If you’ve got a bunch of spare network cable or wires lying around? Maybe you should try and make something constructive out of them, instead of letting them accumulate dust. How about a self-portrait? That’s just what Los Angeles artist Kasey McMahon did.

This piece is called Connected and it looks awesome. Apparently, she didn’t just use CAT5 cable, but a bunch of other cables as well. Of course, if she only used wire, they whole thing would have collapsed into a pile of spaghetti, so she had to cheat a little bit and include some steel structure under the cables to hold the sculpture in place.

What would you make if you had a bunch of spare cable lying around, and the artistic talent to pull something like this off?

I cannot wait for the wireless future. I don’t even have a lot of wired gadgets, but everyday I’m confronted with messy bundles of wires and cables, and when I’m out I regularly wrestle with my earphone cords. Digital Group Audio may not have a wireless solution for tangled earphone cords, but the cords of their Zipbuds in-ear earphones zip up and magnetically lock together, which makes it practically impossible for them to be entangled.

Unfortunately this solution also brings about a problem of its own, one that I also hope will be a thing of the past: jammed zippers.

I found this photo over on Flickr today, and I was so captivated, I had to mention it. Apparently, this guy decided to see what would happen if he hooked an old analog synthesizer up to his brain.

By connecting a biofeedback helmet to a 1970s E-mu matrix synth, the device should able to generate sounds just by thinking about them. Given the age of the synthesizer, I’m pretty sure that it ignores thoughts of anything besides Tangerine Dream or Wendy (Walter) Carlos.

Now comes the bad news. While it sure looks cool, it seems that Krischall’s image is actually just a good bit of Photoshoppery, based on this original image.
