This handy gadget adds a complete digital sound system on the handlebars of your bicycle.

The Lavod Bikeman LFB-615 clips onto a sturdy mount on your bike, and lets you play your favorite digital tunes through its built in amp and directional speaker. Designed specifically for bike riders, the tubular sound system directs music right at your ears, and does away with the dangers of wearing headphones when biking.

The media player can play MP3 and WMA format files, and has 2GB of on-board storage for your tracks. The speaker is rated at 2.3 watts, and runs on a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack that lets you listen to up to 10 hours of music on a single charge. And when you need to juice back up, just connect it to your computer’s USB port or the included charger.

In addition to playing music, the durable water-resistant aluminum music player doubles as a flashlight – just in case you need to see where you’re going in the dark. A bright 1-watt white LED should provide plenty of illumination.

I was making the regular rounds of my favorite Asian technology sites when I came across this intriguing hybrid of modern and classic technologies.

The Arch Audio T2 radio combines the warm analog sounds of a tube-based amplifier with the modern digital sounds of MP3 and WMA files. The radio features a beautiful retro-inspired case, but is timeless enough to blend into any 21st century decor.

Just plug your SD/MMC or USB flash drive into the front of the T2 radio and you’ll be listening to your latest digital tracks. If you’re feeling more analog, of course, there’s built-in AM and FM tuners, controlled by a nifty orange backlit manual dial to remind you of the olden days of radio. While the T2 has a beefy (for its size) 15-watt output and a ported MDF-construction speaker enclosure for some extra low-end, the downside is that it’s only got a single (two-way) speaker – so no stereo for you!

Arch Audio also includes a wireless remote that lets you adjust volume, bass and treble, change tracks and flip between inputs (and yes, there’s an AUX input too). This definitely isn’t your grandpa’s old Zenith.

While this unusual radio is made in China, and I discovered it over on a Korean website, the good news is that I managed to find a handful for sale over on eBay. At $339 (USD) they’re not cheap (especially since they sell for about $125 in Korea), but at least the guys selling them are including free shipping to the U.S. for that price. You’ll also need to keep in mind that the T2 runs on 220-volt power, so you’ll need ask the seller for a step-down adapter if you want to use one on 110-volts.

The neo-modern design of this BrionVega desktop radio harkens back to a sixties’ Italian design aesthetic. Maybe that’s because it’s actually based on a radio the company actually made back in 1965 in Italy.

BrionVega’s RR227 is a modern-day update of Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper’s classic RR127 radio, which they created over 44 years ago. The updated model comes with AM and FM radio tuners, and the ability to play MP3 or WMA digital audio files. Just drop an SD card into the slot and connect your computer via USB to load it up with your tunes. There’s also an AUX jack for connecting your iPod or other media player too.

The RR227 features a unique design that lets you place it either horizontally or vertically and still make sense out of the tuning dial. The radio comes in white, black or red ABS plastic, making it both lightweight and sturdy. Sound is provided by a 3-watt amp, and there’s a headphone jack for listening to the radio in seclusion. While the radio comes with an AC power pack that probably won’t work in the U.S. without an adapter, you’ll be happy to know it runs on batteries too.

While I first found the RR227 over at French retailer Singulier for €199 (appx. $262 USD), you can also find them over on eBay Italy for around €150 (appx. $196 USD) with a little digging.

The minuscule Titi MP3 Player by Floral Mobile definitely has its sights set on Apple’s iPod Shuffle, offering a simple control interface and no display. Each tiny player weighs in at just 10 grams, and measures about 1.18″ x 1.69″ x 0.35″, virtually the same size as the current Shuffle models and weighing about 30% less. Each player includes a color-matched set of ear buds.

Currently only available in Korea, a 1GB Titi media player retails for 39,000 KRW (about $41 USD). More information can be found over on The Earlyadopter’s World.

This new audio system from Denon is loaded with just about every feature you’d ever want in compact stereo. The Denon S-52 combines a radio, CD player, iPod Dock and wireless audio streaming in a single box.

