This might look like a real guitar and amplifier, but it’s actually an MP3 player. The uRock is a tiny little guitar that stores your MP3s along with a matching mini amp that’s lets you play back your tunes out loud.

Each uRock player is an incredibly detailed replica of a real guitar and amp, and includes a little guitar stand. They even throw in a carrying lanyard and a guitar pick so you can do a little air guitar while your music plays.

The player supports both MP3 and WMA format files, and can be recharged via a USB connection. At just 1GB, the uRock doesn’t have a ton of storage, but its fun design more than makes up for its storage shortcomings

So if there’s a rocker chick or dude in your life, you can pick up the set from The Gadget Box for £49.95 (appx. $102 USD).

In addition to flapping its yellow beak, the bird has blinking light-up eyeballs and an OLED belly that displays track and lyric information. If that’s not enough, the plastic avian also has an FM tuner, voice recorder and a built-in speaker. Too bad its little birdbrain only can hold 1GB of songs.

Importer ChinaGrabber sells these wingless birds for $32.99 each (in wholesale lots of 10+ only).

Who needs headphones when your MP3 player’s main feature is a big old speaker right smack dab in the middle of it? That’s what these digital music players from China are all about.

Lanhui’s LH-555 media players come in several bright colors, and have a retro sort of feel to them. On the front of each player is a rather substantial speaker for blasting out your tunes without your headphones on. Playback details are displayed on a bright OLED screen, with an especially chunky looking typeface for the track info. The players can handle MP3, WMA, ASF and WAV audio file formats and have 1GB of memory on board. There’s also a TF memory slot for additional storage. They didn’t leave out today’s requisite FM radio and voice recorder either.

Chinagrabber has these for sale (under the DigitalRise brand name) for just over $30 each. However, you’ll have to buy at least ten of them, since that’s based on a quantity purchase. Maybe you can buy some for your friends if they’re not already listening to yours?

A while back, I told you about a slick, self-contained DJ mixing system called the Pacemaker. At the time, the pocket-sized device looked too much like concept art to be for real.

Well, the good news is that the folks over at Digital-Lifestyles managed to get their hands on one for this exclusive video preview, and all I can say is “Wow.”

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The Pacemaker is for real, and it sure has some nifty tricks up its sleeve. The handheld system contains a 120GB hard drive, a color display and touch-sensitive controls for mixing and cueing all your tracks in real time. The company is also working on a free application which lets you create non-destructive edits and effects then download mix sequences to the player.

It’s not inexpensive, at 520€ (about $709 USD), but if you’re seriously into music, you can pre-order one now and be the first on your block to have one when it’s released this November.

With colors like bamboo, rattan, peony, persimmon and green onion, I thought I was looking at the paint swatches at the Home Depot.

While they may look purty, the Gigabeat U103 series doesn’t offer anything particularly earth-shattering in terms of features. The media players have 1GB of flash memory, a small OLED color display and can play MP3, WMA and WAV tunes. I do like that they have a built-in FM receiver with recording capability, as well as an FM transmitter for sending your audio to your radio, a feature sorely missing from Apple’s iPod line.

The U103 players go on sale today in Japan for ¥13,800 (about $113 USD.)

Available now from Brando, the $189 Meizu Mini Player looks like a pretty capable little media player. It’s got a nice aluminum alloy case and a 2.4-inch 320×240 color TFT display. Plus, there’s a nice amount of flash memory on board – 8GB.

There’s support for MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG and FLAC audio formats (though no AAC.) Video files can be played back in AVI format, and there’s even some sort of built in “game function” whatever that means. It’s also got some nice bonus features like an FM radio with recording capability, an audio recorder with a built-in microphone and a calculator.

And yes, even though the picture above is in Chinese, the player does support English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean language display.

This iPhone clone is for those of you who want to look like you have an iPhone, but can’t afford it (or don’t actually need any of it’s best features.) Beyond it’s strikingly similar looks, the player has very little in common with Apple’s device.

For starters, the FT4021 MP4 Player from China’s i-Fighting is only a media player. Sure, it has a touchscreen interface, but there’s no phone, no wireless access, no web browsing, no e-mail, and no other useful applications. It does play MP4, MP3, WMA and WAV files, and has an FM tuner, but so does every other cheapie media player these days.

Sure, the Shiro won’t win any prizes for storage capacity, maxing out at 1GB of memory, but it certainly gets my endorsement for its cool design. The player measures in at just under 2-inches in diameter and a slick OLED display. It supports WMA, WAV, MP3 formats and also has an FM tuner and voice recorder built in.

This upcoming gadget claims to put an entire professional DJ system in the palm of your hand. While early images of the Pacemaker look more like concept art than a final product, it does look like it will be a pretty cool device when it’s released this Fall.

Tonium’s Pacemaker looks like an MP3 player on some serious ‘roids. For starters, it’s got a huge 120GB hard drive, and supports just about every music format known to mankind. DJs will be able to play back tracks in MP3, VBR, AAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, OGG, FLAC and WAV formats.

Unlike typical MP3 players, the Pacemaker will feature touch-sensitive controls for crossfading between tracks. You’ll also be able to bend pitch, cue tracks, add sound effects and more. You’ll even be able to save your mixes for others to share. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, so check back for more details as we get closer to launch.

The Plezo PMG-250 media player features technology that lets it play classic (and not so classic) games from Sega MegaDrive, Nintendo NES and GameBoy Color consoles. The PMG-250 has a 2.5″ LCD color screen, with stereo speakers and a joypad for controlling games. In addition to its game playing prowess, it can play audio and video clips in a variety of formats, and has an SD slot for expandable storage.

The manufacturer doesn’t indicate if they’ll be selling games for download onto the system, or if they’ll just rely on the savvy of owners to find their own (under various rocks.)

Retail price for the PMG-250 player is KRW 169,000 (appx. $180 USD.)

The wrist player features a 1.8-inch widescreen color display (isn’t that an oxymoron like “jumbo shrimp?”) It’s got 2GB of flash memory on board, and can play MP4, MP3, WAV and WMA formats. There’s even an FM radio along for the ride. Oddly enough, even though you wear it on your wrist, it doesn’t look like the device can tell time (or at least that’s not in the specifications.)

A California auto accessories maker hopes to bring back that awful fad in a new, even more irritating way. Let me introduce you to Horntones, a device that lets you play MP3 or WAV files of your choice through your car horn.

Yes, you heard me right. Pretty soon, you’ll be driving along and instead of a nice little beep or honk, you’ll be subjected to the favorite song of the driver behind you. If the car behind you blasting “Fergilicious” at you isn’t enough to inspire a serious case of road rage, I don’t know what is.

For those of you with no human decency, you can pick up one of these for about $150 when they debut later this year. And no, I’m not gonna make it easy for you to purchase one by providing a link to the manufacturer’s website.

This places it head to head with other 30GB media players such as Apple’s iPod. The Zune features a couple of capabilities not present on the ubiquitous iPod including an FM tuner and wi-fi music sharing capabilities. In addition, the Zune marketplace will offer both pay-per-download songs for 79 Microsoft Points each (99 cents) and a $14.99 per month “unlimited” music download option. The Zune will also come preloaded with a handful of music videos and tracks, most of which will likely be disgarded by users. (That said, I’m happy to see one of my favorite bands, Grandaddy, has made the cut.)

While these could definitely be seen as advantages over Apple’s players, it’s way too soon to know if Zune will even make a dent in the market share of other digital music players.
