I don’t know about you, but Google has been my go-to search engine for the past few years now. It’s definitely one of the best search engines out there, if not the very best (in my opinion). Where else can you find a brand name that’s synonymous to online search? (Does “Can you Google this for me?” and “Just Google it.” sound familiar?)

That hasn’t stopped other search engines from popping up and trying to divert a small percentage of Google’s users to their own sites. The newest one making an entry is WireDoo, a search engine that rapper MC Hammer is looking to develop. Hammer announced the news at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco.

Hammer contends that he isn’t going to make just any regular search engine, but one that’s capable of “deep search.” And what, pray tell, is “deep search?”

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Well, Hammer explains the premise behind WireDoo by using an example: when a person searches for a car, he or she isn’t just interested about just a “car,” but will also be looking for more information on car models, specifications, and even zip codes for purchasing vehicles from local dealers.

Technically, it’s nothing new because you can just get your desired results from Google’s contextual search or add a few more keywords in the search bar. WireDoo is currently in its pre-beta testing stage, so you can head on over there if you want to sign up to test it.

As I spend much of my time trolling through a million-an-one RSS feeds for news stories, I find these clever feed icon coasters kind of amusing…

Created by the designers over at Meninos, the set includes the familiar icons for various web syndication formats like RSS & XML. Each set includes a whopping 16 coasters, so you can give one to every guest at your next party. Or maybe one for each of your blog subscribers.

Each coaster is handmade from MDF plywood and wrapped with a custom cut vinyl decal. They’re then backed with an anti-slip rubber backing and coated with a varnish to protect the finish.

You can grab a set of the RSS coasters over at the Meninos store for $60 (USD).

Mule Design came out with this Web 2.0/Kool-Aid mashup t-shirt. But why? Simply to express their enthusiasm for the state of the net by conflating Web 2.0 and delicious fruity powders that turn into refreshing beverages?

Nope. I’m pretty sure this is a highly niche geek product aimed at those of us who remember Steve Rubel’s much-cited blog post from last fall entitled The Web 2.0 World is Skunk Drunk on Its Own Kool-Aid. And Rubel, of course, was using the Jonestown massacre metaphor in his title. I could go on, but at this point it’s all getting much too meta for me.

Anyway, did you ever notice how Kool-Aid man has a crewcut made of ice cubes? I didn’t until just now. So: T-shirt! Kool-Aid! Web 2.0! Yaaaaaaay! Get one for $20 at Mule Design, and don’t worry, I don’t think anyone will get the reference.

Thanks to our friends over at Technorati, I’ve got my hands on a couple of full passes to next week’s Web 2.0 Expo to give away to two lucky Technabob readers. The show runs from April 22-25 in San Francisco, CA and is a great opportunity to learn about the latest Internet trends and technologies, and to interact with thousands of members of the community that is shaping the future of the Web.

Valued at up to $1,895 a piece, each pass will get you into the entire show, including:

All sessions (Wed – Fri)

Workshops on Tues, April 22

All keynote and plenary presentations

The Expo and all events held in the Expo

All conference networking events

Web2Open

Continental Breakfast & Lunch (Tues – Fri)

Here’s How to Enter:

Simply write a really clever or witty caption for the photo above (taken at a previous Web 2.0 Expo), and post it in the comments below. The best two entries (in my opinion) will win passes. That’s all you need to do. Be sure to provide a valid e-mail address so I can contact you if you are a winner.

Since the conference begins on Tuesday, April 22, and online registration ends this Friday at 5pm, this is going to be a very short contest. That said, entries must be submitted by 11:59pm Central time on Thursday, April 17th, 2008 to qualify. Each winning entry will receive a special code which can be redeemed for one full Web 2.0 Expo conference and workshop pass.

If you’re not able to get yourself to San Francisco for the conference, please don’t enter and let someone who can attend win and enjoy the show.
