The guys over at Guns & Gardens have come up with a magical weapon that is full of rainbows and colorful stickers (but no lollipops.) The “OMG-AR15 Unicorn Zombie Gun” is perfectly named. Just look at it.

But this isn’t just some toy gun or some mod that just makes it look neat. This is deadly serious. Under all those stickers is a CA-legal Smith & Wesson M&P15, chambered in .223/5.56 tri-color dot scope, with a 6-position stock and an attached 18v rechargeable chain saw with a fast-swap bayonet mount. Put your jaw back up and wipe your chin.

Yes, this is instant death to any Zombie dumb enough to cross your path. Instant, colorful death. Although you won’t look manly wielding this thing. Now I know what kind of heat to pack for my next My Little Pony hunt.

Chances are you have too many pencils and pens and no good place to put them. If you got attacked by a zombie, you could defend yourself by stabbing them into his or her head, but then he would just walk away with them, so this zombie head pencil holder is the next best option.

Plus, this one won’t attack you. It also makes a great conversation piece. Each handpainted zombie has 6 holes in its head for holding on to your pencils and pens. Its eyes are magnets to keep your paperclips in one place too, and the removable tongue is a tray for small items and business cards.

The slit in the back of the neck will hold your letters and papers. Since you can’t battle a real zombie and claim his head for your desk, this will have to do for now. The zombie head pencil holder is available for $34.95(USD) over at the Neatoshop.

The Zombie Brains Friendship Necklace Set signifies so much more than your friendship with a fellow flesh-eater. It shows that you would be willing to give half of your brain to another zombie and take half of theirs in return. Not that it really matters, anyway – you’re both knuckleheads who don’t have girlfriends to share your Zombie Brains Friendship Necklace Set with. It is only socially acceptable for girls to have friendship necklaces with other girls – guys usually don’t do that kind of thing. Guys usually don’t have necklaces that spell B-R-A-I-N-S, though, so we might be able to make an exception.

Also, to the rule that you can’t wear masks at work, you can wear the LED Anti-Aging Mask. We’re only making an exception because someone tripped on your face sag a couple of days ago, and now the company is facing lawsuits. THEY TRIPPED ON YOUR FACE SAG. How does that even happen?! But I digress.

The Zombie Brains Friendship Necklace Set is from ThinkGeek, and is $30. don’t think of it as $30, think of it as buying two $15 necklaces. Because that’s exactly what you’re doing! This has been a journey into Derp land, please step off of the ride and keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle. *Revs up bone saw* I see only one way that I am going to be able to leave and follow the directions. Good thing I’m a zombie, or this would hurt like a bone saw! Because it is a bone saw! “Where did you even get one of those?” The internet.

If you’d like to throw your money at someone, please visit your local school at Penny the Freshmen day. If you would like to throw money at the Zombie Brains Friendship Necklace Set, go ahead and pogo jump yourself all the way over to ThinkGeek.

The latest slingshot from Joerg Sprave has turned up and while it’s lacking the zombie (and coconut) crushing power of the last one we talked about with a hammer on the end, the new one is pretty hot. By hot, I really mean hot too. Sprave fitted his new Entropy Slayer 2000 slingshot with its own heater.

As he shows in his video, as soon as you stretch the rubber band on a slingshot, the band heats up, which gives the slingshot more firing power. Right away the band cools and as the heat leaves, the power declines too. The problem is if you want to have your slingshot loaded and ready to fire you end up losing power. The answer to the problem of losing that power is to apply heat.

Sprave took a heating element and encapsulated it and the rubber bands in an enclosure that traps the heat and keeps the bands nice and warm for firing. This way when he stretches the bands, he can heat them up for maximum power. The heater is powered by a rechargeable battery and appears to heat quickly. He’s also included an interior/exterior thermometer for optimizing the temperature.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if Joerg heated up the rubber bands on some of his more destructive creations like the circular saw slingshot or the slingshot cannon.

While many mobile gamers have probably moved on from Plants vs. Zombies by now, I’m still not finished with the most painfully difficult mini-games yet, so it’s still in heavy rotation on my iPad. Somebody else is still enjoying their PvZ too, as is evidenced by this excellent birthday cake, inspired by the game.

