Nintendo Dates Black Wii for U.S., Adds Free Wii Sports Resort and Motion Plus

Nintendo announced this morning that not only are they releasing the elusive black Wii in the United States on May 9th, but that they will also start bundling all sorts of bonus goodies with every Wii they sell.

While pricing will remain at $199.99 (USD) for the Wii, each console will now include Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus accessory in every box. That’s in addition to the already included Wii-mote, Nunchuk and Wii Sports in every package. If I’m doing my math right, that’s about a $40 bucks worth of extra schwag with every system. Not too shabby, if you ask me.

The bundle for both the original white Wii will also start showing up in stores on May 9th. Looks like now is a great time to get your hands on a Wii (pun intended) if you don’t have one already, are looking to pick up a gift, or if you just want all of the equipment in your rack to be black.

Wii Fit + Wii Sports + Ddr – Fun = Ifit Sports

I’m reasonably certain this game is not Wii Fit or Wii Sports. Actually, I’m sure of it. Apparently another cheap Chinese knock-off, the makers of ifit Sports want us to think it’s a combination Nintendo’s popular sports and workout games. Good luck with all that.

StarQ’s ifit Sports sells for 280 yuan (appx. $41 USD), and instead of a Balance Board, comes with a floor mat that’s more reminiscent of a Dance Dance Revolution controller than something for intended for fitness or sports games. Here’s a shot of the ifit controller compared to the just slightly more simple and compact Wii Balance Board.

For your first position, place your right foot on 2, your left foot on 26, your left hand on 8, and your right hand on 1 – GO! Actually, this thing might be better suited to a game of electronic Twister.

And while the system comes with 80 mini-games, most of them look about as exciting as watching paint dry. Activities include standing on one leg, standing on the other leg, and walking in place. Wow, how much fun is that?

Here’s some video of the slippy floormat controller getting all bunched up during gameplay. Looks like more fun than humans should be allowed to have.

And from the looks of this clip, there’s even a foot-powered version of Tetris. While I can’t read Chinese, I’m pretty sure it should be called Footris. Or Shitris.

If you really want one of these, you’ll probably need to make your way to China and dig around the schlock shops to get yours. Or not.

It’S a-Me, Your Best-(Sorta)-Selling Game Ever! Wii Sports!

Nintendo’s first money printing machine was Super Mario Bros., which sold 40 million units. What kind of game do you think could top that? A Zelda game? Pokemon? Another Mario game? It’s none of the above, because a certain bundled game called Wii Sports has now sold at least 42 million copies.

According to VGChartz, Wii Sportz achieved that in just over 2 years thanks to Nintendo’z marketing skillz. With over 45 million Wii consoles sold, Nintendo’s bundling of Wii Sports ensured that almost every customer who owns a Wii also has a copy of the game. VGChartz alzo remindz us that the game wasn’t given away for free with every purchase of the console: Wii Sports was offered alongside the Wii, same as Super Mario Bros. was offered with the NES.

For those too lazy to read the whole thing, here’s the summary: to have a game in the top 10 your company’s name must be “Nintendo”, and you must have bundled your video game with a console at some point.
