Super Mario Street Fighters: Strange Combo Move

I’ve actually never thought of combining the characters from Super Mario Bros. with the ones from Street Fighter, but for some strange reason, they do seem appealing. The only thing that’s missing is that either they could be made out of large pixels or strangely muscular cartoon drawings that are animated in low fps.

These illustrations are the work of artist Michael Musco. He loves his old school video games, especially Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. The combinations are quite bizarre to be honest, but they do look good.

The result is pretty awesome and will most likely make you want to play some old school games. Thankfully, you won’t have to go far because you can play Street Fighter on or SFII on your phone these days.

I know, TRON stuff is so late 2010. But when I saw these awesome Street Fighter x TRON illustrations by Melbourne, Australia graphic artist BossLogic, I had still had to put them up.

I think the glowing Chun-Li is my personal favorite, but Evil Ryu is pretty great in light-up purple. But you be the judge. Check out the gallery below, and let us know which one you think is the best:

Street Wrestler: Street Fighter Characters in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw

YouTube user Jimmy aka jim784m has a great New Year’s gift for Xbox 360 owners who play WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 – custom Street Fighter wrestlers! The detail on the skins are spot on, especially considering he made four different costumes for each fighter. Granted, some of them are palette swaps, but there are also a lot of unique costumes, like Zangief’s cyborg look.

As if that wasn’t enough, Jimmy went the extra extra mile and gave each of the fighters appropriate wrestling moves. For example, Sagat has Muay Thai moves while Zangief has lots of ridiculous slams. Jimmy even managed to recreate M.Bison’s Pyscho Crusher move.

Super Street Fighter IV Joystick Cake: Frosting Hammer Kick Combo!

Now I’m not sure your average 11-year old even knows what Street Fighter is, but any kid who got this SSFIV cake for his birthday should be happy to get this.

Mike “Evorgleb” Belgrove commissioned this SSFIV Fightstick cake for his step-son, Marcos, who is actually a fan of the games himself, god love him. Keep the dream alive, Marcos!

Street Fighters by Country: Stereotypes Fight!

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the World Warrriors are caricatures of their respective cultures, which is why GamesRadar’s The World According To Street Fighter is such an interesting piece, if only to remind us that street fighters Joe and Mike exist. Be grateful for kooks like Urien and Hakan kids.

What cracks me up most among the multitude of revelations that we can glean from this map is that apparently Ingrid is bunched with Q and Seth as having unknown origins, and yet Twelve is from Russia. Awesome.

I Dream in Retro: This is You on Video Games

Have you ever had video game-like dreams? Mike aka OrinCreed had one such dream. Fortunately, he and his friends were able to translate his dream into a video. Mike says I Dream in Retro is “based heavily on a dream I had that was caused by a long day of playing NES, SNES, and Genesis. A lot of the animation is true to the dream with a few changes to keep it interesting.” As if a video game dream wasn’t interesting enough!

As the start screen suggests, Mike’s dream consists of him traveling to different video game levels, using different video game mechanics and weapons. Exciting, eh? Here’s the true-to-dream story:

Officially Licensed Street Fighter Iv HDTV: Hadouken’T Understand This Trend

It seems like Roundtable Concept’s Official Marvel HDTVs were a big hit, because now they’ve partnered with CAPCOM to release official Street Fighter IV LED HDTVs. The TVs will be available in four sizes – 32″, 40″, 42″ and 46″. Just like the Marvel HDTVs, these ones will feature SF IV characters and the logo on the bottom corners of the frame. Street Fightery images will also appear on the screen for 8 seconds when the HDTV is turned on.

It seems like HDTVs are the new arcade cabinets. No word on the price of the TV’s yet, or if they’ll include a free copy of Street Fighter IV. But they should.

Sesame Street Fighter

There’s something just so wrong, it’s right about this Street Fighter and Sesame Street mashup.

Artist gavacho13 combined classic characters from the children’s TV show with the ultimate fighting game to create some really insane new characters with names like Kernie and Beryu, Pig-Li, C. Monda and Baldog.

Pocket Fighter: Street Fighter 4 Coming to iPhone

The iPhone continues its quest to be recognized as a legit gaming device with the impending port of Capcom’s Street Fighter IV to Apple’s money-printing mobile device. As the screenshot below shows, the iPhone port looks a lot like the console versions, although I bet a lot of gamers will complain about the area taken up by the controls. It does look kinda distracting.