The cake was created by Imelda Wikamulia as a present for Technabob reader Greg Off’s birthday, and it’s loaded up with all of our favorite PvZ characters. In the pics, I can see some sunflowers, peashooters, kernel-pults, wall-nuts, a couple of potato mines and torchwood among other defenses. There are also ample zombies on the attack.

Virtually the entire thing is edible, including the hardened sugar pool, and the coconut-dusted green lawn. About the only thing you can’t eat are the tiny cloth costumes made for some of the zombies. As the individual plant and zombie pops get finished off, there’s a whole bunch of additional ones for the eating.

Kudos to Imelda for a great geeky cake, and thanks again to Greg for sending along the pics. Now I need to go find me some sugar, so I can stay up late to finish those pesky mini-games.

Our pal Joerg Sprave is one spooky dude with all sorts of slingshots around that will fend off a zombie invasion without bullets. Joerg is back this time out with a new slingshot that he designed specifically for the zombie apocalypse. This one shoots regular metal balls, rather than saw blades like some of the other devices he had made.

One end of the new Zombiehammer slingshot is your typical slingshot that is powerful and shoots metal ball bearings. The other end of the slingshot is where the zombie smashing magic happens. Joerg built a giant spike into one side and a massive ball on the other. So it’s both a projectile and a melee weapon in one.

The spike even has an ejector so if you spike a zombie and the spike sticks, you can pull the elector lever and pop the undead skull off your spike. Take Joerg’s words to heart, he would never use this thing on a human, only a Zombie.

After decades of scarring girls by giving them an impossible ideal of beauty, body issues and eating disorders, it’s nice to see that Barbie will now be doing something productive – preparing them for the eventual zombie apocalypse.

New from Mattel (not really) comes Zombie Attack Barbie. She has her pink war outfit that comes in both military and slut-casual, a pink camo helmet, a bazooka with 2 rounds, some grenades, a cricket bat and even a Samurai sword.

Zombie Ken is also available – though he’s not looking too hot. Board up that Malibu beach house, run some undead over with Barbie’s Convertible and whatever you do, don’t get bit by these undead flesh addicts. Which shouldn’t be all that hard really, since Barbie doesn’t have a brain. She should be safe just picking Zombies off left and right as they pass on her in search of brainier victims.

Another year, another Zombie Safe House Competition. This entertaining annual contest seeks out the best ideas for protecting you from a zombie attack, and they recently revealed the winners for this year’s outing. This year’s winner: The Vagabond Mobile Safe House Device (or v.MSHD for short.)

Designed by Austin Fleming, the Vagabond is a portable shelter, which one could strap to their back and quickly set up to keep those brain-seeking zombies out of your way. The concept behind the Vagabond is that it would provide a complete safe haven from zombie hordes, thanks to its sturdy coiled dome structure, and its reflective shell.

The exterior of the shell helps the shelter camouflage into any environment, while at the same time, bouncing bright sunlight back into the zombies’ eyes. Sounds like it might help keep vampires out too. Inside the shelter, a ventilation system exhausts CO2, and battery-operated devices can be recharged thanks to the Vagabond’s photovoltaic surface cells. And want to know if the coast is clear or if there are zombies outside? Well, there’s an app for that.

About the only thing missing from the Vagabond is a way to kill zombies from inside the shelter itself. I’d want to have those cutouts they have on armored trucks, which let you fire a gun from inside. Of course, if you happen to have the strain of zombies from The Walking Dead, that’ll just attract more. Guess you could always try and fire a crossbow at the approaching undead.

You can find more entries and runners up from the 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition here. My second favorite is the Zombie Steamhouse, which automatically takes care of approaching zombies by crushing them in giant gears and mashing them into a pulp.

[via bustler]

Halloween is just right around the corner. If you haven’t gotten around to making or renting out a costume for this year, then you’d better go get one right now (although you might get stuck with some duds; it is just a few days until the ghouliest day of the year, after all.)

The only pumpkins I’ve ever managed to carve were ones with foolish grins and crooked smiles. And I used to think they were pretty decent, until I saw what Ray Villafane managed to do with his pumpkin.

