Fitness@Work Office Chair Concept Lets You Get a Workout While You’re Working

We all know that sitting down for long hours in front of your computer isn’t that good for you, which is why Benjamin Cselley came up with this chair concept, that doubles as an exercise machine. It comes with built-in resistance handles and footrests to help stretch out your muscles.

The Fitness@Work chair has an expanding base that will provide added extra stability when you are working out on it. You can lift the backrest to do horizontal exercises with your legs and feet, thanks to the spring-resisted foot stirrups. The bottom cushion rotates when unlocked for twisting maneuvers.

This isn’t bad as a workout concept, but it’s still better to stand up instead of sitting down all the time. This chair definitely looks more versatile and sophisticated than the already-on-the-market Gymygym workout chair. For now, the Fitness@Work chair is just a concept, but since there aren’t any overly futuristic ideas implemented into it, it should be possible to make it with existing technology.

I like my job most days, I don’t have to wear pants, I can get all the drinks and snacks I want, and I don’t have to worry that someone will catch me watching the occasional YouTube video on the job. The downside is I have a crazy schedule and can’t find much time to do anything away from my desk during the day. I bet that many people with “normal” office jobs are the same way. Hammacher Schlemmer has a weird desk that uses exercise technology to let you stay in shape while chained to your desk.

The product is called the Elliptical Machine Office Desk. The desk includes a semi-recumbent elliptical machine with electronic resistance control. The little screen with the curved top you see on the left in the photos is the control panel for that exercise gear. It will operate at slow speeds so you can concentrate and the screen keeps up with the RPM, calories burned, and distance ridden for up to 30 different people.

The desk is cool too with a height adjustment to accommodate people up to 6’9″ and fit that elliptical underneath. It also has a rail system for mounting your computer LCD. The big downside is that the desk and exercise gear costs $8,000 (USD) plus a $450 shipping fee. The upside is that for those of us that are lazy the price is yet another excuse to skip exercising.

So now that the new year has passed, are you finally carrying out your resolution to get in shape by playing Wii Fit? Well just because you’re gonna spend countless hours standing on that Balance Board doesn’t mean that your feet have to hurt afterward.

Thanks to these cushy silicone covers for the Wii Fit Balance Board, your tootsies will get a serious massage while you get your workout.

Just slide this form-fitting silicone cover over your Balance Board, take off your shoes, and enjoy the massaging acupressure dots under your feet. As an added bonus, the bumpy silicone surface should reduce the chance that you’ll slip and fly off of your board as you do your exercise routine. (Although it won’t prevent you from throwing the Wii-mote at the cat.)

You can get your hands erm, feet on one of these over on Amazon for just $9.99 (USD). You feet will thank you.

If you’ve played the Nintendo Wii for any reasonable amount of time, you know that you can actually work up a pretty decent sweat while playing some games. Now you can really get a workout by adding these Wii Weights to your wrists.

These Wii wrist weights feature adjustable inserts, ranging from 1lb. to 4lbs. and help you burn extra calories and build up your strength whether your frying up some eggs in Cooking Mama or you’re prancing around on your pretty pony in Zelda.

I suppose we should be glad that these are only a design prototype and not actually being made. I can only imagine the damage you could do to your brand new 60″ plasma set when one of these went flying off.
