Bioshock is still one of my favorite games of the last decade, so I was disappointed to hear that Bioshock 3 had been delayed until February 2013. At least I’ve got something to cheer me up for a few minutes of the extended wait.

What you’re looking at here is the Bioshock Mr. Potato Head – called Potato Daddy, or as I like to call him Mr. Bubbles Head.

This crazy creation is the work of one Ginger Troll, and is the perfect mashup between Bioshock’s Big Daddy and Mr. Potato Head.

I love how he still has the googley eyeballs from Mr. Potato Head, but wields that nasty killer drill. From the looks of things he’s even a little bigger than this Bouncer, so maybe he could take him on in a fight. Er, maybe not.

Check out more pics of Mr. Bubbles Head over on Ginger Troll’s Flickr stream.

If you’re looking for the perfect accessory for your game room, look no further than this excellent plush version of Mario, dressed up in his famous flying raccoon Tanooki suit.

He doesn’t actually fly, but this newly available import from Sanei comes in two sizes, and will look great hanging out on your couch next to you as you play your favorite Super Mario game on your Nintendo console. I’ll let you in on a little secret, though. He’ll sit there and tolerate it while you play Modern Warfare 3 or even Skyrim if that’s your game of choice. Mario’s a pretty flexible guy.

If you want a plush Tanooki Mario to be a couch potato with you, head on over to NCSX, where you can order him in small for $39.90 and in medium for $58.90. Sorry, I have no idea how big “small” or “medium” is.

Were big fans of old-school kung fu movies around my house. My daughter and I particularly like Bruce Lee. The downside is that each time we watch a Bruce Lee flick, she stalks around the house and jumped out at any given moment with a Lee-like HI-YAH and punches me in the junk. My only saving grace is that apparently a quality hiiiii-yaaaaa takes some build up so I get a bit of warning when I hear a little hiiiii.

If you or someone in your house is a fan of kung fu movies in the cheesy sound effects that go along with them, they need the Dragon Grip that’s on Kickstarter now.

This toy looks like the handle from a joystick and has a trigger and a D-pad on top. When someone does the kung fu moves while pressing the trigger the Dragon Grip makes sounds automatically.

The device goes along with a comic book called Legend City. If you want one of these toys, you’ll need to pledge $25(USD) or more. If you want to grip and the comic book, you’ll need to cough up $32 or more. The expected delivery on the Dragon Grip is December, assuming the project gets enough pledges to fund it.

A couple of years ago we heard about Racer, an analog take on arcade racing games: instead of just controlling a virtual car, the game had you control an R/C car using the traditional arcade setup. Blair Kelly has an updated take on that concept, which he calls the Arduino WiFly Mini.

Using an Arduino UNO, a WiFly Shield, a GoPro Hero 2, a three-axis accelerometer and lots of other bits and bobs that do important stuff, Kelly was able to turn a Tamiya Mini M05 R/C car into an analog arcade racer. The toy car connects to its base station via Wi-Fi, allowing it to be controlled wirelessly via a variety of controllers (including a steering wheel) and in return send a live first-person – first-toy car? – view as well as force feedback. He can even set it so that the camera pans in sync with the steering.

Want to know how to make your own Arduino WiFly Mini? You’re in luck: Kelly has a staggeringly comprehensive how-to on his website that is longer than the entire Harry Potter series. It was a compelling read. I couldn’t put it down. I like the part where Kelly realized he should be putting a series of instructions into one packet instead of sending packets with each instruction so the method more greatly resembles a PPM stream.

Built by Professor T. Lemetry, the Goliathon is the result of weaponizing “all the horsepower of a full-size steam locomotive”, resulting in a gun so powerful it can “level a building, down an airship, or turn a man inside out.” Aside from being an excellent modder, the good professor also has a colorful imagination. The truth is that the Goliathon is nothing but a toy.

The Goliathon is a heavily modified Nerf Vulcan Blaster. To the professor’s credit it does look like it a weapon from another time, or at the very least something that can be used as a bludgeon. It has various metal embellishments, including copper piping, 4 gauges, a valve wheel and other brass trinkets.

Peer Kreuger put his motorized LEGO Tahickoma tank up on Cuusoo and needs your support for the powers that be to notice it. If you’re a Ghost in the Shell fan that should be all that you need to know, but in case you still need more motivation, here’s a look at the toy:

Still not impressed? What if I told you that it can wave its arms and move its head? No? What if I told you that it has wheels but can also walk? No? What if I show you all those things I just said?

Kreuger estimates that the toy will sell for $150-$200(USD) if it becomes a real product. That’s a big if; as per Cuusoo rules, gathering the required 10,000 votes is no guarantee that LEGO will make it a real product, just that they will consider the possibility. But a true Section 9 operative never gives up, so go to LEGO Cuusoo and vote for the Tachikoma – and tell your friends to do the same. I bet if LEGO includes a Laughing Man sticker with every toy it will sell like crazy.

I love it when geeks take virtual weapons from video games and recreate them in the real world. We’ve seen weapons created from wood and paint in the past, but my favorite is when they create the virtual weapons using LEGO bricks. For his Halo Reach weapon, LEGO is the medium of choice for a guy named Nick Jensen (aka “Nick Brick”) .