Working with regular-sized pumpkins is already enough of a challenge for most people. But Ray did a more than spectacular job carving these creepy zombies and demons bursting out from their pumpkin grave from the world’s largest pumpkin. And when we say “world’s largest,” we really do mean the world’s largest and heaviest, as it weighed in at 1,818.5 pounds.

The giant pumpkin carving will be on display at the New York Botanical Garden until month’s end so drop by and take a few shots, if you happen to be in the area.

Braiiiiiinnns… braaaaainsss, we all know the zombie mantra. I have found the perfect prop for those of you that plan to dress as a zombie this Halloween or if you are just really hungry for a giant brain made out of gummi stuff. There are a few downsides to this Giant Gummi Brain though.

The first downside is that it is bubble gum flavored. I mean seriously, what genius though that making a red brain that isn’t cherry flavored was a good idea. This is oblivious to the fact that a gummy brain needs to be gray anyhow. On the plus-side, the brain is nearly life-size. Honestly, it’s probably larger than the brains in most of the folks I know.

It’s gluten free and measures approximately 7.7″ (L) x 6.1″ (W) x 3″ (H), and the thing weighs in at about 7 pounds, which is way heavier than the real deal. The giant gummi brain can be yours for £19.99 (~$32 USD) over at Firebox. you can pre-order it right now with a ship date that is unknown. This would be easy to share amongst other zombies using the trusty Crovel to chop it up.

MacBook vinyl stickers are all the rage, and you can install these ones without consequence, since they don’t leave any residue when you want to take them off.

I have talked about the implements of zombie protection that the geek known as Joerg Sprave creates on a few occasions. This is the dude behind the machete flinging slingshot and that slingshot that shoots a bunch of ball bearings. The guy is back with his latest slingshot and it is even scarier than the last.

This time around, Sprave has built a slingshot that looks like it will hack off his fingers at any second. This slingshot shoots circular saw blades down its path and they will fly a long way. The first iteration had nothing on the top to spin the blade making the blade unstable in flight. The second design had a top part that caused the blade to spin and stabilized the flight.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The saw blade is deadly at close range, it could hack half a zombies head off in one shot. I keep excepting this guy to sustain some sort of grievous injury playing with his projects. I can only imagine how bad a backfire with a saw blade weapon would be.

I talk a lot about things that will help you survive the zombie invasion. One day when you open your door to see that old lady across the street eating your neighbor, you will thank me. Yesterday, I reckoned that the Crovel would be the perfect tool for said invasion. I would like to add the new Prism 200c to my zombie survival box.

We all know that zombies might be too weak to turn a doorknob, and not particularly fast, but they are able to hide in a dark room waiting for dinner like a fat kid trying to raid the snack drawer. The Prism 200c is a radar-based device that you wear like a backpack and when you need to see if and where people, living or dead, are in a room you press it to the wall.

It looks like some sort of old school Pong game in a backpack, but that display is actually giving users a 3D representation of how many people are in the room and exactly where they are. It will also show when the people move around. The device is made for soldiers in the field to check a room and can be networked with zombie command.

The Crovel is an awesome looking survival tool and I really want one even though I have no need for a short spade to dig with. This thing may well be the tool best suited for a life on the run from zombie hoards ever invented. It can dig so you can bury those smelly zombies after you club them to death with one of three implements of zombie killing.

The Crovel has a handle with a pic axe on one end. The space end of the shovel has a serrated saw on one side and a knife-edge on the other. This thing will slice and dice zombies all week long. The other side of that crow bar/pickaxe is a hammer.

The handle is wrapped in 15-feet of 550 paracord so you can climb to safety if need be. This very interesting tool has 13 tools for all sorts of tasks. It looks like that notch under the serrated edge might be for opening the last beer on earth. The Crovel sells for about $99 (USD).

I would imagine in a zombie invasion DIY geeks are going to be a sought after addition to any still-living crew looking to beat back the undead. This dude is going to have to redefine his machete-chunking slingshot though before the zombie apocalypse comes. Any one that has seen The Walking Dead knows a quiet weapon is a huge bonus, but you need to be able to reload fast since zombies hunt in packs.

