Need to get away from somewhere in a hurry? You had better hope there’s a Lucid Air Sapphire nearby because the car just set a blistering 0-60MPH time of 1.77 seconds, making it the fastest production sedan on the market. The vehicle is billed as the “world’s first luxury electric super-sports sedan” and costs $249,000 fully equipped. But how much is a model that’s just barely equipped?
Building on the performance of Lucid’s previous Air models, the Sapphire is its all-out version, with its 3 motors generating 1,234 horsepower, 1430 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 205MPH. In the video below, Brooks Weisblat of Drag Times managed to finish the quarter-mile in a record-setting 8.94 seconds, pulling 1.5Gs at launch. That…sounds dangerously fast.
Would the Air Sapphire make a suitable getaway car? I would certainly imagine so. Its 427-mile range isn’t too shabby, either. That should be enough to get you across the border into Mexico, provided you’re already in the southwest. You’ll never make it from New York, though. At least not without pulling into the back of a tractor-trailer Knight Rider style to recharge.
