If you have your eyes on a new Android tablet, but you don’t want to spend big money the new Vizio tablet should be on your list to check out. The tablet has a nice size 8-inch 1024×768 screen and a lot more at a price under $300. That is a bargain when you consider many tablets in the segment are $500 or more.

Vizio’s cool new tablet will soon be in “big box” retailers like Sam’s Club, Walmart, Costco, among other places. The tablet will work alone, but it is at its best when used with a Vizio home theater. The tablet can control your home theater using an integrated universal remote app and IR blaster. The device has 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, supports Android Market apps and has a built-in GPS that doesn’t require 3G or 4G connectivity.

The tablet even has three speakers so you can get stereo sound in portrait or landscape modes, and offers memory expansion up to 32GB via a MicroSD card. You can also shoot video content out to other devices using the integrated HDMI output. You should be able to find the Vizio tablet in stores very soon, and it’s already available over on Amazon.

If there’s one company that I was waiting for to make another LED LCD HDTV, it’s VIZIO. Their new ultra-widescreen 21:9 cinemawide HDTV supports up to 2,560 × 1,080 resolution.

The utlra-widescreen moniker means that these HDTVs can display native 2.35:1 CinemaScope movies without any black bars, which is really cool. Although this means that anything that’s not in 2.35:1 ratio will have some kind of bars, or the picture will have to be stretched. You can’t win them all.

Still, most blockbuster movies are released in this aspect ratio, so that’s not a problem unless you watch many TV shows. Even then, most of shows are shot in widescreen 16:9 formats these days, so the bars won’t be that big. The sets will also feature passive-lens 3D technology, built-in 802.11n WiFi and Vizio’s Internet App capabilities.

The HDTVs will come in 50-inch (XVT3D500CM) and 58-inch (XVT3D580CM) edge-lit LED models, and they’re showing off a prototype of a gigantic 71-inch model with local dimming at CES this weeek.

When we first started to hear about 3D TV in the home, I had an idea that the companies would be using active glasses not because they were better than passive, but because they could share more to users for the tech than they could for passive glasses. I have been waiting for a big brand to offer up a nice 3D TV that used passive glasses so I would be remotely interested in the set. Active glasses selling for hundreds of dollars per pair really make me mad.

Vizio has finally stepped up and offered a big screen 3D TV with lots of nice features that supports 1080p 3D and needs none of those expensive active 3D glasses to watch. I sort of expected Vizio to be among the first to do this and I was right. The new set is called the 65-inch Theater 3D Razor LED HDTV. The set supports full 1080p resolution and the passive glasses are said to be affordable and cause less eyestrain than active glasses.

The set has a dynamic contrast ratio of 1 million to 1 and has integrated Vizio internet apps. The set also supports SRS Labs sound and has lots of connectivity and other features. The set will hit Costco and Sam’s this month for $3,499 (USD), which is a good deal for a 65-inch 3D TV with these features.

Kid’s today are so lucky. When I was a kid, if you wanted to play a video game you had to have a bunch of wires and a giant console. Today, my kids have better graphics on a iPod than my Nintendo had. We had a TV when I was a kid that ran off the cigarette outlet in the car, but the thing was huge and had a black and white picture. Today kids get things like the new Vizio VMB070 7-inch portable TV for trips.

Vizio first showed this set off back during CES in January and you can now walk into Walmart and buy one. The set has a 7-inch screen that uses Razor LED edge lit tech for a better image. The TV has a resolution of 800 x 480 and a 500:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The little screen is rated for 250 nits brightness.

The antenna for the NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner is integrated into the design and folds down for portability, so you should be able to receive all your local digital stations over the air. There’s also a composite video input if you want to connect an external video source such as a DVD player or a video game system, as well as a USB port for viewing photos and using it as a digital picture frame. Too bad they didn’t include an HDMI port, though.

The set is less than an inch thick and has an internal battery good for 3.5 hours of use. The set will cost you $159.99(USD), and you can get one now over at the Vizio website.