Joerg Sprave has created a scarily-thin looking weapon out of wood and surgical tubing that flings a machete at a target. The machete is apparently notched just for use with the weapon and would have a slow reload time. If I have ever seen an accident waiting to happen, this is it. The other use problem I have always seen with any blunt instrument or bladed weapon when fighting off zombies is splatter.

I think you would be among the infected quickly, having to pull a machete from a recently killed undead corpse. The weapon looks really cool, but I think there are some limitations. Watch those fingers, Mr. Inventor.

Google Street View is a cool thing to use to check out your own neighborhood or to go on virtual tours of places you might want to visit at some point. But other than checking out landmarks and seeing your house from street view or satellite view there isn’t much to do with Google Maps as a standalone app.

A new game has turned up that uses the Google Maps API, and Street View to let you run from zombie hoards. The game is called Streetview Zombie Apocalypse. You can put in your address and then the game starts with little red markers on the map that are the zombies.

As you move with the arrows on the screen, the zombies change you and try to eat your brain. You have to navigate away from them and try to survive. The game is a beta offering (it works best in Google Chrome), and it appears from my brief playtime you can just stop and the zombies lose track of you.

Fans of AMC’s hit zombie show will be happy to know that in addition to the show being renewed for a second season, the first round of Walking Dead collectible merch has surfaced with McFarlane Toys readying a series of Walking Dead collectible action figures.

Two series of 6-inch-tall figures are set to ship this Fall, with September’s Series 1 featuring Rick Grimes (looks like he found his bag of guns), Michonne, a Zombie Lurker and a Zombie Roamer. The second series ships in November and includes an alternate version of Grimes, Daryl Dixon, a Zombie Walker and a Zombie Biter. The toys each have articulating joints and the zombies even have some removable limbs and other body parts. And from the looks of the early prototype of Michonne that MTV’s Splash Page managed to dig up, she’s got a sword and a drill on hand for plenty of brutal zombie-killing action.

All eight figures are available for pre-order over at Entertainment Earth for $14.99 (USD) each, or in sets of 4 for $55.99. While you wait, you can check out more pics over on Facebook. Personally, I wish they would make one with Merle Dixon with a removable hand.

Keira Knightley is still hot as a zombie despite the fact that she is missing an arm. The site has a bunch of other celebrities done up as zombies too. I have to say Justin Bieber is the scariest looking zombie. His music already gives me the creeps; I would hate to see him shuffling after my brain.

The strangest one is the Tom Cruise zombie. We all know that the mothership would pick him up well before the infection spread. Hope over to to Worth 1000 and see tons of zombified stars for yourself.

I’m not sure what would be worse, being eaten by zombie hoards, or having to live in this shelter. Both of them will probably kill you but the zombies will do it faster than death by lockjaw. This armored house is bulletproof supposedly. That’s good because no one will be hit with your strays when you eventually off yourself after having to look at the rusty walls each day.

The metal house has a table, a toilet, and a bench to sit on. The wood stove is to keep it warm inside. I bet this thing would roast your chestnuts in a hot climate like Texas. I see a few issues with the design though. One – there is no TP and apparently you just shat down that tube and it falls to the ground underneath. Sort of an obvious design flaw having an opening to the outside where the zombie virus can just drift up onto your arse when you are dropping a deuce. Plus a zombie could reach up there and rip off your hotdog.

The second design flaw is the light bulb. The thing has no solar panels or other way to power that light. Other than those two issues, the thing still sucks. The guy who made it should sandblast and paint it before the apocalypse, and get a place for important things like say TP, food, and water.

This is the SS Huckleberry, and one of only four entries in the 2010 Zombie Safe House Competition. When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense going on the rivers, since zombies will probably have trouble eating you if they have to swim.

Like many people, I found The Walking Dead on AMC a welcome distraction, but it was somewhat boring story-wise. The survivors should definitely opt for something like this, allowing them to move around the coastal areas of the USA without getting too swamped by zombies. Designer Shea Michael Trahan even went so far to provide directions for creating zombie diesel fuel to power the boat. Brilliant.

If you’re interested, there’s going to be another contest for 2011 but all in all, this one looks like a pretty good option, as zombie safe houses go. Those pesky zombies; staying underground never works against them. You need to stay mobile.