With one of these, you’ll have no shortage of content for your listening pleasure. The radio can handle AM, FM and HD Radio broadcasts along with RDS track information (The European version supports DAB in place of HD Radio). The slot-loading CD player can play standard CDs as well as MP3 and WMA files stored on disc. But for those of us who store our music on our media players or computers, the S-52 takes care of that too. The system can handle audio files stored on your iPod or on any networked computer, and is adept with MP3, AAC, M4A and FLAC file formats. If that’s not enough, you can also tune in one of over 7000 internet streaming radio stations. And if your media player doesn’t happen to be an iPod, there’s a USB port and mini-audio jack for connecting your player. There’s even a dual clock radio on board, in case you want the ultimate bedside stereo.

While it won’t necessarily blow your eardrums, the system is well outfitted in the audio department for a device of its size. A pair of 2.75″ long-throw drivers provide the bulk of the sound, while a passive 3″ radiator on the bottom of the unit helps out on the low end of things. The speakers are backed by 20-watts of amplification and robust digital signal processing and equalization capabilities. If want some extra boom, you can hook up an external subwoofer, thanks to a pre-amp output.

The Denon S-52 is coming to North America later this winter for about $699. Electronics retailer J&R is accepting pre-orders now.

I’ll start out by saying this. Steve Jobs and company will no longer like you if you buy one of these. But for those of you who are too stingy to drop $149 to $199 on a real iPod Nano, here’s a cheap Chinese knock-off that’s a dead ringer for Apple’s chunky little 3rd-generation media player.

The DigitalRise Nano III even goes so far as to steal part of its name from Apple’s popular player. As you’d expect, the cloned Nanos can handle MPEG-4 video, MP3 and WMA audio file formats. They also throw in an FM tuner, digital voice recorder, and e-book reader capabilities.

Unlike the real deal, the DigitalRise players only offer 1GB of storage (vs. Apple’s 4 to 8 gigs), and a 1.8″ color screen instead of the 2″ screen on Apple’s players. While the colors aren’t exactly the same, the fakes do offer an “all-metal” case, doing their best to look like the authentic ones.

At this point, they’re available in lots of 10 or more for just $49.95 each. So if you and 9 of your cheap-ass friends are looking for some stocking stuffers for the upcoming holidays, you can grab a case of ‘em from ChinaGrabber.

In addition to flapping its yellow beak, the bird has blinking light-up eyeballs and an OLED belly that displays track and lyric information. If that’s not enough, the plastic avian also has an FM tuner, voice recorder and a built-in speaker. Too bad its little birdbrain only can hold 1GB of songs.

Importer ChinaGrabber sells these wingless birds for $32.99 each (in wholesale lots of 10+ only).

This compact media player from Korea’s Savit Micro lets you carry an entire HD video source in the palm of your hand. The Cinedisk CD26HD is just a little larger than a typical media player, and offers high definition playback at up to 1080i resolution.

At the heart of the compact box is a 120GB 2.5-inch hard drive, capable of storing many hours of HD content in MPEG 2, WMV9HD, or DiVX formats. The tiny box has outputs for component video and coax digital audio, but doesn’t offer HDMI at this point. Regardless, those outputs should satisfy most of us with a high-def craving.

It’s even got AC3 and DTS audio processing circuitry, so you can have full surround sound if you hook it up your amplifier’s digital input. In addition to its video playback capabilities, it’s also a full-fledged audio server, with playback of MP3, WMA and OGG format sound files.

As is typically the case with these cool Korean gadgets, you’ll probably have a tough time finding one outside of the region. If you’re willing to deal with the overseas shipping you can find these for about 219,900 KRW (about $235 USD.)

Why is it that Korea seems to be getting all the coolest gadgets these days? They’re calling the Atree UM10 a pocket dictionary, but I see a whole lot more.

Beside looking great, the UM10 is a very capable media player, which can deftly chew through MP4, WMV, MP3, WMA and OGG files with nary a complaint. There’s also a DMB television tuner, FM radio, E-book reader and voice recorder. Not to mention the full-on personal organizer application suite which can sync with Microsoft Outlook. Plus, it’s also got Flash Lite support, so you can take advantage of those slick interfaces and games that Adobe’s flagship web app can crank out.

