i-Wood Chalkboard Wooden “Laptop”: Fun Way to Surf with Your Toddler

The i-Wood looks like a great way to surf with your toddler. The wooden chalkboard is shaped like a laptop, perfect to let your kid emulate his or her parents, each typing away on their respective laptops. Sounds cool, but I already know quite a few toddlers who use iPhones and iPads. Still it’s a nice-looking, portable chalkboard for those time you don’t want kids getting their fingerprints all over your iDevice.

This German-made chalkboard “laptop” is also a good way to poke fun at people hiding behind their laptops during meetings. There are two surfaces you can use as a chalkboard, one is situated where you’d find the “screen,” and the other is where you’d find the” keyboard.” The “trackpad” is hollow and allows you to stash extra chalks.

Dude, Want To Surf On a Board of Beer Cans?

Surfing is one of those things that I have never really gotten a firm handle on. Sure, I can stand on the board for a few ~~seconds~~ minutes before I slip or wipe out. I used to sit by the shore and just watch the other surfers ride the waves and do their thing in the water.

One thing that annoys me a lot when I’m out, however, is when I see plastic bags and beer cans and all sorts of other trash just wash up on the shore.

Maybe these guys saw the same thing and decided that they should do something about it. And do something they did with this surf board that’s made out of 72 beer cans, some polyurethane, and a whole lot of epoxy.

The board is a collaboration between artist Rich Morrison and surfboard maker Gary Seagraves in Morrison’s Enviro Surf Art series. The 6’2″ surfboard features a rocket fish design with twin fins and a swallow tail. Morrison says that the beer cans were collected from a local bar in his neighborhood.

I wish I can give it a go or two on that surfboard. Even though I’ll probably still fall off or flip over, at least I can say that I once surfed on a board of beer cans–and that it was good.

It’s got a backlit grey-on-black LCD screen that uses a pixel graph to show the current height of the surf. Also along for the ride are alarm, day/date and dual time zone functionality. It’s also got a countdown timer and chronograph for timing your athletic feats. Plus, the Lodown is water resistant to 100 meters, so it’s perfect for play at sea.

It’s available in black, silver and off-white/blue poycarbonate finishes, and will set you back about $90 from Nixon’s online shop.

Maybe it’s watching all those episodes of HBO’s John from Cincinnati that had me thinking about surfers… or maybe it’s just got me confused.
