Perfect for Portal fans (or if your name just happens to be Chell,) this 9 ounce handmade cube soap is guaranteed to help you solve puzzles in your bathroom – although it doesn’t come with a functional Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. Still, it should help to hold any buttons down that you might have in your bathroom – maybe the one that turns on the whirlpool would be a good start.

The Enrichment Center reminds you that you can purchase the Soapy Companion Cube over at Digitalsoaps’ Etsy shop for $23 (USD). GLaDOS insists that you buy one so that you can continue to test. Just don’t toss it into a fire when you’re done with it.

Companion Cube Cabinet Proves Portal Crafts Are Still Alive

Portal crafts will never die, and why should they? We’re all still deeply attached to our Weighted Companion Cubes (sniff)… so attached, in fact, that some of us build furniture in homage to our six-sided pals.

And there’s even cake… but I don’t know, something tells me it might be a lie. It’s just a feeling I get.

With obligatory cake jokes out of the way, I have to say the fake graffiti on the inside of the cabinet is what really makes this project for me. I love little details like that in games, so seeing it represented here is awesome.

The building process was pretty extensively detailed, in case you’re interested in forging your own Weighted Companion Cube. It’s nice to have something around that will never threaten to stab you.

Pair of Portal Ponies Pops Up

Just when you thought it was safe to surf the Internet again without running into custom Portal gear working to lure you back into your addiction to Valve’s hit game, the fandom rush has returned in pony form. My Little Pony form, that is. Ah, when two fandoms collide!

The My Little Ponies have enjoyed a wacky resurgence in the past several years, and that’s partially due to the custom ponies fad. As the above demonstrates, pony artists change hair, repaint eyes, and customize the pony’s body as well, and as with so many other crafts, video games are a popular theme.

That said, it’s still unusual to see not one, but two new Portal ponies this week!

While the first pony sprang from a more general inspiration with the game, this second is a clear homage to the Weighted Companion Cube, which I guess makes it the Weighted Companion Pony. Of course, the first one has the infamous cake (or does it?), so it would be a clear winner if we were talking about a pony vs. pony deathmatch of custom pony goodness. But since we’re not, you can enjoy them both.

Papercraft Xmas Tree is a Colorful Fire Hazard

There’s just something about most holiday decorations that screams fire hazard, but this one really takes that idea and runs with it. This Christmas tree, by deviantARTist Maire, is done up almost completely in papercraft. The few lone traditional ornaments look awfully forlorn (and seriously outnumbered).

The decorations are a real mix, from gaming icons like Mario, Link, and Mega Man, to upstarts like the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal, and they’re all made out of paper (and the sweat of effort). It’s enough to make one wary of the candy canes. Paper is not so delicious, after all.

For those brave enough to try to recreate this tree, or do a mix of your own ornaments, a number of the instructions are available on Maire’s page, and others on the cubeecraft site. Now we just need to add some of these papercraft consoles.
