Crystal Kinect: You are the Sparkly Controller

I can’t figure out what the obsession is with companies dipping gadgets in tacky crystals. Maybe it’s so bloggers like me will write about them. Damn. I’m just perpetuating the madness. I’m part of the problem, not the solution.

The latest gadget to get a bad case of the shiny-sparklies is this Xbox 360 Kinect that’s been encrusted with over 5,000 Swarovski crystals. Unless you’re some sort of pretty princess living in a candy-coated castle, I can’t imagine why you’d spend $631 of your hard-earned money on this thing.

I wonder if the added weight or shimmer of the crystals affects the performance of the Kinect at all. I can’t imagine that it helps things. If you’re really compelled to drop 6 bills on one of these things, you can place your order over at DS Styles now. Be sure to pick up a matching crystal-covered Xbox 360 while you’re at it.

Me, I’m waiting for the 24k gold-plated edition.

Grungebuds Are Clearly Not Grunge Buds

…not when they’re embedded with Swarovski crystals that form the shape of a cat. A pink cat.

You can pick up a pair of GrungeBuds Crystal Cat Pink at Atomic9′s online store for $40 (USD). You can also “choose your grunge” from other designs – designs which I am not making up – like a dragon, a monkey, and a panda. I don’t know what grunge means anymore.

Elton John Starburst iPod Nanos Are Nanocrystalchromatic

These sparkly limited-edition Elton John iPod Nanos definitely live up to the flamboyant style of their eponymous inspiration.

Created by Goldgenie, each Starburst iPod Nano is encrusted with laser-embedded 250 color-coordinated Swarovski crystals, and features Sir Elton John’s signature etched into the back of the case.

They’re available in black, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, and silver, and only 100 of each color is being made. Each iPod also includes Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits, a 2-CD set of Elton’s most famous tracks.

Priced at £449.99 incl. VAT (appx. $642 USD) for the 16GB model and £399.99 incl. VAT (appx. $570 USD) for the 8GB model, they’re definitely not cheap, but at least 12.5% of the purchase price from each purchase goes to a good cause, the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

I can only imagine that everything in Elton’s house is encrusted with color-coordinated Swarovski crystals, including his gold-plated cat.
