Geneva Lab has just revealed their new Sound System XS, a portable/travel-sized speaker that looks like a retro clamshell alarm clock. This little guy is Bluetooth-compatible, so you’ll be able to send your tunes to it wirelessly.

The XS is also an FM radio and an alarm clock. The 2.1 speaker system has two 1″ tweeters and a 2¼” woofer, which is pretty good for a device of its size. The battery is rechargeable, and you’ll get 5 hours of play time.

If your media player doesn’t support Bluetooth or you just don’t want to waste battery, the XS also has a 3.5mm audio jack.

It weighs 1.1 pounds and measures 6.2″×4″×4.5″. The best part is the discrete LED display that shines through the speaker grille, along with the touch sensitive controls.

It will sell for $250 and is available for pre-order directly from Geneva Lab in black, white or red.

Color choices are great when it comes to gadgets. For too long the only colors you could get where black or perhaps grey or silver. You can get all sorts of smartphone colors today and one of the more popular is white. The white iPhone took forever to launch thanks to issues getting the white to look good and not discolor with use. Nokia has apparently had a similar issue and has just now unveiled the white version of the N9.

Nokia has announced the new glossy white N9 smartphone for Q4 2011, which means it will be coming in the next couple months for sure. The reason Nokia gives for the delay in launching the white smartphone is that the method of making the white phone is more complex than other colors. The white version is the only one with a glossy finish.

The other N9 colors are matte. I would suspect that means the white N9 will be more prone to smears and smudges. Along with the announcement of the white N9, Nokia has also announced that a software update will come for all N9 smartphones in Q4 2011. The update will add music control keys to the lock screen, the ability to close apps by swiping, and NFC tag reading capability.

A while back I told you about the new Misty Pink 3DS from Nintendo. Now it looks like the big N is unleashing another color, this time on the cool end of the spectrum, Ice White.

Isn’t ice usually clear? Snow is white. Just sounds like a breath mint flavor to me. Anyway, if you can’t wait to get your dirty fingerprints all over this one, it will be available in Japan on November 3 for 15,000 Yen (~$195 USD).

The other bit of news from Nintendo and Capcom is regarding the “Monster Hunter 3G Special Pack”, which Monster Hunter fans will go crazy about. It includes a 3DS in white that sports a special red graphic design and of course Monster Hunter 3G.

The Monster Hunter 3G Pack will be available in Japan on December 10 for ~$274(USD).

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that somewhere, some marketing company did some research and decided that people dig white gadgets, especially when they are issued in a “limited edition.” I’m not sure you can even could say the white Ricoh GR Digital IV camera is a limited edition considering 10,000 of them will be made.

Other than being white, both versions of the GR Digital IV are the same. The camera has a 28mm/F1.9 lens and uses the GR Engine III and a high sensitivity CCD. The image sensor is 10MP unit and the camera has a 3.0-inch rear LCD that has 1.23 million dots and is optimized for viewing outside. It also has a special, fast focusing system with 190 AF points.

It can focus in 0.2 seconds so you won’t miss a shot. The camera also features image stabilization and manual adjustments, and a bunch of scene modes as well to give you clear and vivid photos in just about any setting. Pricing is unknown at this time.

Japan has had a white PS3 since last year that gamers could pick up if they were tired of the old black one. Here in the US the black console is all we got to play with right out of the box, which was sort of a bummer. I would prefer a white console to black one. Sony has announced that the white PS3 is finally leaving Japan.

The bad thing is that the white version will not be coming to gamers in the States. The white PS3 will be coming to Europe and Asia though. If you live in one of those two areas, you will be able to get the new PS3 version this November. The console will have a 320GB HDD inside. It will also ship with a pair of white controllers.

It will cost you $448 AUD Down Under or €300/£250 in Europe. There is no word on if the white PS3 will ever come to the U.S. I wonder if the sale of gaming gear in the U.S. today is the reason Sony is skipping us. Things have been slow for most gaming firms.

In a world where even second graders are already multi-tasking, it’s really no wonder why people continue to invent and come with stuff with dual purposes.

Take, for example, one of the most basic objects that you can find in your home: the clock. Its primary use is obviously just to tell the time and ring out an alarm once a day to get you out of bed. But no, the Bacon Alarm Clock goes a step further by cooking you up some bacon by the way you wake up. The IQ Alarm Clock makes you hurdle through some trivia questions before you can shut the alarm up as a form of brain exercise.

But if you’re in the mood for something simpler and have decorated the rest of your home minimally, then the Poketo! Icon Clock is your perfect match. It has one simple purpose and one use alone: to tell you the time and nothing more. It takes its minimalist theme very seriously; it doesn’t even have the customary numbers printed on its face.

The Icon Clocks come in basic black and classic white and are made from ABS Resin with a diameter of 3.5 in. These simplistic time-tellers are available from Poketo! for $37 (USD).

