LEGO Outs Ultimate Collector Series R2-D2 ((Nerdgasm Sounds))

A while back, we featured an awesome giant LEGO R2-D2 and a motorized LEGO R2-D2, but those were both custom builds. Isn’t it about time that R2-D2, the most famous droid from the Star Wars saga, got his own official LEGO set? Damn straight it is. R2′s time is now. LEGO has revealed the LEGO Ultimate Collector Series R2-D2 and it looks like a dream come true for Star Wars and LEGO fans.

That’s right. Very soon you will be able to buy a kit and make your very own R2-D2. And it is nicely designed. This awesome set consists of over 2,100 LEGO pieces and the little astromech droid even has a rotating head, a retractable third leg and tools.

When fully-assembled, R2 measures in at over 12″ tall and 7″ wide. Oh, and he even comes with his own commemorative plaque and an R2 minifig.

The LEGO R2-D2 set will cost you around $179.99(USD) when it goes on sale this May at shop.lego.com and at LEGO stores. Recorded hologram of Princess Leia not included. Not sure if it comes with a restraining bolt or not. Nerd dreams really do come true.

The Ultimate Million Dollar Speaker: Sign Me Up for Two!

Let me start out by saying that my entire 5.1 home theater sound system cost less than $1,000 bucks, so the thought of paying $1,000,000 for a single speaker is about as foreign a concept to me as Paris Hilton spending $325k on a dog house.

Still, if you have more money than god, you might want to check out Transmission Audio’s Ultimate, a gigantic speaker that houses an array of seven-foot tall panels loaded with an ungodly amount of speakers. Measuring in at nearly 19 feet wide, and loaded up with forty 15-inch subwoofers, twenty-four 8-inch woofers, and a boatload of 2-inch and 1-inch ribbon tweeters, it’s best to think of The Ultimate like a meta-speaker, rather than a single entity. That said, each one is still a designed for mono sound – so if you’re looking for stereo, be prepared to shell out a cool $2 million bones. And for a full 7.1 sound system, you’ll be looking at more than the GNP of some third-world countries.

Frequency response for the Ultimate is rated at an unreal 15Hz to 50kHz, and each system comes with a set of six 500-watt-per-channel dual mono amps, capable of cranking out a total of 6,000 ear-shattering watts of power. At full blast, the speakers can pump out an astounding 146dB SPL. That’s somewhere between “HUMAN BODY FEELS AS IF SOMEONE JUST FOOTBALL TACKLED YOUR CHEST” and “FORMULA 1 RACE CAR, 700 HORSEPOWER” on the decibel chart. Now that’s what I call a sonic boom. Just don’t come crying to me when your neighbors call the cops.

Xbox 360 Ultimate in the Works?

Is Microsoft getting ready to announce a new Xbox SKU? The guys over at Stuff.TV are reporting that the company is readying a new top-of-the-line console model called the Xbox 360 Ultimate.

Aimed squarely at Sony’s Playstation 3 high-end hardware features, the Ultimate console is rumored to include built-in HD-DVD playback, Wi-Fi, improved audio circuitry, a 65nm chipset, and a 320GB hard drive so you’ll have plenty of storage space for Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox IPTV service and other downloaded content. Perhaps my favorite part of the rumor is an improved cooling system that’ll allow for virtually silent operation — fan noise being one of my pet peeves with the current 360 series.

Stuff believes the Xbox 360 Ultimate will hit stores in Autumn 2008. Only time will tell if the rumors are true. Stay tuned.