Nick built a full-size M45 Tactical Shotgun over the course of two months exclusively from LEGO bricks. He says that a little bit of glue was required in some particularly weak spots so it wouldn’t fall apart, but other than that, the gun looks very realistic and actually has some working features.

The coolest of the working features is the sliding pump-action.When the pump is moved, it also actually ejects a shell. How awesome is that?

I wonder what the design process that went into coming up with a workable pump-action slider entailed.

BTW, Nick is the same dude that made that Halo LEGO sniper rifle a while back. I wonder when he’ll build a LEGO Plasma Sword and LEGO M41 Rocket Launcher to go with.

While I really don’t think we need any more Angry Birds merchandise, I have to say this is one of the better product tie-ins I’ve seen so far. What we’ve got here is the Angry Birds Helicopter, which actually lets you practice flying your bird with a remote control.

This rather silly looking Angry Birds Helicopter comes with a wireless remote, which offers a range of up to about 30 to 45 feet, and a flying time of 8 to 10 minutes on a 40 minute charge. While the red bird has been much improved in Angry Birds Space, I still don’t think he could pull off moves like these when being flung from a catapult:

Take that green <del>pigs</del> cups! The Angry Birds Helicopter is available now from iHelicopters.net for $49.95 (USD). Eggs not included.

Stardate 5928.5, we had a pool party for Spock’s birthday today, and what do you know, my chair floats. I don’t think we will ever hear Kirk or Picard utter that sentence in the Captain’s log. But if you’re a small adult or have a child that likes science fiction, ThinkGeek has something you’ll definitely want to buy.

For $24.99 (USD), you can get your own inflatable Star Trek captain’s chair. The chair is decorated to look just like the one Kirk used on the bridge as he boldly went around the universe in the original series. The chair measures 27.75″(H) x 29.25″(W) x 18″(D), and will hold a maximum weight of 120 pounds, so normal-sized adults can’t really sit on it – at least not more than once. I wonder if the chair would float upright if you used it as a pool toy.

This would be the perfect chair for your little Star Trek geek while you watch reruns together. Personally, I would rather see an inflatable recreation of Jean-Luc Picard’s chair, but that’s just me.

We’re big fans of Peer Kreuger’s work and have featured a couple of his designs. One of his newest toys is an excellent replica of the Tachikoma, the artificial intelligence sidekicks with spider-like bodies in Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell. This Tachikoma can’t shoot webs, fire guns or have mind-numbing discussions about existence and identity though.

It may not be as smart as its manga and animé counterpart, but this Tachikoma is still pretty impressive. It moves on its wheels, but it can also seamlessly switch to walking mode to tackle rough terrain. It can also move its “head” and wave its arms.

You can also check out his Flickr page for more detailed pictures.

We all know that kids love iPads and iPhones. They love the games, the touch-based OS and basically it’s impossible to get your iDevice back when it gets into the hands of a toddler. The Totoya Creatures cases are meant to house your iPhone or iPad and encourage your kids to play with them even more.

Totoya plush creatures will swallow up and protect your devices, while allowing kids to peek at the display through some of the holes. The iDevice acts as the creature’s eyes and heart thanks to strategically-placed cutouts. There are other holes that allow kids to trigger specific effects. The cases look quite sturdy and you’ll have to run the dedicated free app for them to work with the plush toy.

The iPad toys are called YetYet and Robotto while the iPhone toys are YetX and RobX. They sell for $79.90 (USD) and $49.90 respectively.

Griffin has been selling some interesting little remote control helicopters for a while. The little helicopters are controlled by iOS devices such as an iPhone or an iPad. I’ve used them before and I can say that they can be difficult to control. There is something appealing about flying toys that can put out your eye and chop off your finger at the same time. Actually, you’d have to try pretty hard to cause such a serious injury with one of these.

The latest helicopter launching from the company is called the Helo TC Assault and it looks like a small Apache helicopter with red missiles on each side. You control the helicopter using the app and can fire the missiles at the press of a button. That app allows you have touch to steer or till to steer controls. You can also record and store three flight plans to make it route around obstacles automatically.

Griffin even offers downloadable accessories that you can print to give yourself something to fire at when you play. The Helo TC Assault helicopter is available right now for $59.99(USD).

I bet more than a few of you are fans of the game Portal and Portal 2. Besides GLaDOS, the Companion Cube, Wheatley and Cave Johnson, one of the most memorable things Chell had to deal with are those pesky turrets lying around the environment. ThinkGeek has a long and storied history of offering up some geeky collectibles and the latest looks like it came directly from Aperture Labs.

This inflatable Sentry Turret stands 40-inches tall. Apparently, that’s the height a real-life Portal turret would stand. This is about as close as you’ll come to a real bullet-firing turret today. Ok, not really, but I can’t wait to see if someone manages to graft an Airsoft gun to one of these things.

The inflatable Sentry Turret is available right now for $24.99(USD) over at ThinkGeek, and would make a perfect graduation gift for the geeks you know getting out of school this year. I think this would also make a really cool pool toy for the summer at the beach or pool. Or your cubicle.

