Noteboard Puts a Whiteboard in Your Pocket

Whiteboards are great for classes and brainstorming, but since they aren’t usually portable, they can’t really work everywhere – that is until now. The Noteboard is a portable whiteboard that can expand to let you brainstorm ideas almost anywhere.

When it’s unfolded, the Noteboard is approximately the size of 27 notecards. Once it’s completely collapsed, it can fit in your pocket. Robin Thomas, the creator of the Noteboard, states that it’s a great alternative to tablets and paper. It’s true that it can be useful, but if you’ve used whiteboards a bit, you know that you’re always left with a greasy residue and marks all over your hands from the pens. Still, it’s a cool idea.

Robin is currently sold out of Noteboards, but is raising funds to help create another batch. Stop on by his website if you’re interested in getting in on the action or if you’d like instructions on how you can make your own using simple materials including contact paper and note cards.

Erascan Concept Whiteboard Eraser Can Save While Deleting

We’ve become digital pack rats. We save even the crappiest pictures, bookmark articles we’re never going to read and hoard enough music and videos to last us several lifetimes. Why? Because we might need them someday. Because they might be sources of inspiration or reference. Because we can. So I’m not surprised that this oxymoron of a device exists. The Erascan is a whiteboard eraser that can save the very thing it’s meant to remove.

But just like our increasingly powerful mobile devices, the Erascan doesn’t just have two functions. It can also recognize the information it scans, such as handwriting, URLs or email addresses. You can also share and delete – for a second time! – the stored data from the Erascan itself.

There are already whiteboards that can save what’s scrawled on them (among other things), but a device like the Erascan is a bit more useful simply because it’s portable. Although if we’re going to make stuff up anyway why don’t we go wild and imagine an eraser that can un-erase – i.e. re-write or re-draw – whatever it erases?

anaPad iPad-Shaped Magnetic White Board Trains Kids To Use Tablets

Dozens of proud parents and relatives have uploaded videos of their babies using an iPad, so we know that their little brains can handle Apple’s tablet. But their little brains also occasionally come up with revolutionary ideas, like “I wonder what would happen if you dropped the iPad”, or “I bet that tablet tastes good – why don’t you give it a bite? Or at least drool on it.” Which is why if I had a kid I think I’d train it first on something like the anaPad.

The anaPad is a wooden magnetic whiteboard, so you don’t need an app to write or doodle on it. It even comes with an eraseable marker! It’s also easier to re-arrange its icons – just move the magnetic tiles around. You can even move the tiles off of the anaPad. Try doing that on your fancy iPad.

Robot Learns to Clean Whiteboard, Still Won’t Help If You Used a Sharpie

After teaching a robot to flip pancakes and shoot arrows, Dr. Petar Kormushev decided to instruct his robot in a new skill that could come in handy at your next meeting – cleaning whiteboards.

Dr. Kormushev, working with a team from the Italian Institute of Technology and Tokyo City University used a technique called “upper-body kinesthetic teaching,” to help this Fujitsu HOAP-2 humanoid robot learn the approppriate maneuvers to clean the marker-covered whiteboard surface.

On the surface (pun intended), the idea of a whiteboard-cleaning robot seems a bit silly. However, the process could someday be used to instruct robots to deal with tasks better left to ‘bots than humans – like window washing, painting walls or hanging wallpaper.

Taskwatch Magnetic White Board With Clock: Write on Time

When I first saw this gadget’s name I instantly wished that it referred to an industrious monster instead. Wouldn’t you rather hire a hardworking Yeti than buy a magnetic board with a clock on it? But actually the TaskWatch isn’t so bad. It’s a magnetic white board (Appx. 35″ w x 24″ h)with a clock on it: simple and practical. The clock is in the middle of the white board, so it’s perfect for planning your day. It comes in two versions, one with a whole clock face:

and one that only shows (normal) office hours:

You can order the TaskWatch at Art Lebedev Studio’s online store for approx. $240 (USD). If you ask me I think they should make a third version which has removable/readjustable hour- and minute markers, so if your office or project hours are erratic or not the usual 9-6 you can adjust the clock accordingly. And if you ask me one more time, I still want to work with a diligent Bigfoot.

Gui Magnets Are Sticky Little Helpers

GUIMagnets are small, flexible magnets with GUI objects on them that you can use for fun or to aid you in your website design.

Ostensibly they can be used to create a “website on a whiteboard” but that bit of copy should probably be changed to “website on a magnet board” because if you’re like me, you just tried sticking a magnet to a whiteboard as a test, and it fell on the floor.

Buy a set (41 magnets) for €20 (about $30) which is a crazy amount of money for magnets, OR buy 5 sets for €90 (about $180) because you have a tree that grows money in your living room, and a lot of refrigerators that need to be embellished. Then again, if you really are using them for work purposes, I guess you could try expensing them. Good luck explaining that one to the boss.
