Skyrim is pretty awesome, if you’re a big fan of the game and happen to like comedian Andy Richter too, you will want to check out this reel of what Andy claims is his Skyrim voiceover work.

They’re all pretty funny, the one at the beginning were the player is running through the city as the dragon burns things to the ground while Andy screams like a little girl is hilarious. However, my favorite, is the character sitting at the table and Andy is complaining that no one has brought him chips and salsa. Priceless. It makes me wish Andy did voiceover work on my copy. You can check out the video below to listen for yourself.

Unlike many games, Skyrim actually had some high-quality voice actors. In fact, much of the cast is made up of award-winning actors you may have seen on film. That said, I think I still like Andy’s version better.

If you are a fan of the Mass Effect franchise, an interview that surfaced recently will make you giddy with anticipation. The new Mass Effect 3 game is coming before you know it and the devs of the game are saying that the new title will delve deeper into the story than ever before, and that Commander Shepard will get more emotion.

I will admit that Shepard was rather robotic in past titles. According to an interview that is on YouTube, ME 3 will delve deeper into the story and go more in the direction of a movie stylistically. The new story won’t rule out new gamers to the franchise stepping into the game and understanding what is going on either.

Writer Mac Walters said, “In ME3 one of the big things we want to be able to do is to really deepen Shepard as a character. So you really get to express what your Shepard is feeling and going through throughout the war.” I think the Mass Effect franchise would make an awesome movie trilogy. I read a book set in the game universe and it was great. Mass Effect 3 ships March 6th, and is already up for pre-order.

The BBC has unveiled a short teaser trailer for the new game Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock. This news makes me nervous, since I can’t recall ever playing a good Doctor Who game. I know they have tried before, but it’s one of those properties that just never quite comes together right in game form. I’m thinking Star Trek too.

The game will arrive in early 2012 for Playstation 3, PS Vita and PC. Supermassive Games is the developer and all we really know is that the you can take on the role of Doctor and River Song as they explore the universe over multiple time periods.

I hold out some hope that this will be a great Doctor Who game, but I’m not holding my breath. However it turns out, you can be sure that it will have Daleks, a fez, several uses of the sonic screwdriver and River saying “Spoilers!” a few times.

I am a really big fan of the Hitman franchise of video games. I can say with certainty that this was the only third-person franchise I ever really liked. A new installment in the franchise is coming soon called Hitman Absolution. The game has a new mode made just for veterans of the series.

The special difficulty setting in the came rewards methodical stealth play. I never did well at being sneaky in the game. I always preferred to go in guns a blazing, which was against what the game was about, but nonetheless a ton of fun.

A new achievement for the game is in place called “Stealth Assassin” that rewards the sneaky and smarter play. I’ll just skip that mode and continue making a noisy mess when it hits the PC. Hitman Absolution is headed to the PC, Xbox, and PS3 soon.

Back in college, I had this friend who breathed, ate, and slept with nothing in mind but his video games. Counter Strike, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy - you name it, he’s played. He also failed classes regularly, but last I heard, he’s into his final semester at school already. Anyway, one thing my friend and I noticed about him was that he sometimes came to class on a certain day wearing the same clothes as he did yesterday.

Turns out, he was pulling a different kind of all-nighter, at the an Internet cafe located near the school, that is. I don’t think the Laundry Arcade Concept is targeted only to people who are like him, but I’m sure he’d be ecstatic with this design by Lee Wei Chen.

Basically, the Laundry Arcade works like this: you put your dirty stuff into the washing machine, insert some coins, and start playing. As long as you’re still alive in the game, your laundry will keep tumbling. When you run out of lives, you need to put it more coins to resume the game (and resume doing your laundry.)

I don’t think this will be a hit for those who are in a hurry to do their laundry, but it is a fun way to get the younger ones to do their laundry.

It’s been a while since I went down over to the local arcade, but I went crazy with the racing games the last time I was there. I’m a really bad driver, so crashing and veering off the road without any real consequences was a welcome change for me.