I’ve been impressed by many LEGO creations in the past, but nothing beats the level of OMG WTF how did he do that as this Triport Spire. This is a science fiction themed LEGO build so incredibly detailed you can look at the photos for hours and not take in all it has to offer. The Spire is even big enough to house its own little LEGO flying ships.

The Spire has a lot of things that you don’t notice at first such as internal lighting powered by a 9V battery and a working elevator.

I wonder what all the pieces he used to build this actually came from. I assume the entire build uses LEGO, but some of the stuff so deftly worked into the overall structure that you can’t even tell it’s LEGO.

This thing looks more like a miniature made for a science fiction movie than a LEGO build a geek did at home. Check out the Flickr page of builder Tim Goddard (aka Rogue Bantha) to see more of his cool creations.

I bet a lot of you are like me and get a kick out of seeing the mashups geeks can whip up with a couple gadgets and some spare time. Thomas Sohmers has what might be one of the coolest combos I’ve seen in a long time. He took set of Epson Moverio BT-100 see-through video glasses and a Parrot AR.Drone flying toy and created the coolest first-person view control system yet.

Those video glasses have a see-through display that allows you to see whatever video you’re watching and the real world at the same time. Those glasses happen have a handheld controller that is based on Android, which is the key to this particular hack. Sohmers whipped up some sort of app that runs on the Android controller which allows him to see the video from either of the AR.Drone’s cameras and provide basics control over its flight.

I say “basic” because for now the Android controller will only operate the drone for altitude and for rotating the aim of the camera by spinning the flying toy. Sohmers is working on improving the app so it gives him full control over the flying toy. Check out the video above to see the control system in action.

I have one of those stainless steel refrigerators in my kitchen – which means it looks really cool on the front, but it also only holds magnets on its steel sides, so I miss out on some of the cool things you can stick to your fridge – like this tiny Fridge Rover.

They call this thing a kids toy, but any of us adult children would also enjoy having a little 1.75″ long vehicle that can drive up, down or sideways across our refrigerator doors for sure. Of course it doesn’t actually defy gravity – it simply uses small magnets to hold in place as the wind-up vehicle scurries along. Still, it’s pretty cool. And at just $4.99(USD), it’s pretty cheap too.

Head on over to ThinkGeek if you want one. Personally, if I had a fridge that actually held magnets, I’d buy a fleet of 10 of these. Or an actual anti-gravity fridge.

The brass paint, gauges and pipes are great touches, but otherwise I think this project still needs some work. There’s still too much of the original rifle peeking out. But that’s just me, and anyway I’m sure vanbangerburger can still tweak or build on his design if he wanted to. Like maybe make it shoot steam. Or punks. Or steamy punks.

Shopping cart races were one of the more wacky things that people used to do before all the stores made it so you couldn’t remove shopping carts from their parking lots. Now you can recreate that pastime in miniature, with these remote-controlled shopping carts.

These 1/19th scale R/C carts are perfect for racing around hardwood or tile floors, and even able to carry a small payload while carting around too. They’ll each hold up to 500g of cargo (that’s over a pound), which means you can load them up with some dollhouse sized groceries without a problem. Then you can have cart demolition derbies, and the last one with any groceries left in their cart wins.

They’re also great for messing with your cat, as is evidenced from the video clip below:

I’d fill mine with a bag of catnip and see what happens then.

You can grab either the blue or the red remote-controlled shopping carts (each operates on its own frequency) over at Amazon for $21 (USD) each – though you’ll spend another $18 on shipping to get each one shipped from Japan.

R/C cars can be fun, but if you accidentally crash yours into the swimming pool, it’s probably a goner. Not so with this one, which can not only run on dry land, but can drive in water or snow.

The Nikko VaporizR may look like an ordinary R/C car, but it’s got special wheels which help it float on water, and move along the surface sort of like an old paddleboat. You can even steer it once it’s in the water, though I can’t imagine that it’s the most precise watercraft. It’s also sealed to protect the electronics from water, of course.

It’s powered by a pair of motors, giving it true 4 wheel-drive traction when on land too. Top speed for the VaporizR is about 9 mph on land, but from the looks of the video clips, it definitely slows down on water.

Overall, it looks like a sturdy little ride, and fun to drive on any terrain. If you’d like one, you can find the Nikko VaporizR over at I Want One of Those for £39.99 (~$63 USD).

The Back to the Future trilogy had so many cool things in it, but one of the things that we remember most is from Back to the Future II. The hoverboard that Marty steals to flee from trouble.

We’ve previously featured a fan-made full-scale replica of the Hoverboard, but this board is actually being licensed by Mattel. So, will it or won’t it hover? That’s all you want to know right? Well, it won’t hover, but it will glide over most surfaces (whatever that means) and have sound effects.

MattyCollector says that they will take orders from March 1 to March 20, 2012 and it will be shipped around November/December 2012. They also said that this is a high-cost item, so there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production phase. If they don’t get the minimum number of orders, it won’t go into production and customers will not be charged. So geeks unite, and make it happen.
