And now it’s spread on over to ads for winter clothing. Yes, you read that right: winter clothing. Moosejaw decided that they wanted to boost their sales by showing their models in their underwear. How? By releasing an X-ray app that worked with their Winter Catalog to do just that.

Just fire up the app and hover your device over the print catalog or digital catalog, and you can see the models in all their near-naked splendor.And it worked, too. Moosejaw has seen a 37% increase in sales from the same period in November of last year. At least they didn’t discriminate, and have both women and men in their undies.

Gary Wohlfeill, Creative Director at Moosejaw, explains the move: “Our goal at Moosejaw is to always create a unique and notable customer experience. Something that everyone who shops with us will want to tell ten friends about. The X-Ray catalog and X-Ray App are designed to create an incredibly cool, interactive and fun experience that breaks the barrier between our print and digital brand.”

These boxers are all based on DC Comics characters. You can get Batman, Green Lantern and The Flash themed undies, as well as The Joker – but he’s not a superhero, so what is he doing in your underwear? They won’t give you super-powers, they will just make you feel like they do. Unless, that is, you consider light or temperature-sensitive prints that only show up under your own body heat, or designs that reveal themselves after time to be super-powers.

The Flash version is probably the coolest, since you don’t want those tacky Joker colors on your junk and also probably don’t want a Batsignal tramp stamp behind you. You can check them all out here. We’ve seen Ted Baker’s more upscale Space Invaders undies before, but these boxers are a) cheaper, b) probably lower quality, and c) made to match with a necktie. I mean it actually says in the description “They are 100% cotton for maximum comfort, and coordinate with our Space Invaders silk tie.” Remind me again why you would need your underpants and your tie to match?
