Times are tough for everybody. That must be why this 1:3 Scale TIE Fighter Playhouse showed up for sale on Craigslist in the Olympia, Washington area. I guess the Empire needs funds like everyone else.

This is one awesome Craigslist find. Put it in the backyard and let your kid have all kinds of amazing space battles, limited only by their imagination as they pilot this amazing TIE Fighter. You would be the best parent ever. The TIE Fighter measures 8x8x8 feet and is built out of plywood, and can even fire party poppers from its “Laser Cannons.”

The seller is asking for “$150 or best offer.” I’m sure the offers are just pouring in by now. Just imagine your kid, or even you, looking out of that cockpit. I’d love to park it in my driveway. Too bad the wings are covered in cardboard – it probably wouldn’t survive a rainstorm, let alone an asteroid field.

Star Wars fans, here’s something you probably never imagined would happen to your beloved X-Wing and TIE Fighters – they’ve been turned into slot cars. The new sets come courtesy of UK outfit Scalextric.

The first set onto the scene is called the tiny 1:64 scale Death Star Attack set, and it comes with both X-Wing and TIE Fighters, pimped out with wheels on the bottom so they can speed around the slot track, which measures in at approximately 149 inches in total length. The ships are both lighted and the track even glows in the dark. I can only imagine that Luke could have skipped using The Force to find his way to the chewy middle of the Death Star had his path been guided by a slot track.

The second set is of the slightly more appropriate Battle of Endor, which comes in a 1:32 scale kit. It comes with a pair of speed bikes – one with Luke Skywalker, the other with a Scout Trooper – zipping along through the forests of Endor (or is that the California redwoods?) Sadly, the kit doesn’t come with any Ewoks you can run over, but there are a few standing by the side of the track trying to knock down some AT-ST walkers. Total track length for the Endor scene about 169 inches, which means that when you take the larger scale into account, you actually more bang for your buck with the Death Star scene.

All of the flying craft are held to the track with Scalextric’s “Magnatraction,” tiny neodymium magnets – but I imagine they still have to have wheels to get around. I don’t think they’ve quite worked out the quantum levitation thing on slot car sets yet.

There’s no word on a release date for either set, but Scalextric has them both listed on their website now. The Micro Scalextric Death Star set will retail for £69.99 (~$109 USD), while the larger Battle of Endor set is listed at £99.99 (~$156 USD). Be sure to stop by their site to be notified when they’re in stock.

If you like your Star Wars ships fuzzy, then you’ll want to check out what Andrea Burnett of Sheep Creek Needlecraft has been making. These awesome needle felted Star Wars ornaments are nicely detailed. Just check out the Millennium Falcon cockpit and dish! They would look awesome on your geek-mas tree.

Andrea must have trained under a Jedi master who taught her the ways of <del datetime="2011-12-02T16:16:42+00:00">the force</del> fuzz. So far, she has needle-felted versions of the TIE Fighter, Falcon, an X-Wing and Yoda.

Luke, these are your speakers. Major League Mods – who made the projector equipped R2-D2 Xbox 360 casemod – showed off this Star Wars themed sound system at the recently concluded New York Comic-Con. It has two TIE fighter speakers and a Darth Vader bust converted into an iPhone dock. But the pièce de résistance is the Death Star subwoofer. Rumor has it that it has a knob to control its superlaser.

Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of info about how the models were converted into speakers. I do know that the sound system has a total power output of 200W, and that the TIE fighters each have a Yamaha 2¾-inch mid-range and 1 inch dome tweeter with built-in crossovers, while the Death Star hides a 6½-inch driver and was custom painted by NubGraffix.

Audiophiles will be quick to point out that a 2.1 sound system won’t give you the best sound quality (especially for games or movies) and will barely be enough to distract Yoda from his meditation. Hardcore Star Wars fans could also chastise this mod because the TIE fighters are larger than the Death Star, which is supposed to house thousands of the star fighters in its belly. Both are legitimate complaints, but I’m still very impressed with this mod, especially with regards to the integration of the audio components. You’ll barely notice that they’re speakers unless you look closely. Check out Major League Mods’ Photobucket account for high-res pics.

He used the 1995 Hasbro Toy, ripped it open and replaced the inside with an N64. It is awesome looking and the design is kept nice and clean. I love how the controller ports are next to the missiles.

Next up is a Snow Speeder, also made from a 1995 Hasbro toy. Again, it looks amazing and the design is nice and clean. I would love to own these bad boys. If you want them, they are both available on Etsy. The Snow Speeder is $184.99 (USD) and the TIE Fighter is $209.99 (USD).

Why not work out your frustrations on this TIE Fighter Pinata? If I could hit this thing right now I would be thinking about how there was almost nothing neat or cool in the Star Wars prequels. I would be thinking about Jar Jar Binks. My focused rage for Jar Jar alone would be enough to send candy flying everywhere with one whack. I would be wondering why this Tie Fighter is a shade of Easter blue. But I digress.

This handcrafted pinata measures about 14 x 12 x 15 inches and features an easy open flap to put your favorite candy inside. It comes from Etsy seller Outofthisworldpinata who makes all kinds of geek pinatas. There’s also a Millenium Falcon pinata available, but sadly that one just looks like a flattened cake.

The TIE Fighter pinata is great for geek birthdays or whenever you want to wage a one man war against a lone Imperial craft. You can buy one for $45(USD) from the seller here.

Star Wars fans rejoice! Now you can let Darth Vader keep watch on your every move as he pilots this pint-sized TIE Fighter Advanced X1 webcam onto desk.

The TIE Fighter camera not only captures audio, video and images, but lights up and features digitized sound effects taken directly from the Star Wars movies. The only thing better than this would be to plug the camera’s USB cable directly into a Darth Vader USB hub, no?

Wesco Limited has recently started production on these, and you should be able to pre-order them now on on UK collectors’ site Forbidden Planet for £22.99 (about $42 USD). The force to buy one is strong within you.
