This off-road vehicle looks kind of like a jet ski for land. It has two independently-powered caterpillar tracks, that make it look like a personal battle tank. The DTV Shredder can fly over almost any kind of terrain. Plus, you’ll probably scare the crap out of anyone seeing you coming.

The DTV Shredder has got a 18hp/200cc engine that provides good traction and helps it go up slopes as steep as 40 degrees. It can hit speeds up to 30mph. The top handlebars can be folded down so that the rig can be remote controlled or it can be hooked onto a trailer to haul up to 1,200 lbs of cargo (!). It comes as no surprise that the U.S. military is even looking at this ATV for their soldiers.

The treads will chew on anything, including snow, ice, sand, marsh, and mud. Here’s a video the guys at Engadget shot showing off the DTV Shredder in action:

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a very good golfer. If you take par, then multiply it by a factor of 1.5x, that’s about what I usually hit. So I guess I was pretty pleased to see that this little robotic golfer doesn’t play any better than I do.

CrabFu’s Putter Bot is a remote-controlled robot that’s designed to do just one thing – putt the ball.

Nope, it can’t hit a 200 yard tee shot, nor can it get out of a sand trap, but it should be able to gently tap the ball into the hole from a few club-lengths away.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Of course, that assumes that the person controlling the Putter Bot can actually aim. I counted 4 strokes on that last putt. Maybe with a little more practice, it could hit a proper two-putt.

(Sub)urban warfare has a new face, and it goes by the name of Paintball Panzer. The pint-sized tank has a turret-mounted paintball gun which lets you fire rounds of paint ammo while keeping you safe and sound from the tomatoes and eggs which may be thrown at you in return.

The Funtrak Mini Paintball Tank is a scaled down version of a real tank, featuring a motorized drive system, and a tread drive that lets you maneuver through the roughest backyard obstacles. It’s got a built-in roll cage and engine firewall, and is actually certified for use on the road — in the UK, that is — I have a funny feeling that they wouldn’t let one of these on the street here in the States.

Just like the real world, phony weapons comes at a hefty price. The Paintball Panzer will set you back £8,000 (about $14,400 USD). Each tank is custom built, so you might have to wait up to three months to get yours.

An Isreali defense manufacturer today revealed their new portable robot that’s capable of going into dangerous war zones and taking down enemies on its own (with the aid of a wireless remote control and built-in video camera). The VIPeR robot has an a full arsenal of weaponry on board, including an automatic pistol and grenade planting capabilities.

The robot’s maker, Elbit Systems, Ltd., claims that the rugged, dual-treaded robot can climb stairs and challenging surfaces like rubble without a problem. In addition to its fighting duties, the robot can be used for bomb detection and disposal.

I certainly wouldn’t want to run into one of these in a dark alley.

Autonomous Solutions has developed a robot, known as Chaos, specifically for use in hazardous situations too dangerous for human personnel. The robot has a unique 4-tread design that lets it maneuver through difficult environments.

According to Autonomous, Chaos is made for challenging jobs like explosive disposal, search and rescue, hauling gear and “other dull, dirty or dangerous tasks.” The robots self-correcting track system allow it to cover environments ranging from stairs, to gravel and rubble piles, to steep piles of debris.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Since the robot also may be used for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, it’s designed to produce virtually no motor or gear noise. The compact ‘bot weighs in at 120 pounds, and is designed for quick, modular repair and assembly in the field. The robot is designed to be able to carry additional payloads such as sensors and robotic arms.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Chaos is designed to be controlled by a remote operator using their customizable Mobi remote control unit. The remote is a sophisticated, tablet PC-based device, with interchangeable controllers, such as joysticks, switches or scroll wheels. It’s designed to handle adverse environmental conditions such as wind, rain, dust and extreme temperatures.