I have owned watches over the years that have had no numbers, and I always end up telling people “it’s about 4pm” or whatever because without numbers it’s hard to get an exact time. A new clock for your wall has been unveiled in concept for that looks interesting.

Designed by Jay Jiwoong Baek, the Eclipsion clock has no numbers. The hour hand has a large solid circle on it, and the minute hand has a smaller hollow circle on it. The hour hand will eclipse that minute hand each time they pass, hence the name. The clock also has a red dot near the 12 o’clock hour. It’s an interesting design that is visually appealing for sure.

The big downside here is that if you are the sort that needs to know exactly what time it is, the approximate time might now cut it for you. The clock will apparently be produced by a company called Cauca at an undisclosed price. Once released, you’ll be able to get the Eclipsion in either black or white.

Apparently, the new white iPhones that are finally in stores after months and months of waiting are thicker than the black one. It was bad enough when the Verizon iPhone wouldn’t fit into cases made for the AT&T iPhone. People were confused and had to buy new cases.

Now the geeks who have been waiting for the white iPhone 4 and ran out to get the thing have found that the solution to the long-running manufacturing issues with the white iPhone appears to have been a thicker panel. Viewed up close, the white iPhone 4 is noticeably thicker than the black iPhone 4.

What that means is that cases that are really snug-fitting may not fit the white iPhone 4. I wonder if we will end up seeing cases that are designed for AT&T or Verizon and cases that are designed for the white or black iPhone. A MacRumors reader going by the handle Tipb notes the difference in thickness is 0.2mm, enough to prevent some slider cases from fitting and possibly keep designs other than some sliders from fitting too.

If I am to be honest, I have never understood why people have been so enamored of the white iPhone 4. I guess it’s mostly because they can’t have it. The white iPhone 3GS wasn’t any more lusted after by most geeks than the black version (and it actually showed scratches more). Still there are hoards of iPhone 4 fans that are frothing to get their hands on the white iPhone 4.

Apple’s Philip Schiller has confirmed on Twitter that the white iPhone 4 will be landing this spring. Schiller tweeted, “Hi Eric. The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!)” in response to a fan asking when it would be available.

I guess that Apple has finally resolved their issues with getting the white to match from different manufacturers. There have been some rumors circulating that the white iPhone 4 may be an AT&T exclusive. Naturally, those rumors are unconfirmed by AT&T and Apple at this point.

This is the same kid that Apple shut down later for selling the parts. Well, good ol’ Woz saw the parts in a post somewhere and had to turn his iPhone 4 into a white one anyway.

I would have thought that woz could have snapped his fingers and had a white iPhone in his hand in a day. Woz actually bought the parts for the white iPhone he flashed in an interview from that kid the company he helped start later shut down. I like Woz, but buying those parts seems like a big FU to pal Steve and Apple to me. Or at least to the Apple legal team.

I can just imagine “Woz going hey Steve, check this out” and whipping out the white iPhone 4. Woz later wrote CNN when the pub asked about the white iPhone 4 saying, “I saw a post and got in quick and ordered my set of parts.”

As it turns out Apple had some trouble getting the white parts to match between different vendors and the white iPhone 4 has been delayed a few times now.

If you have been holding out to get a white iPhone in your geeky little hands for the holidays, we have some bad news. Apple is now saying that the white iPhone 4 will not ship until spring of 2011. That is like 140 geek years, there is no way I am waiting.

Apple representative Trudy Miller said, “We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again.” The real question in my mind is come spring, will we see more delays?

Well, it turns out that Hello Kitty Darth Vader is a Photoshopped fake, made by Count Dookie for The Dented Helmet. He actually calls it the Sanrio Vader and I have to say that it’s not very scary.

On a related note, another member of The Dented Helmet has completed a real white Darth Vader costume. I don’t know what to think of that, to be honest. It’s not bad-looking, but it’s almost blasphemous.

I always thought that making speakers out of something as fragile as porcelain would be a bad idea. But these bulbous clay speakers look intriguing enough that I might be willing to risk breaking ‘em.

Korean design firm Studio Lim created these unique speakers called Sound Pots. The speakers feature an unusual control scheme: turn the knob on the back to turn on the MP3 player, then roll the speaker from side-to-side to control the volume.

The guys over at Moco Loco also offer up these slightly more obvious control suggestions: “set it on its side so the sound can flow out towards the listener”, and “set it face down to turn it off by blocking the sound.” Duh.

I have no idea if Studio Lim plans on ever selling Sound Pots, but if they do, I sure hope they pack them in plenty of bubble wrap and foam peanuts when they start shipping them.

At first glance, this looks like any ordinary old wall clock. But take another look, and you’ll see that there’s nothing ordinary about the way that it works.

You see, the hour markers around the perimeter of designer J.P.Meulendijks‘ Chasing Time clock gradually change positions as the minutes pass. It’s designed so every time you look up at the clock, it looks just a little bit different than the last time you looked at it.

At least the clock hands work the way you’d expect, so you can still tell what time it is – even if you are completely hypnotized by the outer moving bits. If you’re looking for something different to hang on your wall you can order the Chasing Time clock from Swedish design shop pid.se for $359 (USD).