Oh yeah, it is a robust electronic dictionary too, loaded with dozens of books worth of definitions, synonyms, and other reference information in a variety of languages.

It all comes packaged in a slick black case, with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and beautiful 480 x 272 widescreen TFT display. The keyboard isn’t tactile though, so you’re best off using the stylus to control it. The base models comes with 2GB of RAM, but that’s expandable through a Micro SD memory card slot.

The Atree UM10 retails for 358,000 KRW (about $381 USD), and as is often the case with these types of wondrous gadget, is only available in Korea for now.

Who needs headphones when your MP3 player’s main feature is a big old speaker right smack dab in the middle of it? That’s what these digital music players from China are all about.

Lanhui’s LH-555 media players come in several bright colors, and have a retro sort of feel to them. On the front of each player is a rather substantial speaker for blasting out your tunes without your headphones on. Playback details are displayed on a bright OLED screen, with an especially chunky looking typeface for the track info. The players can handle MP3, WMA, ASF and WAV audio file formats and have 1GB of memory on board. There’s also a TF memory slot for additional storage. They didn’t leave out today’s requisite FM radio and voice recorder either.

Chinagrabber has these for sale (under the DigitalRise brand name) for just over $30 each. However, you’ll have to buy at least ten of them, since that’s based on a quantity purchase. Maybe you can buy some for your friends if they’re not already listening to yours?

From the separated at birth file comes this digital video recorder from China’s Magnetox, which looks more than a little like Apple’s Mac Mini computers.

The Magnetox V120 features the same white and aluminum accented case design as Apple’s popular compact computer. But the Magnetox V120 is a dedicated media recorder/player designed for use in your living room, so it has more in common with the AppleTV than the Mac Mini.

The little box features hardware MPEG4 playback and recording, and can automatically convert recorded video for playback on your TV, PC, iPod, PSP, GameBoy Micro or mobile phone. To keep its svelte profile, there’s no storage device built-in. Instead you can either record to an SDHC card or to an add-on IDE hard drive if you pick up the matching B200 USB hard drive enclosure.

Similar to the AppleTV, the device can only handle standard definition content, but unlike Apple’s device, the V120 can actually record television programs thanks to a built-in tuner. It’s not clear to me if this is a traditional UHF/VHF/CATV or a digital tuner though. I’d gamble that it’s of the analog ilk. There’s some date and time based scheduling capabilities, but no program guide, which is unfortunate.

Since the V120 is a full-fledged media player it can handle audio playback in MP3, WAV, WMA and AAC formats. There’s also a photo album viewer for JPG, PNG or GIF images.

You can find the Magnetox V120 from Hong Kong exporter GoldenShop for just $179 USD. Be sure to specify whether you want the NTSC or PAL version.

A while back, I told you about a slick, self-contained DJ mixing system called the Pacemaker. At the time, the pocket-sized device looked too much like concept art to be for real.

Well, the good news is that the folks over at Digital-Lifestyles managed to get their hands on one for this exclusive video preview, and all I can say is “Wow.”

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The Pacemaker is for real, and it sure has some nifty tricks up its sleeve. The handheld system contains a 120GB hard drive, a color display and touch-sensitive controls for mixing and cueing all your tracks in real time. The company is also working on a free application which lets you create non-destructive edits and effects then download mix sequences to the player.

It’s not inexpensive, at 520€ (about $709 USD), but if you’re seriously into music, you can pre-order one now and be the first on your block to have one when it’s released this November.

Here’s a unique digital media player from Japan’s Victor/JVC. It’s a completely self-contained waterproof audio system that can float in your tub.

When Victor’s XA-AQ33-W media player isn’t swimming around the bathtub with you, it can head to dry dock in a stand that sits on your bedside table. The player does its job to play up to 256MB of MP3 and WMA music through a built-in amplified speaker. It’s also got LED illumination underneath, producing a cool glow of blue light. There’s even a handful of pre-installed “relaxation tunes” to help you chill out.

