Chinese-Built Superyacht Can Be Controlled Via iPad

I guess that in the future, everyone will control everything using their tablets. With that in mind, some enterprising manufacturers in China decided to make their latest superyacht controllable via an iPad. I bet this beats your Parrot AR.Drone any day.

The iPad can control the yacht from a distance of 164 feet. The Adastra superyacht is 140 feet long, weighs about 47 tons and can travel 4,000 nautical miles at 17 knots. Top speed is 22.5 knots. It was designed by John Shuttleworth and looks like a cross between a spaceship and a hovercraft. It took five years and cost $15 million to build. It was constructed in China by McConaghy Boats. The Adastra fits nine guests and six crew members.

The yacht was streamlined using glass and Kevlar foam and a superstructure made up of carbon fiber with a honeycomb core. It was made for Hong Kong shipping industry billionaire Anto Marden to shuttle between Indonesian islands that he owns.

Sick of the sea? This new motorboat from Iguana Yachts will deploy treads and let just drive your fancy ship right out of the water when you’re ready to get back on dry land. Why does this remind me of a James Bond movie?

The Iguana 29 has retractable tank treads that will deploy when needed. The treads are powered by electricity, so they don’t make much noise, either. This means that to beach or dock the boat, you won’t need any help at all. It’s also designed to help you get out of a jam at low tide or if you get too close to a sandbar in shallow waters.

It was created by Antoine Fritsch. The idea was to create a design for the treads that wouldn’t compromise the look of the hull.

While there are already other amphibious boats, none of them look as stylish or modern as this one. The Iguana 29 is available starting at around €215,000 (~$280,000 USD).

God only knows why anybody would need a remote control made of pure gold, but there must be some market for this thing, or else they wouldn’t be making them.

Created by Denmark’s Lantic Systems, the gold remote is designed for operating home media and automation systems including video, audio, internet, CCTV, alarm, lights, curtains, air-conditioning and even navigation systems. Oh yeah, I guess I didn’t mention that when I said ‘home’, I meant ‘yacht’.

Assuming that you’ve got a yacht (or maybe a fleet of yachts), this $55,000 gold remote will look great alongside your solid gold anchor.
