Super Mario Mushroom Case Mod: Power On to Power Up

We love a good retro case mod and nothing says retro like a Super Mario Bros. mushroom. This one comes from Etsy seller 8BitBuilder (who created the even more special Zelda PC case) and it is an awesome looking Super Mario Mushroom PC tower case mod that that looks like it is about to lift off like a rocket.

If you have deep pockets, it can be yours for $1600(USD) over on Etsy. Sure that’s a little expensive, but it saves you the trouble of gluing hundreds of wooden cubes together and painting the whole thing. Plus you are getting a computer inside as well. It looks amazing. I just love those lights on the bottom. Too bad I don’t have the money to get one or the time to make one for myself.

I’d love to see this done as a 1-up mushroom. That would be even cooler because each purchase would give you another life.

Super Mario and Zelda Roombas: Beware the Goomba Roomba

These custom Super Mario and Zelda themed Roomba covers are awesome and adorable. It’s like the games coming alive in your living room, while your place is simultaneously getting cleaned. How cool is that?

Sadly we can’t have these in our own homes, because these particular covers were created for last Fall’s SUPER iam8bit, a group art exhibition that showcased over 100 artists bringing to life their 80′s video game memories, and they’re already spoken for. These cute floor dwellers come from a collaboration between iRobot and fiber artist Kelice Penney.

There’s the Goomba from the Super Mario games, green and red Koopa shells from Super Mario Kart and even the Octorok from The Legend of Zelda. I wish I could have these guys roaming around my house. Maybe they will be mass-produced some day. What other spinny video game characters do you think would make a good Roomba?

8-Bit Abe & George: Play Your Favorite for President’s Day

Super Mario Playing Cards are not from 19th Century Nintendo

Any gamer worth his salt knows that Nintendo wasn’t always a video game company. Founder Fusajiro Yamauchi started out in 1889 making and selling playing cards, particularly those used in a Japanese game called hanafuda. Fast forward to the 21st century and we have these Super Mario playing cards.

The princess doesn’t seem to be in any of these decks. We originally featured these cards about a year ago, but at the time you couldn’t buy them. Now you can order the cards from Japan Trend Shop for the ludicrous price of $40 (USD) each or $74 for a 3-pack that has a deck from each version. You can’t use them to play Hanafuda, but if you’re a Club Nintendo member you can easily remedy that.

Super Mario Land 3D Trailer and Screenshots, Lets-a-go

Here’s what Mario fans have been waiting for. Nintendo has released a TON of Super Mario Land 3D screenshots and character renders for your enjoyment. I’m not a real big fan of the 3DS myself, but I have to say, this title makes me want to buy one just to play this game. It looks that good.

The 3DS platformer (actually it is part platformer, part 3D Mario) will arrive on November 13th. One of the problem’s that I have had with some recent Mario games is that they have strayed too far from the original platform formula. This has obviously been rectified with Super Mario Land 3D.

The game looks insane and appears to have just the right blend of old school/new school play. And all of our favorite characters seem to make an appearance, although I didn’t see Yoshi and I won’t be losing any sleep over that. So, who else is excited? Super Mario Street Fighters: Strange Combo Move

I’ve actually never thought of combining the characters from Super Mario Bros. with the ones from Street Fighter, but for some strange reason, they do seem appealing. The only thing that’s missing is that either they could be made out of large pixels or strangely muscular cartoon drawings that are animated in low fps.

These illustrations are the work of artist Michael Musco. He loves his old school video games, especially Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. The combinations are quite bizarre to be honest, but they do look good.

The result is pretty awesome and will most likely make you want to play some old school games. Thankfully, you won’t have to go far because you can play Street Fighter on or SFII on your phone these days.

For some reason, I don’t remember Mario looking this way. Not only have I never seen the roly-poly Italian plumber look this sexy, tall, or wearing this much eye makeup, but I’m pretty sure his overalls were never quite this form-fitting.

Shhhcouture’s latex rubber Mario costume isn’t really for the kids though, and more the stuff that someone with a really kinky videogame fetish would want his or her girlfriend to wear.

Super Mario iPad Cases Are the Bob-omb

We spend a lot of money on our gadgets, so we want to protect them. I can’t think of any better cases/covers than these Super Mario themed covers. They look awesome.

These retro covers come from Etsy seller Nokomomo and the details are spot on. They can be made for your iPad, Kindle DX or other tablet sized devices. The material is a high quality Wool felt Blend. That must be what gives them such a warm and fuzzy vibe. They are also more durable than they appear, as they are double layered.

The actual item page is for the Luigi case, but the seller says that other designs are available and shows a pic of all four designs, so it looks like you can request any of these and they will make them for you. They sell for just $40 (USD) from Nokomomo here.

Super Mario Bros. Piranha Plant Earrings Want to Eat Your Lobes Up

Mama Mia! Super Mario Chuck Taylors Now Available for Import

Remember the All Star Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Chuck Taylors that we were all drooling over? I’m sure you also remember how the only problem with those Chucks are that they won’t be released outside of Japan. Well now that problem’s been solved, thanks to online shop JBox.

Look at the awesome box art! I’d buy the shoes just for the box. Actually no, I won’t.

