The installation itself features the head of the red Angry Bird. The bird is made of crimson-tinted piggy banks that have been arranged in a latticework to flesh out the bird. He must sure love playing Angry Birds if that’s the installation that’s featured outside his campaign office.

I wonder what his opponents will think of next. Probably a bunch of green piggies made from cans, or something along those lines.

This has to be one of the most minimal watches that I’ve ever seen, and it also has a vibrating alarm function, which is something that I’ve been wanting to see in a watch for a long time. While some people need to hear an alarm, I’ve found that a vibrating alarm is enough to wake me up. The Mutewatch offers a silent alarm and a really cool design to go with it.

The time is shown on an LED display underneath a translucent capacitive touchscreen. Simply flick your wrist to see the time, and swipe the screen to cycle through its functions, which include the alarms and a timer. It includes a motion sensor which registers movement and will automatically adjust the strength of its vibration alarm. So, for instance, if you are sleeping, it increases the intensity of the vibrations. You can also customize the length of the vibrations, allowing you to use them as a reminder.

The watches were designed in Sweden and made in Taipei. The white version has sold out for now, but it’s still available in grey and red for $259 (USD). You can get one over at Mutewatch.

The Flexbook was created by Taiwan-based designer Hao-Chun Huang for entry into Fujitsu’s 2011 Design Award contest. As the name implies, it’s basically a foldable netbook that can also be used as a tablet. The design is supposed to be waterproof, but only time will tell if this is possible in this form factor.

The Flexbook would have a 21:9 11-inch folding screen and is designed to be portable. My guess that it would use a flexible OLED screen of some kind. The keyboard could also fold up and can be deployed whenever needed. It would convert from netbook into a as tablet and e-book reader when the keyboard is stowed.

The design also calls for swappable rubber skins, which will allow for further customization.

It will be interesting to see what kinds of tablets, netbooks, and smartphones manufacturers come up with when flexible OLED screens become cheaply available. It’s safe to say that tablets, smarthphones and netbooks will probably end up being combined into one device once their displays can be folded.

At last week’s CeBIT show, Krator showed a few different pairs of speakers. There’s the Neso 04 Drop to the nature, the Neso 04 Surrealism and the Neso 2, which is handcrafted out of wood. The ones I like the best are the Neso 04 Opera House, pictured below:

The new models look interesting enough, though I wonder how good they will sound. Probably as good as all of the other desktop speakers out there, unless they end up being really expensive.

The Hello-Q case is made by Coobeo in Taiwan, and it will allow you to create custom patterns, as well as stacking bricks on your PC any way you want. You can even build custom pockets, shelves, and anything else you can think of. It’s hared to tell from the pictures if you can use authentic LEGO bricks, but the spacing and size looks a little larger than normal.

The case is available in black, pink, blue, or white. It’s got two front-facing USB ports and audio jacks too. Sure, it’s no Lian-Li, but it’s a fun little case.

At the show, the robot hosts will show off some beautiful jade treasures, including holographic versions. The Aurora Kids are a bunch of new-ish robots that can speak, sing, and dance, sort-of.
The A Posture a weirdly-named stapler shaped like a high-heeled shoe. It sounds like something you’d find over at Deal Extreme but this one is surprisingly nice to look at. It’s cheap too – Urban Prefer is selling it for NT$ 280 (approx. $8 USD).

This colorful saucer-shaped creature is the coolest lighting fixture I’ve seen in a long time. The Yantouch Jellyfish definitely resembles the body of the gooey undersea creature that it’s named for, but lights up in many more colors than its cnidarian doppelgangers.

The curvaceous lamp is loaded up with bright RGB LEDs that can change to any of 16 million unique colors and brightness levels through the use of a unique touch-panel interface. It actually works sort of like the color palette control you might find in photo-editing and painting software. Check out how it works in the video below:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

In addition to fixed-colors, you can set the Jellyfish to a color flow mode with a variable fade speed between the colors of your choice. And you can switch off the front side illumination, leaving only the Jellyfish’s clear “tentacle” structure which provides a cool backlighting.

When powered off, the Jellyfish maintains a stealthy look, with a sleek black top and white bottom.

While I haven’t found any U.S. retailers for the Yantouch yet, the have numerous Taiwanese and Japanese retailers as well as an French retailer listed up on their website. Pricing in Japan is set at ¥14,800 (appx. $160 USD).

Wouldn’t it be cool if your could get some speakers that are even thinner than that ultra-slim flat TV you’ve got hanging on the wall? Well you might not have to wait long thanks to this new technology that produces speakers that are as thick as a sheet of paper. And did I happen to mention, they’re flexible too?

Developed by Taiwan’s ITRI, fleXpeaker technology produces arrays of tiny speakers that can be joined together to make high-quality speakers of almost any size – meaning they could be the perfect companion for that unlimited-size OLED display you just covered your entire house with. While its frequency response doesn’t go below 500Hz, at least the fleXpeaker can reach highs up to 20 KHz.

