This handy gadget adds a complete digital sound system on the handlebars of your bicycle.

The Lavod Bikeman LFB-615 clips onto a sturdy mount on your bike, and lets you play your favorite digital tunes through its built in amp and directional speaker. Designed specifically for bike riders, the tubular sound system directs music right at your ears, and does away with the dangers of wearing headphones when biking.

The media player can play MP3 and WMA format files, and has 2GB of on-board storage for your tracks. The speaker is rated at 2.3 watts, and runs on a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack that lets you listen to up to 10 hours of music on a single charge. And when you need to juice back up, just connect it to your computer’s USB port or the included charger.

In addition to playing music, the durable water-resistant aluminum music player doubles as a flashlight – just in case you need to see where you’re going in the dark. A bright 1-watt white LED should provide plenty of illumination.

You can find the Bikeman MP3 Bike Speaker over at Lavod for $139 (USD).

With the warm weather season finally upon us (sorry Australian and New Zealand readers), you’re probably hoping to spend lots of time in the pool this Summer. But just because you’re floating around on an inflatable raft with a piña colada in hand doesn’t mean you have to be separated from your digital music collection.

This floating wireless speaker from Elima can connect to any Bluetooth device that supports A2DP or AVRCP for transmitting sound. And since it can receive transmissions from up to 10-meters (appx. 30 feet) away, you can set your iPhone or other compatible device over on the poolside table – or grab an underwater case and float the whole thing in the pool. The orb-shaped speaker measures about 6-inches in diameter, and features a pair of 2-watt speakers for stereo sound.

But unlike the guy in the picture above, I wouldn’t recommend floating this thing in the salt water ocean – otherwise, glowing pink musical notes could come flying out of it. Or worse yet…

If you can bear the thought of buying something that’s being marketed by mentioning how you can play Backstreet Boys music on it, head on over Chinavasion, and grab one for $40 (USD).

How many times have you accidentally taken your USB flash drive into the swimming pool, only to find all your data destroyed when you towel off? What’s that you say? None times? That’s alright, we’ve got an invention for you anyway.

Man Works Design’s K-95 waterproof USB flash storage device is a concept design in search of an actual need. Still, there’s something I kind of like about the clever submarine-shaped design of these flash drives.

Now all I need is that waterproof laptop to go with these, and I’ll be all set.

The rivalry between water and consumer electronics is one of the most legendary rivalries known to man. It’s right up there with Itchy & Scratchy, WOW & Life, Me & College. Recognizing the tragic state of affairs between two of man’s most beloved things, gadget manufacturer/ peacekeeper of non-living things Tokyoflash stepped in and gave us two gigantic candles that poop gray sludge.

Or at least, waterproof MP3 players that look like candles. Even though it looks like a monument in the picture, the player is actually pretty small, approximately 7 in. long and 3 in. wide, so you’ll easily find space for it in your bathroom or tub or pool. The pyramid-shaped thing at the bottom is actually the player’s speaker. The player has a USB port beneath its main body where you can plug-in a flash disk filled with your music. As you can see it also has an LED clock on its body, while the controls are located at the top. Tokyoflash says that it can run for up to 12 hours on 3 AA batteries.

If you’re a peace-loving, music-loving & hygiene-loving techie, you might want to buy this player at the Tokyoflash shop for $145 USD.

How many times have you said to yourself – Self… Why is it that I can’t take my iPod in the swimming pool with me? Well this new waterproof sound system from Japan’s Focal is the answer to your inner prayers.

The new AquaTune Nano 4G provides a durable waterproof case for your Nano 4G, while pumping sound out of a pair of high-output 1W speakers which can also handle the wet stuff. The polycarbonate shell is sealed with a watertight O-ring to keeps the H2O out, and your delicate electronics nice and dry.

Don’t have a Nano? Then the AquaTune v2 is right for you. While not as svelte as the Nano 4G, the V2 works with almost every non-touchscreen iPod model under the sun (and in the water), and ups the audio ante with a pair of 3W drivers.

They’re perfect for the beach, swimming, a rainy day, floating in the tub or to accompany your off-key singing in the shower.

No word on when the AquaTune will turn up stateside, but they’re available in Japan with the Nano 4G model selling for ¥10,800 (appx. $118 USD) and a rather pricey for ¥15,800 (appx. $173 USD) the V2.

Just weeks after I got my hands on my new light-up LED keyboard, now I’m drawn to a new keyboard that I think I need on my desk. The ubiquitous invaders from space have adorned many a product, and now you can think about those aliens every time you sit down at your computer to type a memo or surf the web.

Despite the overuse of the word “Board” in ElectroJoe’s Bendiboard Retroboard Invaders keyboards, they’re anything but boring. Not only does this keyboard feature pixelated images of the retro 8-bit invaders on all the keys, it’s completely flexible, so you can roll it up and throw it in your bag for easy travel.

