I seriously want to see how one plays as the undead. Plants vs. Zombies will be available on XBLA this September for 1200 MS points ($15 USD).

For those not familiar with the game, it’s this simple: ideally, it should reflect the respective skills of these warriors, but I don’t think the battles will be that realistic, otherwise the Pirate will have an unfair advantage because he has a pistol. Or maybe not. You’ve seen the Samurai, above, so here are the rest of the warriors – the Apache, Centurion, Knight, Ninja, Pirate, Spartan and Viking:

Update: It turns out that the game will also be released on the PSN, albeit at a later time. Nice! I hope the game is worth $10.

As fans of the comic can see, the game’s graphics are very similar to O’ Malley’s art. Astute citizens of the Internet will also be familiar with the graphics –  Paul Robertson, who made Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight and Kings of Power 4 Billion%, is supervising the art direction for the game.

Although it should come as no surprise, the game seems to be targeted towards people who’ve already read the comic book. There will be four playable characters, Scott Pilgrim, his girlfriend, and Scott’s bandmates. Each character has a unique set of moves, which can be augmented by leveling them up and by buying stuff at “Rivery City Ransom-esque” shops. It’s not all brawling either; one sequence of the game involved a “Guitar Hero-style bass-off”.  Ubisoft also promises lots of unlockable content, like characters, modes and levels, so all in all this game should have quite a bit of replay value.

Check out Game Informer for the full article. I really don’t get why this is a timed exclusive though – the interest for the game will be at its peak in August, when the movie is released. Why risk losing buyers by releasing the Xbox version later? Or will this game be enough for Scott Pilgrim fans who don’t already have a PS3 to give in and get one?

I don’t think I would last long playing this game though; the bright colors and the ever-changing planes would make me barf. But that’s a point against me, not for ilomilo.

As I’m sure some of you will remember, Earthworm Jim first came out in 1994.  This remake not only upgrades the game’s cartoony graphics, it also has additional levels, and even four-player coop action.

Four ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit-wearing worms? Queen Slug-for-a-Butt won’t know what hit her slug butt. Follow Jim on twitter for more details. Yep, that’s how awesome he is – a worm that tweets.

This is a port of the original game for the Nintendo 64 that came out in 2000. The game will receive updated graphics and will be released in March. It will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD).

Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I really love my Xbox 360. There are so many great games on XBLA, like Geometry Wars, and others. But what also like is the re-releases and updates of old school games. It appeals to the retro gamer in me. I have to confess that it took at least a week of playing Geometry Wars non-stop before I opened my other normal games when the Xbox 360 was launched.

Hydrophobia is already unique in many ways–the waterlogged survival game apparently features unbelievable water physics (which, after seeing pictures, is totally believable). If you don’t believe me, here’s a little footage dug up from an early prototype, showing off the game’s water engine:

Now something interesting is being done with the Xbox 360 release, as well. The game will be available as DLC from the Xbox Live Marketplace in the form of three separate episodes… or on a retail disc to be released later. This is in addition to its availability for PS3 and PC. Apparently, they want to make sure everyone in the world can play this game, without any excuses to bar the purchase.

But, considering the concept, that may not be a bad approach. Hydrophobia‘s main character is an engineer with a fear of water who is stuck on a sinking ship–and has to help others escape. It’s a whole new brand of “horror” for the survival game genre, and one that sounds as interesting as its release format.

Things are simple here. You’ve got four characters (why does that seem so familiar?), ten different weapons, and a life that lasts only so long as you can preserve it. That means killing a lot of zombies, but really, what else are you going to do in the middle of an apocalypse–knit?

Zombie Apocalypse will be available this week for about ten bucks, or whatever the equivalent price is in irritating game-console-currency.

There’s so much to love here, from the bobbled hat and the heroine’s softly rounded face to the gorgeous light effects, and that’s even before you get to the fact that Lucidity is the product of the amazing folks at LucasArts.

Sophie, the game’s protagonist, moves on her own across the screen, while players must manipulate objects in the environment around her. It’s Lemmings for a new day, with an adorable little girl and her adventure. Not sure how it all works? Check out the vid.

Aww, even the guns are adorable!  You’d never guess that people have been arguing about boycotting this sweetly violent little scene. Shadow Complex is based on a novel by Orson Scott Card, who is notoriously active in campaigning against gay rights.  But it seems that the overwhelmingly glowing reviews are winning out against gamer distaste, as Shadow Complex has rocked XBLA downloads.

And people are crafting little LEGO scenes. Speaking of… as good as Shadow Complex may be, LEGO bricks will always be better. They have truly infinite replayability! But Shadow Complex will only cost you about $15, whereas bricks? Not always so cheap.

You may be able to guess what ‘Splosion Man is about. If you, in fact, guessed “‘sploding things,” you may already be a winner! Just not at this game. Twisted Pixel’s latest is about a guy who can explode at will, and in this “platformer,” instead of jumping, guess what you do?

Yeah, I bet you’ve got it.

Perhaps most interesting is that the game features four player local multiplayer, as well as a number of other modes, for maximum potential fun. There’s nothing like exploding all over your friends when they’re right next to you.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter is getting an upgrade, a polish, and the letters HD attached to its name for its release later this summer. The revamped shooter will sell for 1200 Microsoft points, which is a steal for such a giant pile of badassery.

Pricing and release info–all the important stuff, you know–is still up in the air, but no one seems shy about showing Space Ark off. With the popularity of downloadable puzzle games, this one’s probably in the bag as a success.

The service isn’t just limited to games, either; you can buy points or subscriptions to the Microsoft service, too, and since you’re dealing with codes, if you want to give the items as gifts, just hand over the number.

The service, which just launched, is nice if only for one reason: I’d much rather see a price tag in dollars than in Microsoft points!