The technology is designed to allow embedding of speaker elements into anything from everyday consumer electronics devices to massive posters and banner ads with built-in sound. fleXpeakers also consume very little power so could be perfect for other portable applications. Check out the video clip below to see (and hear) an early prototype of the fleXpeaker in action:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Now if only they made some flat subwoofers to go with these…

I don’t think I really need a holder for my cell phone, but if I did, I’d want mine to look just like this.

These charming handmade leather rocking horses come to us from the creative minds of Taiwan’s 25TOGO Design.

Each horsey is handcrafted from genuine Brazilian leather, and has a cutout in the saddle to hold a cell phone or media player. They’re available in either brown or black leather, and look great rockin’ along on any desktop. They sell for 980 Taiwan Dollars (appx. $29 USD), a whole lot less than a real horse, and no stable fees either.

I’m not sure if you can get these shipped outside of Taiwan, but if you want to give it a shot, gallup on over to the 25TOGO Store and see if you can rein one in for yourself.

Acer displayed their first-ever phone, the tentatively named F1 at the ongoing Computex exhibition in Taiwan. You may be familiar with Acer’s obsession with Formula 1 racing, as they have made numerous tie-ins with the BAR-Honda and Ferrari teams. The F1 hopes to live up to its codename with the help of one of the hottest pieces of technology today, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. The Snapdragon fitted on the F1 is rated at 1 Ghz. By comparison, the iPhone 3G’s Samsung ARM processor is rated at “only” 620 MHz.

The F1 is Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-enabled. It also has GPS capabilities, an FM Tuner and a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus.

I wish we had hi-res pictures that would do justice to the F1′s 3.8 inch touchscreen, but we’ll have to be content with these shots for now. I also wish that Google would polish up their translator, because I’m pretty sure that ePrice didn’t mean to say that the F1′s “biggest selling point is a 1 GHz processor, doubling the speed while not really, but to ensure faster. ”

Here we see the buttons in front of the phone. I’m not sure if that’s three or four buttons; the ePrice article probably mentions it but again the answer got lost in translation.

That’s the camera right there, along with the LED flash. The vents on the lower left are speakers, and the tiny dent on the upper left of the F1 is actually its stylus.

You can check out more details regarding the F1 at ePrice (Google Mangled Translated version).

Taiwan-based Ultmost Technology makes all sorts of gadgets, from talking tire gauges to automatic Muslim prayer watches. But they also have A/V equipment, like the Fuss LC-4212 B 42″ LCD TV. Perhaps because there are already hundreds of LCD TVs out in the market, Ultmost Technology tried to make their product stand out. They kinda succeeded, except that the TV reminds me of a Sony product.

Looks like a not-so-portable Playstation Portable to me. The PS 3′s XMB adds to the TV’s resemblance to the PSP, since both devices use the same interface. A few buttons here and there and Ultmost will have a lawsuit in their hands.

The TV is currently on display at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. No word on specs and pricing yet, not even at Ultmost Technology’s website, so we’re not sure if it plays PSP games. You never know.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But sometimes, a crummy copy is just a crummy copy. Take for example, this poor Taiwanese knock-off of the Apple iPhone. This thing makes no bones about its source of inspiration. Heck, they couldn’t even come up with an original name and just called it the iFone.

This wannabe version of the iPhone copies the basic case design of Apple’s beauty, but certainly falls short on the details. For starters, there’s no glass face or durable aluminum back here. We’re talking cheap plastic and shiny chrome plate. Plus, it looks like it’s about twice as thick as the real iPhone.

Under the hood, you won’t do too much better. It’s pretty much your run-of-the-mill MP3/MP4 player phone, with just 256MB of on-board memory (although you can expand storage up to 2GB with an SD card). Of course, the touchscreen isn’t multi-touch, and needs a stylus to function properly. On the other hand, the bargain basement iFone does offer video recording capability with its 2-megapixel camera – something Apple hasn’t yet added to the iPhone. It’s also not locked to to a single carrier. The phone supports all GSM/GPRS networks, has SMS and WAP capabilities, but no real HTML web browser. At least they did manage to include Bluetooth connectivity inside the iFone’s bulky shell.

But let’s get real here. If you really want an iPhone, save your money and buy a real one. The only reason you’d even think about buying one of these is if you’re a real cheapskate, and you don’t mind looking like one. If you’re still convinced that you must have one, the iFone is available for $165 from DealExtreme (including free shipping).

Dynascan’s systems display video all the way across the surface of a cylindrical fixture, using thousands or super-bright LEDs to produce an image. Dynascan developed a proprietary technology which spins LEDs around a drum to produces all light colors at the same pixel location, rather than using clusters of adjacent red, green and blue LEDs, which is typical in large color LED systems. The result is a much finer level of detail and better color accuracy than could be achieved with a standard grid of LEDs.

The displays have already been featured in aiports and malls all around the world, so it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing these all over the place.