But more than that, I was really impressed with how much racing games have evolved to more interactive games. For example, the seat moved with each turn I made, and the whole chair would vibrate or lurch forward whenever I crashed into something (which happened pretty often.)

However, the OutRun AR project is totally in a league of its own, because it’s basically a video game that has been brought into the real world. This project of Garnet Hertz’s first made waves in 2009, and after a couple of years, he’s finally done with it.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Hertz, an informatics researcher from the University of California Irvin, made OutRun IRL a reality by incorporating the classic driving game into an electric golf cart that has been fitted with cameras and custom software that can roughly render what’s actually in front of you in using retro-style arcade graphics.

For the future, Hertz and his fellow researchers hope that their technology could somehow be used to create AR-based wheelchairs to help the disable and maybe even develop some video game-based therapy and remedies for disabled gamers.

It’s almost June and the wedding season is high up in the air. My sister and her longtime boyfriend of ten years just tied the knot a couple of weekends ago and I’m still weaning myself off the wedding bug (which makes me want to lie down in bed all day eating wedding cake. Pathetic, I know.)

But anyway, while at the reception, I overheard a conversation between some guests who were arguing about the state of marriages these days. The conversation ended with one of the women saying that she finds it puzzling as to why people still get married when a lot of them end up in messy divorces or prolonged separations.

So when I saw this Tetris Wedding cake, my thoughts went right back to those two women who were arguing the merits of marriage. I would love to have met or seen more of the wedding of the couple who decided that their wedding cake should pay homage to one of the greatest classical video games of all time. It seems like the couple went for a more literal take on the conversation that those women had at my sister’s wedding: puzzling but it’s not something you can’t figure out with time and a little practice.

The road to tying the knot can be long and arduous (as my sister’s was) or it can be quick like a whirlwind romance (like some of my other sister’s early twenty-something friends getting married after 2 or 3 months of knowing each other.) Whatever pushes people to finally take the plunge and make a lifetime commitment is, indeed, puzzling. But frankly, I don’t think that would matter much if you’re saying “I Do” (and not “I Do?”) to the person who you know you want to spend the rest of your life with.

Note bene: Excuse the writer for coming up with a sappier than usual blog post about a Tetris-inspired wedding cake. She blames it all, once more, on the wedding bug. *Achoo!*

I think that any 8-year-old knows that if they want to get onto the site for an “M” rated video game all they need to do is pick a random birthday that would make the fictitious owner 18 or older. Apparently, Crytek knows that your typical age verification test is easily foiled as well.

A screen shot turned up of an age verification test of a different sort. The test tells the user “To proceed, enter your age.” It then has a small image of a VHS tape and asks, “What is the image below.” A spot for the answer next to it. I’m not convinced this isn’t a Photoshop image at this point, but this is how age verification tests should be.

My son or daughter wouldn’t know what that tape is. Then again, I know some people that still rock the VCR and some video tapes for kid movies and those kids know what the tape is for sure. One thing that makes me think this might be a fake, or a trick question is that they say they legally need to confirm that you are 18 years or older.

Remember those plants that would rise from those green (or orange or gray) tunnels in the Super Mario video games and then hide back after a short interval of time? You know, the ones that can also shoot out some fireballs in some versions of the game?

The person behind these might call them the Piranha Circuit Board Keychain, but I see them more like Mario’s adversary who wouldn’t miss a chance to take a bite or burn him up whenever it gets the chance to.

So now do you see what I mean? Just plug the keychain into your USB port and watch the light at the top of the plant’s mouth light up.

It doesn’t really have any real use, per se. It’s more like one of those decorative things that you can carry around (and plug in) and have people come up to you and say, “Whoa, that is so cool!”

At least I think so. <del>You can get your hands on one of these at Boardaments’ shop on Etsy for $9.99.</del> Unfortunately, Boardaments‘ is all sold out of these but they do have some Piranha Plant USB earrings and necklaces in stock.

If you have been following the saga of the video game Duke Nukem Forever, it has spanned over a decade. Duke was a very popular character in the early games back in the 90′s, and then a long list of delays and promises unfulfilled relegated the game to the status of vaporware; and it pissed off a lot of fans along the way.

