When you’re cramped for space, you start looking for alternative means and places where you can possibly put or even mount gadgets and appliances on. And in this day and age, we all know that smaller or lesser is better, at least when it comes to pretty much everything but televisions.

And the slimmest toaster of the world (at least for now, and in concept) is the Slim Toaster. Designed by Muzaffer KOÇER & Ayca Guven, the Slim Toaster is meant to be mounted on your wall, so you can use the space that your toaster previously occupied for something that doesn’t have a wall-mountable counterpart as of yet.

The cool thing about the Slim Toaster is that it already comes with a holder that you can just slide off from the unit to pick up the toasted bread from the slide-out slot below to transfer it to your plate. It’s compact, attractively designed, and comes with all the necessary accessories. Other than being able to toast more slices simultaneously, what more can you ask for from a toaster?

No one would skip meals if cooking implements were as fun to use as this defibrillator toaster looks. No one except doctors. The bread-reviving contraption was imagined by industrial designer/morning person/owner of an unusually large funny bone Shay Carmon.

Note the ECG pattern on the surface of the toaster. Smear some peanut butter & jelly on the paddles and you’re cleared to toast.

Then again, it is a bit morbid.

Poor bread. Revived only to be eaten. Call an ambulance stat and rush to Carmon’s website to examine her other designs.

Designer Hadar Gorelik set out to find a solution to a problem that’s plagued many hungry people in the morning: there’s never enough toast to go around, because most toasters can only take two, maybe four slices of bread at once. So you put in two, then you wait, then ding and then you take those out and put two in… Hadar’s solution? More toast slots!

As you can see Hadar’s concept involves a single slot toaster that can be combined with its own kind, forming one ultra mega hyper mecha toaster train. Each unit works on its own, so you can take one or more units off the mother toaster ship if you don’t need to toast a lot of bread or if you want to take a toaster with you.

I just see one problem with Hadar’s concept. How are they powered? Does each toaster have its own cord and plug, or will you only need to connect one toaster to a socket even though there are multiple units connected? And what’s the toaster’s finishing move? Why are the individual units not color coded? How will we recognize the team leader without his red outfit?

If you’re like me, then the first thing that you probably crave for the moment you wake up (after brushing your teeth and taking a shower, of course) is breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day so it’s something that I rarely ever skip, even though I’m already really late.

For harried days like that (which happen quite often for me), I just pop some bread into the toaster, dash around the house like a madwoman, and grab it before running out of the house. Sometimes it’s a little burnt on the edges, sometimes it’s still cold in the middle, and other times, I feel like I’m eating a black, bitter cookie.

So when I saw the Roastie toaster designed by Mateusz Główka, I was beyond excited.

Now that perfect slice of toast is well within arm’s reach. Although it’s still a concept design for now, I’d really love to see the Roastie toaster through until production.

For one, it looks extremely cool. What’s not to love about a <del>fish-tank</del> bubble-shaped toaster in your kitchen?

Besides appearances, it also promises to toast your bread to perfection in a shorter time than most conventional oven toasters do. Of course, the Roastie’s design could still use a little work, seeing as it can only accommodate one slice of bread at a time. But hey, for the perfect toast, I’m willing to compromise.

All this talk about toast is starting to make me hungry…

* pushes self away from desk and walks to the kitchen to make a pastrami sandwich *

What happens when you rip the guts out of a four-slice toaster, and replace them with the innards of an Xbox 360? Well, it stops making english muffins, but it does play CoD: Black Ops now.

Modder ncaruso11, aka (akatheguy2) gutted his toaster and turned it into the epic XToaster360. Sure, it’s a little more bulky than a stock Slim 360, but on the other hand, it looks way better in the kitchen than any other Xbox 360 I’ve seen. Check out a couple of clips of the XToaster360 in action below:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

I’m not quite sure why in the first video, the drive tray opens by touching something on the left side under the toast plunger, and in the second clip, he presses the toast darkness knob on the right. If I had my drothers, you’d actually eject the disk by pressing that toast cancel button that’s on most modern toasters, and the DVD would go flying out of one of the toast slots.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Alongside his video posts, the modder says “If I can sell this one then there are sure to be bigger and better ones in the future. Feel free to throw out any ideas.” [Technabob Raises Hand] Keep two of the toast slots open so I can toast a bagel during my next multiplayer marathon Halo:Reach session. I’m pretty sure the 360 throws off enough heat to do that without having to keep the heating elements.

This Invader Toaster was created by Londoner Chris Naylor, and, for now, is just a concept device. The best part of the design is that it burns a pixelated Space Invader on to your toast. Just don’t mistake it for a video game and start shooting it with lasers, or you’ll just lose your nifty designer toaster.

Bodum’s Bistro flatbed toaster is a versatile device. Thanks to its design, the 700 w toaster can heat, toast or defrost almost any size or shape of bread.

The design has its drawbacks of course, like being able to toast only one side at a time, so that may be a deal breaker for some folks. But if you’re looking to liven up your kitchen, then you’ll be glad to know that the Bistro comes in all sorts of crazy colors.

Or I guess I should say it will come in all sorts of crazy colors; I’m not sure, but I think right now only the default color scheme is available. You can get the Bistro flatbed toaster at Amazon for $80 (USD). Are you insane and would rather pay an extra $10? Then get it at Hammacher Schlemmer. And oh I just thought of another drawback: compared to the common slot-loading toaster, it’s easier to accidentally burn yourself on a flatbed toaster. At least it’ll only burn one side at a time, right? Right?

I guess you just can’t deny that cartridges and slices of bread aren’t completely dissimilar.

Yep, it’s a working SNES in a stark white toaster enlivened with a red glow. The Super Nintoaster comes from the BenHeck.com forums, home of dozens of spectacular modders. vomitsaw, builder of the Super Nintoaster, has apparently tread this ground before; this effort was inspired by an older project, which involved–as you may have guessed–putting an NES into a toaster.

I like it, but call me when it can play my games and make my toast. According to this hilarious video, the Super Nintoaster cannot. Weak.

Inspired by a scene from an old British TV sitcom, modder/appliance frankenstein lemonie decided to make a real vhs toaster. He succeeded and failed at the same time. Which is kind of a feat in itself.

That’s the VHS toaster in the background. In the foreground are a couple of sweet VHS-marked toasted bread. But where were they toasted?

See, lemonie did manage to mash the innards of an ordinary toaster into a VHS case, but then he found out that his design had a lot of flaws. For example, the case gets really hot, which is no surprise. Plus lemonie said that he couldn’t leave the damned thing on its own. I think it’s because his invention is quite grumpy, and unlike its parents it probably doesn’t want to be stuffed with anything, whether bread or tape.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The worst part about all of this is that the branded bread that you saw in the first picture was not toasted from the VHS toaster. Here’s lemonie’s confession: “I’d originally intended for the toaster to leave “VHS” on the toast. However, the top rack was too far away to be effective, and I knew that while it would work on the bottom rack the toast would stick to the VHS mask. I laid the mask on the bread and toasted it in the toaster, horizontally. Yes, I switched slices in the video, for artistic purposes.” At least he was honest enough to reveal that.