And if you happen to spill a can or two of Red Bull or get your orange Cheetos dust all over it, you’ll be fine, since it’s sealed, dustproof and spill-proof. Pretty much anything you can throw at these aliens should just wipe easily off the keys.

As an added bonus, these invaders won’t eat any quarters no matter how many times you press the keys. Perfect for playing a game of Space Invaders on your PC, the keyboards are available now from UK gadget retailers BB-Shopping or 101Gear for £19.99 (appx. $39 USD).

Speaking of playing some Space Invaders on your PC…

This isn’t exactly high-tech, but it’s a strange enough gadget that I wanted to share it. It’s a waterproof radio for your shower that’s disguised as a shampoo bottle.

Sooo… what’s the rationale behind this product? The only thing I can think of is that it’s to prevent theft of your super awesome shower radio. But that doesn’t make sense because this thing looks really cheap. I mean, I have single bottles of real shampoo that probably cost more than a whole case of these things. Whatever the reason, this wins the prize for being the most pointless gadget I’ve come across lately. (OK, so realistically, maybe it’s a tie with the s’mores maker, but it’s definitely up there.)

The stats: it takes 3 AAA batteries and adds absolutely no value to your life or decor. It looks like it’s a wholesale item, so if you’d like to stock these in your (obviously somewhat craptastic) shop check out the deets on Alibaba.

RF System Lab’s RC-12 wireless mini cam can send video over distances as far as 30 meters away (about 98 feet). The tiny camera uses a 1/4-inch CMOS chip to capture full color images. The camera’s built-in rechargeable battery should give you about 45 minutes of video on a single charge. The minuscule camera can even capture images underwater when slipped into its included waterproof case. Video resolution is 0.27 megapixels (just about VGA).

While originally available only in Japan, you can now find the $269 RC-12 from the gadget importers over at CScout’s Japan Trend Shop.

If you’re into multi-tasking, specifically swimming and watching movies at the same time, have I got a gadget for you. This new digital media player can not only play your favorite vid clips, it can do it in the pool.

Coming soon from Chinavasion, this waterproof digital video player can handle being submerged in up to about 10-feet of water without skipping a beat. The earphones are also watertight, but only if you keep them in your ears (duh!) The player has a small 1.8-inch color display and comes with software to convert videos from MPEG, WMV, ASF formats. Audio playback is also supported in WAV, WMA and MP3 formats.

The player only ships with 1GB of memory, but since it can only muster 128 x 128 resolution, 15 frame-per-second playback, I think that would still hold a decent amount of video.

Here’s my recommended viewing list: Jaws, The Deep, Pirahna and Open Water.

But this shower control doesn’t change the water temperature. Instead, it controls the volume on a compact AM/FM radio.

The radio grips onto your shower walls with a suction cup back, and is fully waterproof. While you won’t get scalded with hot water from this thing, I take no responsibility if you turn it on and the latest song from Fergie is playing.

It’s available from Korea’s Funshop for 29,800 Korean Won (about $32 bucks.)

A couple of years back, GoPro introduced a compact wrist-worn digital camera which let you shoot photos while you participated in sporting activities.

The problem was that the original only shot really low resolution pics that didn’t look very good. I’m happy to report that the company has recently bumped the camera up to 3-megapixels, so it now takes some pretty good quality photos.

The $139 Digital Hero 3 straps onto your wrist (or directly onto your sports equipment) and can shoot not only still photos, but can also shoot full motion video (with sound) at 640×480 resolution. The quality of the video is more than acceptable for YouTube, or even playback on a small TV. Thanks to an SD memory card slot, you can shoot up to 54 minutes of video on a single 2GB card.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

It’s all packaged in a durable housing which can handle extreme movement and up to 100 feet of water, so you can even take it in the ocean or in a pool and shoot. Be sure to check out the sample pictures and videos over on the GoPro website.

The $500 Sanyo Xacti E1 isn’t designed to go deep-sea diving, but you can use it for scuba or wet weather days without a problem. The camcorder’s unique (and colorful) case design can handle a soaking for up to an hour, under five feet of water without a problem.

The E1’s solid-state recording technology can store up to 10 hours of VGA-resolution video on an 8GB SDHC memory card, and can also shoot still images at up to 6 megapixel resolution. It’s also got digital image stabilization, red eye removal and 5x digital zoom capabilities on board. The E1 can also snap 16:9 widescreen still photos, for optimal viewing on high-definition monitors.

The Xacti E1 should hit stores this June.

Unotron’s line of washable keyboards, mice and Smartcard readers can all be submerged under running water and cleaned with antibacterial cleansers. Designed primarily for environments where cleanliness is a must, like hospitals, schools and food-handling environments, all of their computer accessories are designed to prevent the invasion of dust and water, even when under high pressure. Prices are actually pretty reasonable, with wired and wireless keyboards ranging from about $50 up to $80, mice from $50 to $70 and Smartcard readers from $25 to $30.

If you have kids, or work in an environment where stuff just gets dirty, these accessories are definitely worth checking out.