With the announcement that Duke Nukem Forever was back in development more recently most gamers didn’t expect much to really happen. Then things actually started to happen and shit got real with an official US launch date of May 3, 2011. Unfortunately developer of the game 2K has announced a delay. The good news is that this is the shortest delay in the franchise history according to 2K. The new launch date is June 14 in the US and June 10 internationally.

We have no explanation of why the game was delayed at this point. You can see a statement from Gearbox President Randy Pitchford above. If you believe there will be no further delays, you can pre-order Duke Nukem Forever over at Amazon.

I am not a golfer. I don’t play mini-golf, and I don’t play golf video games well either. I have tried my hand at Golden Tee and failed miserably on more than one occasion. But if you are a serious fan of the arcade classic Golden Tee, the latest competition from the company is set to kick off soon.

The company behind the game, Incredible Technologies, has been designing courses and updating the Golden Tee game since 1986. A new Design-a-Hole contest is running that lets fans of the game submit their own designs.

The company says that they get all sorts of submissions from bar napkin drawings to CAD designs and YouTube videos. Designer Jim Zielinski said, “I like holes that make players think and make choices. I want them to offer a risk/reward variance. It’s got to be challenging, but feasible. And, of course, fun.” If you win the content, they will include your hole in the 2012 version of the game, and the world premiere of the game will take place in your hometown at a local bar.

If you are like me and grew up in the 80′s, you spent lots of time in the arcade playing video games. The first game I ever played on the arcade was Pac-Man and I was hooked. I loved the cartoon that used to come on Saturday mornings, it looks like Pac-Man, and his ghostly pals are headed back to TV.

This time the arcade game is going to be the basis for a reality TV show. I’m not sure how they will pull that off. The show will be produced by Merv Griffin Entertainment and Namco Bandai Games has given its blessing it seems. The series is described as a “big, crazy Wipeout-type event with a lot of energy.”

I watch Wipeout with my kids, and it’s actually a funny show – plus that host chick from the Blade TV series is all kinds of hot (don’t tell my wife). There is no word on when the show might air, it’s apparently being shopped to networks right now.

There are a bunch of people really pissed at some hackers right now after the hackers wormed their way into a server that held medical records on 230,000 people. The servers that were compromised belong to Seacoast Radiology in New Hampshire.

The medical practice and administrators reportedly had no idea the server had been hacked until an admin noticed that the bandwidth of the server was low. On investigation, the admin found that hackers were running a multiplayer game of Call of Duty: Black Ops from the server.

The group called in an investigation team that somehow traced the source back to Scandinavia. Exactly how they traced it back is unknown. The breach was reported to the proper authorities. There is no word at this point on if the server was properly secured, or if there was some sort of dereliction of security practices that will see the medical practice sued into oblivion.

My son doesn’t know it yet, but he is getting Gran Turismo 5 for Christmas. I love this age, he likes the same games I do so a gift for him is really a gift for me. What I need now is a really nice racing wheel to use to play the game and this Porsche 911 GT2 wheel from Fanatec certainly fits the bill. The wheel is a licensed replica of the actual wheel from the Porsche GT2 car.

The wheel will work on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 game consoles and will connect to the Xbox with no wires. It needs a USB cable for the PC and PS3. The wheel has the Porsche crest on the center and has paddle shifters behind the wheel. The pedal set you see here is apparently optional.

The buttons on the wheel glow to change between Xbox and PS3 modes. You can connect the wheel to a table using the clamps that are included. Along with the pedal set a gear shifter and stand are optional. The wheel alone is $249.95. The wheel and the pedals is $499.95. Both can be found over at Fanatec’s web shop. I wonder if they are that much better than the Logitech G25 or G27.

A simple little game featuring a bouncing green ball on a laboratory oscilloscope is commonly thought of as one of the first ever video games, if not the first.