Kibardin’s awesome idea is made even awesomer by the addition of a light sensor, which enables the digits function in an inverted manner, to display the time in white if the surrounding is dark, and in black if it’s bright.

Each digit is powered by a lithium-ion accumulator. The controls for the clock are touch-sensitive (although I don’t know where exactly they’re located).

Kibardin is currently looking for a manufacturer that will help make his brilliant idea make the leap from dream to $$$$ reality. More details can be found on Kibardin’s site.

The neo-modern design of this BrionVega desktop radio harkens back to a sixties’ Italian design aesthetic. Maybe that’s because it’s actually based on a radio the company actually made back in 1965 in Italy.

BrionVega’s RR227 is a modern-day update of Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper’s classic RR127 radio, which they created over 44 years ago. The updated model comes with AM and FM radio tuners, and the ability to play MP3 or WMA digital audio files. Just drop an SD card into the slot and connect your computer via USB to load it up with your tunes. There’s also an AUX jack for connecting your iPod or other media player too.

The RR227 features a unique design that lets you place it either horizontally or vertically and still make sense out of the tuning dial. The radio comes in white, black or red ABS plastic, making it both lightweight and sturdy. Sound is provided by a 3-watt amp, and there’s a headphone jack for listening to the radio in seclusion. While the radio comes with an AC power pack that probably won’t work in the U.S. without an adapter, you’ll be happy to know it runs on batteries too.

While I first found the RR227 over at French retailer Singulier for €199 (appx. $262 USD), you can also find them over on eBay Italy for around €150 (appx. $196 USD) with a little digging.

I don’t care if this lamp conjures up memories of my colonoscopy. It’s still cool.

The undulating twists and turns of Kundalini’s Abyss table lamp may look a bit like your intestinal tract, but there’s something about the bendy organic form that I find mesmerizing.

The Abyss can be adjusted into a variety of shapes, thanks to its flexible segmented construction. Hiding beneath its opalescent polycarbonate skin are a number of bright white LEDs which provide clean, green illumination.

Can’t get the image of my lower intestine out of your mind? Perhaps you’d prefer to think about the lamp as something a little less slimy – maybe a snake or an earthworm.

You can find the Abyss Lamp from Y Lighting for about $500.

If you’re a Technabob regular, you know I’m a sucker for cool modern watches. I don’t know why – maybe it’s that I got stuck wearing a dorky Casio calculator watch as a kid that makes me want to rebel in my old age.

Created by Italian architect/designer Denis Guidone, these watches work their magic thanks to their minimal modern design. From a stark planet-like orbital design to a set of super-skinny hairline hands radiating from the center of another, all three of his newest designs are really quite stunning.

Adding to the effect is the dramatic contrast between the pure white hands floating effortlessly over a pitch black backdrop. Each watch is then finished off with a simple black leather band.

There’s no word at this point on if or when these watches will be produced for the masses, but I wouldn’t complain if the artist decided to make up a few functional prototypes and send them my way.

Nope, this isn’t some crazy whitewall tire for your car. It’s actually a high-end wireless outdoor speaker which can be rolled around anywhere you want.

Designed by Ron Arad and Frances Pellisari for Austria’s Viteo, the Freewheeler produces high quality stereo sound indoors or out. The speaker measures in at about 22.8″ tall x 9.8″ wide, making it just about the same diameter as the tires on a Mazda MX-5 Miata (and about 2x as thick).

Just roll the Freewheeler around your house, and it’ll play your tunes remotely. Simply plug your audio source into the included transmitter, and a built-in FM receiver and rechargeable battery pack lets you wheel the mobile sound system up to 656 feet (200m) away from the base station.

A pair of coaxial speakers mounted inside the lacquered wood enclosure provide true stereo sound. Frequency response is 52 – 21,000 Hz, with a maximum output SPL of 112 dB. A single charge of the battery should give you about 8 hours of play time.

It all sounds really cool, no? Well here comes the bad part… The Freewheeler must be created solely for the uber wealthy. I’m hoping this price is a typo, but according to retailer MadeInDesign, the speaker sells for over $21,000 (USD), making it just about as expensive as that Miata I mentioned earlier, complete with four tires and a spare.

Looking for something a little different to set on your bedside table? This new alarm clock tears apart the hours, minutes and seconds and places them on individual time-telling blocks.

Seiji’s LED block alarm clock are interconnected using ribbon cables with enough slack in them to let you stack them pretty much any way you like.

You can even arrange the blocks into a vertical configuration, instead of the more typical horizontal orientation.

While they do seem a little derivative of Jonas Damon’s Open Edition LED clock, they’re just different enough to stand on their own. That said, I still prefer the less garish single color segmented LEDs on Damon’s original versus the red, white and blue dot matrix displays on these ones.

For the time being, you’ll have to admire these from afar anyway, as they’re currently only available in Japan.
