While it’s been around for a while, the pixelated 8-Bit Tie might still be cool to wear around if you’re a big fan of retro video games, especially if your office has a casual dress code.

Oh, and there’s a good reason why this tie absolutely has to be a clip-on. If it weren’t, it would create a triangular pattern at the knot instead of blocky pixels, so no can do. Besides, making it a clip-on makes it just that much more geeky. The tie is made out of microfiber and polyester, so you can also use it to clean the screen of your tablet or smartphone.

It would be funny to find a matching 8-bit suit, so that you’d basically be just a few blocks of pixels when you dress up. The 8-bit Tie is available from ThinkGeek for $14.99(USD) in red or blue.

What’s a Jedi or Sith to do the next time they get invited to a formal dinner party, like the one that Lando Calrissian threw on Bespin? Well if you want to look good for the Dark Lord, you’ll need to look stylish and make sure your tie stays put, right?

Thanks to the fine folks at Japan’s Kotobukiya, that’s now a possibility, as they’ve just released these awesome lightsaber tie tacks. They’re based on either Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker’s saber handles, and are nicely detailed and cast in plated brass.

At this point, they’re only available in Japan, but I did find both the Vader and Skywalker variants over on Amazon Japan for ￥3,455 each (~$40 USD) if you want to give them a whirl – I’m just not sure if they ship worldwide. Oh, and if you need a tie to go with…

When I first saw these USB fans by Thanko, I almost wished that I were a man who regularly wore suits and ties to work so that I would have something to clip them on. Almost.

Thanko is an accessory designer based in Japan, and can I say that I wait with bated breath with each new release the company makes because they’re so darned quirky and out-of-this-world?

Their latest offering is this clip-on fan or cooler that can be easily attached to your tie so you don’t have to exert energy fanning yourself with a hand fan on hot days. Each of these fans come with a battery pack for power on-the-go and can be charged up via your USB port. There’s also another version that’s been around for a while which actually is built into a necktie, but you’re stuck with just a single ugly tie design if you go with that one.

The USB clip-on fan is available from Thanko for about $32 (USD). Sadly, it’s still available in Japan, so you might want to start phoning your Japan-based friends or colleagues so they can get their hands on one for you.

Father’s day is just around the corner, and if you still haven’t found the perfect present for you dad, then I suggest you get him a Pillow Tie.

Before you ask, let me just say that, yes, it’s exactly what its name suggest. Use it as a tie and look formal and all dandy in your suit. But when no one’s watching, just sneak off into an empty room or into the far corner, quickly inflate it, and take a nap on your tie-turned-pillow. Perfect.

Seeing some of the cool stuff that only guys get to use makes me wish that I were a guy sometimes. Just sometimes.

The Pillow Tie will also have your dad catching his breath literally because it has to be manually inflated. But hey, it’s better than having to lug around one of those portable-but-still-bulky neck pillows or having to lie on one of those uncomfortable throw pillows, right? It’s available from Baron Bob for $19.95.

Now it’s time to take your geek pride up a notch by getting one that lights up.

And you can get one from Enlighted Designs, a company that prides itself with producing illuminated clothing, including the all-new Circuit Board LED Tie.

The circuit board is actually just printed on the fabric but the LED lights integrated into the tie are fully functional and flash in different patterns. The addition of the LED lights will either make the tie more appealing to your geek side or make you recoil because of its hideousness. So which is it?

These ties are actually made-to-order so you can head on over to Englighted Designs to order one for $75 (USD).

Michael Phipps of Scatterbrain Ties silkscreens these convincing looking circuit ties by printing metallic copper and silver inks on a green (or black) microfiber fabric. The artist doesn’t say what the circuit board is from, but without any parts on it, I doubt it would work anyhow. Though I think it would be cool if it actually had foil conductors instead of inks and had a whole computer system built into it. I can dream, can’t I?

If you want to wire up the circuit board tie for yourself, head on over to Etsy, where you can grab one for $30 (USD). If you want to go all-out, you can grab the matching T-shirt.

I’ve made it my goal in life to never have another job where I have to wear a suit and tie to work. But if I ever find myself in that situation again, I know exactly what I’m showing up to the office wearing around my neck.

These retro video gamer ties are perfect for making a statement when you don’t want to wear the boring old blue tie that you’ve got sitting in your dresser drawer. Wild Ties makes these neckties in Tetris, Pong, Space Invaders or Asteroids versions so you’re covered whether you’re looking for something colorful, or would rather go with something more minimal and monochromatic.

All four retro game ties are available over on Amazon for $24.95 (USD) each. And if you’re looking for a more generic 8-bit tie, there’s you can always try this one on for size.

You can buy on of these groovy laptop sleeves for $40 from Barry’s Farm. The sleeve is made of heavy duty vinyl and padded with 1/4 fabric backed foam, with a flannel lining to caress your computer.

This kind of reminds me of those severed female torso mice from a few weeks back, except in a more masculine, buttoned-up format. Glad to see there is some gender equality when it comes to severed torso-inspired design.

This spiffy Guitar Hero necktie sports a set of colorful fret buttons which you can “play” with any time you like. While the only music you’ll hear is that damned tune that’s stuck in your head from last night’s marathon session, at least you can practice your expert mode chord progressions while your boss flips through his latest PowerPoint slides.

Made from “silky” black polyester, the Guitar Hero tie is available now from Zazzle for about $30. Rock on!

It’s a necktie. No, it’s a fan. No, it’s a necktie. No, it’s a fan AND a necktie in one! Yep, leave it to the gadget wizards at Japan’s Thanko to come up with this bright idea.

The $25 USB Tie Fan is a giant clip-on that you can wear around your neck, keeping you cool while you sit at your desk.

Sure, the whole idea is insanely impractical, given the USB cable you’ll have to attach to your computer, but you’re sure to draw attention from your co-workers when you wear this accessory.