Capcom also promises a sizable roster, all of the moves including Ultras (and their corresponding animations), as well as “a number of control configurations so players can find their favorite position, button transparency, and set-up”. Multiplayer battles will be done over Bluetooth, and there’s a training mode as well. No word on the price or release date as of now.

What do you think fighting game enthusiasts? Can you imagine playing (and having fun with) Street Fighter IV on the iPhone?

Street Fighter Rap: Balrog’S Stories

I can’t believe I didn’t know about Turbo T. Double until today, when the bbps‘ Dan Zuccarelli posted the “music video” for one of Turbo T. Double’s songs, which is about Balrog’s take on Chun-Li. Yes, it’s a dude rapping as Balrog who’s talking about Chun-Li. And you know what? T dub’s actually listenable. Nice, even. Turbo T. Double’s latest Balrog rap is about Dhalsim, who stole Balrog’s bag and then teleported away.

The plot is as stupid as a live-action Street Fighter movie, which is exactly why it’s funny. Beat’s decent too.

Level Down: Minimalist Video Game Character Art

Compared to 15 pixel videos of games, these minimalist prints of video game characters are much more recognizable. Of course it helps that the characters shown are very popular.

Or did they become so popular partly because they have such recognizable features? Hmmm.

Whatever the case, one thing’s for sure: you can’t minimalize Pac-Man. Check out Browning’s photoset on Flickr for the rest of the art; I think they make for good iPhone wallpapers. He’s also selling T-shirt versions of some of the prints at MySoti.

I swear when I saw that video I was insanely irritated; I couldn’t believe I spent 23 seconds of my life watching it. Then I watched it again. And again. I found myself shaking my head and smiling, then having mini-bursts of laughter. Stupid video. YouTube user gamecitynottingham (who’s promoting the UK-based GameCity Squared, which I think is kind of like a video game version of the TED Talks) reduced a couple more games to 15 pixels:

Megaman-Inspired Street Fighter 4 Sprites: Ryuman Vs Sagatman Fight!

If you’ve ever wondered how Ryu and the rest of the warriors who like to battle on thoroughfares would look like if they were transported to Megaman’s original 8-bit world, you probably have too much time on your hands. Waste no more of your life, because Capcom forum member SpeedBrkr – he’s so fast some of the vowels in his name were left behind – has gone and done did it for your daydreaming ass. Behold, the cast of Street Fighter IV in 8-bit, Megaman style. Or Rockman style.

He’s also made a wallpaper in various resolutions, including an iPhone-ready version, made to look like a character select screen. You think the Blue Bomber can beat all of these fighters?

Damn those eyes are huge. Want individual sprites? SpeedBrkr’s got you covered. He’s not charging us for his awesome work, but if you’re going to use them on your site or anything please let him know.

Blanka Clay Figurine for Stationary Street Fighters

This clay figurine of the savage Blanka from the Street Fighter games isn’t going to physically shock anyone, but he would probably attract a lot of attention.

Gotta love the blood splatters, as well as those amazing eyes and the signature hair. Is it just me, though, or does this look like Blanka’s face has a hint of something like a Hannya mask? It’s a good look for him, certainly.

I wonder if a bloody Blanky sitting center stage by the computer might frighten away co-workers. Perhaps if you could match that facial expression….

Wireless Xbox 360 Arcade Joysticks for Pulling Off Your Ultimate Combo Moves

These arcade joysticks don’t just look gorgeous, they’re actually only one of two wireless arcade sticks I’ve ever seen for the Xbox 360 (the only other one I’m aware of is Dream Arcade’s new Dream Stick).

Handmade by Mekishiko916 of GangsterGamer, each controller features American HAPP arcade hardware, including a hefty joystick, and the 6-button layout you’d find on an old Street Fighter 2 arcade game. As a matter of fact, Mekishiko precisely measured the position of the buttons on the original arcade machine, and cut each hole to match that exact spec.

Each one is built into a sturdy aluminum case with rubber feet and a Plexiglas protective layer over a Street Fighter-inspired graphic. The controller has a built-in rechargeable battery pack that can be charged up via your Xbox 360′s USB port. Look ma, no wires!