Brookhaven Lab engineer Willy Higinbotham’s Tennis for Two was less a game and more a demo of manipulating a bouncing ball on a scope, but it is seen as the forefather of all modern games which started with PONG and Space War. Now, thanks the to loving restoration work of Peter Takacs and a team at today’s Brookhaven Lab, the original game is being brought back from the dead.

The original 1958 demo unit was dismantled shortly after it was completed, and back in 1997, the Brookhaven engineers attempted to recreate the original, but used solid-state electronics to do it. The video below shows the first restoration attempt in action….

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

But in the interest of 100% accuracy, the team is working on a much more authentic version, replicating the electronics of the original. Thanks to the restoration of an old Donner analog computer, the fully restored version is nearly complete, and should be revealed very soon.

Last year we shared with you a bunch of laser-cut video game controller ornaments; technabob hoped that Dave aka Use Your Digits would make console versions as well – wish granted. Dave is now selling tiny versions of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, NES, SNES, N64, Xbox and the Xbox 360.

Just like the controllers – which by the way are still available – the ornaments are made from acrylic and come in a variety of colors: red, black, white and yellow.

The video game console ornaments are available at Etsy shop Use Your Digits and come in two bundles – packs of five cost $20 (USD), while packs of ten cost $35. Unfortunately for console fanboys, you can’t order five or ten of just one console.

When I was a kid I had a short attention span, and often left things half done. I took guitar lessons for a few months until I realized that you had to practice and couldn’t just play Funky Town day one. Shortly thereafter I was kicked out of lessons. Today I can rock out on Guitar Hero or Rock Band pretty well, and have often though I would really learn to play the guitar if the game had a real controller.

A music game called Power Gig: Rise of the Six String is available now on the Xbox and PS3 and the game uses a real controller like I have wanted. The developer of the game is Seven45 Studios and it has announced that a new and awesome handmade guitar controller is available for the game now that is made by First Act.

The controller is offered in versions for the PS3 and the Xbox. Each of them is made by hand with a single cutaway basswood body, humbucking pickup, and a maple neck with rosewood fretboard. If you have the game you can pre-order the controller now for $229.99 (USD) over at Amazon. The game even has some cool music with tracks from Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band, and Kid Rock among many other well known artists.

While the one-line description of Pixeljam’s Cream Wolf is “You drive an ice cream truck,” there’s something far more insidious going on in this quirky retro-style Flash game.

Basically, the objective of the game is to drive around your neighborhood in an ice cream truck, and take their orders for delicious ice cream cones. Later, you play Peter Piper and lure your customers back to your lair to turn them into new flavors of ice cream to serve to your next round of victims. I kid you not.

Here’s the official description of the game in case you don’t believe me:

“You are a werewolf. By day, you drive an ice cream truck around the local neighborhood, playing your tune and attracting a base of dedicated customers. By night, use that same tune to lure the addicted townsfolk back to your hideout so you can gobble them up, regurgitating them to make new ice cream flavors before heading to the next town to do it again.”

If you’re ready to be disturbed (or are already there), head on over to Adult Swim Games and play Cream Wolf now. I promise, you won’t be able to get that creepy music out of your head any time soon. And I don’t think I’ll be eating ice cream for a while.

With this fancy wii-mote, the question that is on the tip of my tongue is simply: who are you going to call? Answer: Ghostbusters!

This wii-mote is the work of Jack, and he really loves Ghostbusters. After having playing with his Ghostbusters video game, he set himself the task of transforming his wii-mote into a particle thrower.

The particle thrower connects to a matching proton pack! Now that’s pretty cool! For a minute there, I wasn’t sure if it was connected to something. Obviously it is!

Here’s how Jack describes his mod:

“The cyclotron features four blue LEDs allowing you to know which player is selected or active and the Blue Power Cell actually shows you how much power the pack has. The Thrower has been carefully designed in regards to ergonomics and function. The front of the wand has an area in which you can place the Wii-mote and the back handle is where the Nunchuck is placed. Since the Wii-mote has in internal speaker in it’s ABS housing, when playing the game the pack makes all the iconic Ghostbusters SFX.”