1UP Super Mario Mushroom Lamp Won’t Give Lives, But Will Give Light

I have to admit that these lights are kind of cute, especially if you spend a lot of hours in front of a computer and love Super Mario Bros. While I can’t say if they’ll give you an extra life or make you grow bigger, these new green and red mushrooms from Super Mario Bros still look pretty cool.

These LED lights can double as night lights as well. While they can’t run off magic, they do use battery-power or USB-power to make them light up. Just make sure that no one tries to eat these, or they’ll be in for a nasty stomach ache.

The USB Mushroom Lamp is available from ThinkGeek for $9.99 (USD). Personally, glowing Starman LED lights would make more sense to me.

Zelda and Peach Catch Up

What would Zelda and Peach talk about if they got together for a cup of coffee? Well, College Humor decided to see where this would go. It’s probably best that these two video game characters don’t come out and play too often. They’d get annoying pretty quickly.

It turns out that both Peach and Zelda prefer their kidnappers to Mario and Link. It looks to me like they developed Stockholm syndrome, and actually like spending time with Bowser and Ganondorf.

3d Super Mario Bros. Diorama: No Glasses Required

We’ve featured a few Cubeecraft creations before, but if you’re a high-level Crafter and can do more than just cut and fold, the folks at Laboratory 424 have quite the project for you – a Super Mario papercraft magnet board:

The beauty of this project is that if done right, you’ll be able to slide the pieces around on the board, because they’ll be held in place by magnets. So if you’re patient enough you can actually recreate an entire stage – or world, or the whole game, and then physically control Mario!

Koopa Steaks and Yoshi Stew: Now That’S What’S for Dinner!

Pixel artist Jude Buffum is back with some new stuff: he’s put together some handy images that tell you which parts of your favorite Nintendo 8-bit characters you’ll enjoy eating the most. Naturally, he stays away from the heroes and only presents the ones you’d really like to butcher, like the Koopas and Yoshi.

In the various Super Mario games, you end up stomping and eating quite a bit. I can just see Mario getting even with some koopas by making some nice koopa soup. They must taste good with mushrooms, right? Then, there’s Yoshi. That little dinosaur went all over levels eating up a storm. It’s safe to say that Mario fattened him up with apples so that he could BBQ him.

If you like these, then you should head on over to Jude Buffum’s online shop, where you can purchase prints of these iconic images. They cost between $40 to $135 (USD) each.

Super Mario Mural: I Want One in My Home Office!

This cool retro Super Mario mural would look great in anyone’s bedroom, especially if you’re a Super Mario addict or a kid. To top things off, it’s actually nicely pixelated, which makes it even perfect.

Nathan Roberts recently completed this paint job for his son’s bedroom. He calls it the Retro Room Mural and like he supposes, we’re sure that it will appeal to geeks everywhere. Nathan says that he wanted to instill the geek in his son and I’m sure that it worked!

The process involved finding the right images, then compositing them on his computer. He found that 8-bit and 16-bit images worked best. Once he had the design, all he needed was an LCD projector. He projected the images onto the wall and then hand painted the mural. All in all, Nathan spent $30-50 and 15-20 hours on this project, and it looks pretty awesome.

Super Mario Mushroom and Goomba iPad Cases Make Me Want to Buy an iPad

The whole world knows that Super Mario turned 25 this month, but you know who else turned 25? Everyone else in that game. How else would Mario grow instantaneously without the help of the Super Mushroom? Isn’t the 1-up Mushroom as iconic as Mario himself? Is there a famous video game website named Mario.com? Yeah I didn’t think so. But we do have this. And how would we have known that jumping on an enemy kills it while being touched by one kills Mario, if not for that first Goomba who sacrificed his life to serve as a tutorial? That’s why we should thank HoobyGroovy. Not only does it have a hoobily groovily name, the shop also sells these adorable Super Mushroom, 1-up Mushroom and Goomba iPad cases.

The exterior, lining and closure flap of the cases are made from cotton, while hook and loop tape secures the flap. Each case also has a second pocket that’s spacious enough for a notebook to fit in. The iPad pocket also has wadding in it for added protection to the iPad.

Super Mario Sweaters: Only in Japan

These aren’t just any kind of sweaters, they are official Super Mario sweaters and they come with the blessing of Nintendo! Nope, these aren’t available on Etsy, but only in Japan and you’ll never guess the price.

These Mario and Luigi sweaters sell for a whopping ¥36,000 (appx. $425 USD)! Granted, they are handmade in Japan, but honestly, $425? They come in two colors and you can choose to have a hoody or not. The website doesn’t mention if this is a limited edition of some kind, or the number of sweaters available, so if this tickles your fancy, you should head over to the product page, which is only available in Japanese, to buy one now.

You could always try Flutterscape to hunt them down for you if you’re outside Japan.

Naked Super Mario Isn’T About to Offend Anyone but Sure Looks Strange

I’ve never spent any time wondering what a naked Super Mario would look like, but apparently some people do think about this and this is the strange and disturbing result.

This digital image was created by someone named Mad Mario, who has since deleted his blog. The image first appeared in October 2009 and even if Mad Mario has deleted his blog completely, it’s still available on the Internet.Personally, I think that there should have been an NSFW-version, because this one is sort of anticlimactic, weird, strange, and nasty at the same time. What do you think? Would you play Super Mario with this latest outfit? Probably not!

Super Mario: Mushroom Killing Takes Its Toll