The player runs on batteries, so you can even take it out to the pool if you’d like (not that I’d ever use something that plugs into an outlet in the tub). You should get about 15 hours of play on a single set of batteries.

The whole thing looks a bit spacecraft-like to me, making it perfect for that outer-space themed room I know you’re just dying to decorate.

The Pico Wi-Fi not only hooks up to your Internet connection wirelessly, it’s got a built-in rechargeable battery. That means you can take it pretty much anywhere within range of your Wi-Fi access point and enjoy all of those ‘net radio stations without any cords attached. One nice feature is integration with Reciva which automatically downloads a list of the latest stations to the device so you’re always up-to-date.

The Pico can also stream MP3, WMA and Real Media files from your networked PC or Mac. If you’d rather go “old school,” it’s even got an FM tuner so you can listen to analog radio stations too. The Pico Wi-Fi Radio is available from Revo UK for £149.95 (appx. $304 USD.)

With colors like bamboo, rattan, peony, persimmon and green onion, I thought I was looking at the paint swatches at the Home Depot.

While they may look purty, the Gigabeat U103 series doesn’t offer anything particularly earth-shattering in terms of features. The media players have 1GB of flash memory, a small OLED color display and can play MP3, WMA and WAV tunes. I do like that they have a built-in FM receiver with recording capability, as well as an FM transmitter for sending your audio to your radio, a feature sorely missing from Apple’s iPod line.

The U103 players go on sale today in Japan for ¥13,800 (about $113 USD.)

Meizu, best known for their ridiculously copycat media players has released a new player that actually looks pretty decent. Surprisingly, it doesn’t derive too many of its looks from other manufacturer’s players either.

Available now from Brando, the $189 Meizu Mini Player looks like a pretty capable little media player. It’s got a nice aluminum alloy case and a 2.4-inch 320×240 color TFT display. Plus, there’s a nice amount of flash memory on board – 8GB.

There’s support for MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG and FLAC audio formats (though no AAC.) Video files can be played back in AVI format, and there’s even some sort of built in “game function” whatever that means. It’s also got some nice bonus features like an FM radio with recording capability, an audio recorder with a built-in microphone and a calculator.

And yes, even though the picture above is in Chinese, the player does support English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean language display.

Panasonic Japan’s recent entry into the e-book market is looking pretty nice. Unlike E-Ink based displays, the WordsGear can display full color images.

The WordsGear offers an amazingly sharp 5.6-inch TFT display with a 1024×600 pixel resolution (that’s about 211 pixels per inch.) This means reading small type should be no problem, and easy on the eyes. Thanks to a special touch sensitive grip, it’s designed to be controlled with a single hand, so you can even use it while standing up on the train or bus.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Since the display isn’t one of those electrostatic ones, it can also handle moving images, and cam play MPEG4 video clips. There’s also AAC and WMA audio playback, and you can listen to your tunes while reading. Content is stored on SD cards, providing plenty of expandability. The rechargeable battery should give you about 6 hours of reading on a single charge.

There’s a huge catalog of e-books for the device (all in Japanese, though) available from Saidoku. From what I can tell, you can load up your own PDF documents so you won’t be limited to Japanese content.

The Wordsgear can be ordered from gadget importer Dynamism for $479 (which is a significant premium over the price in Japan, which works out to about $350.) I’m hoping Panasonic will decide to make an English language version at some point, but I’m not holding my breath.

Just a few short weeks after announcing their ZEN Stone mini music player, Creative today rolled out a higher-end model, the ZEN Stone Plus.

The new model takes all of the features of the original ZEN Stone and adds a bright blue round OLED display for song title and other pertinent information. In addition, the Plus bumps the memory up to 2GB vs. the 1GB that’s in the first model. The Plus also adds a voice recorder, clock, stopwatch and FM tuner which weren’t in the original Stone. Battery life is just a tiny bit shorter at 9.5 hours vs. the 10 hours of the original, but that’s to be expected whenever you add a display.

Now all these features do bump up the cost a little bit. While the 1GB ZEN Stone costs just $39, the 2GB ZEN Stone Plus is expected to run about $65 when it’s released later this Summer.