You’ve got to hand it to Vizio. 10 years ago, these guys were barely a blip on the radar screen, and now they’re one of the dominant players in the television business. Now they’ve got a new TV that’s gonna have you running to the store to return that new set you just got for Christmas. The new XVT Pro Razor 580CD is the first television from Vizio to feature a 21:9 aspect ratio.

The 58″ set is an LED backlit LCD display, and is perfect for viewing 2.35:1 widescreen movies without those pesky black bars. The 80″ Razor LED will feature a whopping 2560×1080 resolution, and local dimming LED backlights for superior contrast ratios. The set also will sport built-in wireless HDMI, 802.11n WiFi and Vizio’s Internet App capabilities. The set will ship with a Bluetooth remote with a slide-out QWERTY keypad too.

I know, I know, last year I told you about a Philips 55″ 21:9 set, but it’s only available in Europe as far as I can tell, and it sells for over £4000 (about $6500 USD) and doesn’t have LED backlighting. And while the Vizio isn’t available in stores yet, Vizio promises the set will be released sometime later this year for sure, and given their typical bargain basement pricing, I bet it’ll be just a wee bit cheaper.

Shortly after hearing about HP’s Photosmart Premium with Web Touch, the world’s first printer to have its own apps, we now have Vizio announcing that their high end XVT (Extreme Vizio Technology, if you were wondering) line of LCD HDTVs will have their own internet apps as well. Yes, this is what HDTVs are for: Twitter and Facebook in 1080p. The internet-ready XVT line can connect via Ethernet or WiFi (802.11n dual-band), and will come with “a customized Bluetooth universal remote control with sliding QWERTY keyboard for easy thumb-typing.” Sweet.

Vizio has already confirmed the support of several content and service providers aside from Facebook and Twitter, such as eBay, Flickr, Netflix and Vudu. Currently, the only XVT series on sale is the 55″ VF550XVT LCD HDTV. You can order one at Amazon for $1899 (USD), or at Vizio’s online store for $2000.

The 42″ SV421XVT and 47″ SV471XVT HDTVs will be available in July for $1,200 and $1,500 respectively.

I was flipping through my latest Costco Member Passport book when I stumbled across something interesting. It looks like flat-panel display maker Vizio is about to launch a brand new 52-inch LCD set this Summer.

The coupon reveals that the set will be available for purchase starting on August 20th, and it’s simply listed as a ‘Vizio 52″ 1080p LCD HDTV (Item 200552)’.

Upon further research, there’s some discussion of a rumored set on the AVS Forum that seem to line up pretty closely with that release date as well. The model appears to be called the GV52L, and features a full 1920 x 1080 panel, with 4 HDMI inputs.

Knowing Vizio’s track record the television will be very well priced. If I had to guess, I’d say around $2100. Pricing isn’t confirmed, but Costco members will get an additional $200 off from August 20 through 26th if they have the coupon.

Scheduled to hit store shelves in February, the Vizio VM60P will feature a 60-inch diagonal panel running at WXGA resolution (1366×768). The display features all of the bells and whistles included in their 50-inch model, such as Faroudja DCDi video processing and color tweaking capabilities. The set also features a whopping four HDMI inputs and can accept 1080p signal sources (scaled down to the displays native resolution, though).

If you’re in the market for a large display and thought your only choices were RPTVs, you might want to wait a few weeks to check one out of these displays.

One of the best deals going in flat panel televisions has been from Vizio. Last year, I picked up one of their 50-inch plasma sets (1366×768 resolution) at Costco for around two grand, and have been duly impressed by the price-to-performance value on these sets.

Now, Vizio has let it slip that they will be releasing the GV47L (aka GV47FHDTV), a 47-inch LCD set running at a full 1080p native resolution for $1999. That price for any 47-inch LCD is quite good, but for true 1920×1080 clarity, it’s exceptional. (The current 46″ Vizio GV46L 720p model pictured above runs just $1699.99).

The company is targeting a release date prior to the Superbowl, so you might want to hold off on your big screen purchases until these hit the shelves. The sets should show up in the typical Vizio retailers such as Sam’s Club and Costco in the next few weeks.
