a smoking $999.99 (USD) for just this one controller. Wow. If you think it’s worth it, you better head to eBay and cop it now because MorbidStix only has one unit for sale, and they say that they won’t be able to make another one due to a lack of parts. If you don’t think this design is awesome, MorbidStix has more custom controllers on their website (for a lot less money), including ones for the PS3 and Wii. Also you’re wrong.

This set of dice was designed by shapeways user gythawen and Masterworks, and comes in a set of numerous differently sided-dice perfect for a good old game of Dungeons & Dragons, or any other board or card game that uses dice. Personally, I’d use them as Monopoly pieces, instead of the shoe and the hat but that’s just me. The intricately-detailed dice are produced using 3D printing technology, and as seen in the image above can even be produced in bronze, stainless steel, or glossy silver.

Dice range in size from 16mm to 24mm, and a complete set will run you about $25 (USD) when produced from resin (which may be too light for rolling,) about $80 in bronze or stainless, and close to $200 in silver. Of course the antique bronze seems the most fitting with the steampunk theme, but they’re cool no matter what material you decide to make them in. In addition to the steampunk set, Masterworks also offers this cool Harry Potter-inspired set they call the “Deathly Hallows”, which is equally as awesome:

Originally modeled and designed on a computer, each die is 3D printed and then meticulously hand painted to create that worn out, aged, steamy, punky, steampunk look. It’s available in iron and bronze finish and uses cogs instead of pips. Because it would be hard to represent numbers with steam. What would 6 steams even look like? That’d just be 6 water molecules.

This wood and metal gun got its start as a NERF N-Strike Barricade gun, but thanks to the mad model-making artistry of faustus70, it’s been converted into the ultimate retro weapon. Faustus built the exterior of this gun from planks cut from an antique wooden chair, and then wrapped it with hand-cut aluminum he riveted into place.

Of course, the best part is that it still can actually fire NERF darts. The magazine holds 10 whistler darts, and it uses 3 AA batteries to help fire them. It also has a scope that offers 3x magnification to help you take aim on your victims.
