AMOG has compiled a massive list of NES and arcade games that will surely bring back memories of cartridge-blowing and hypnotic synth music. There are a whopping 95 games on the list; their titles are linked to websites where you can play them for free. There’s a whole range of classics here, from popular ones like Contra and Duck Hunt to virtual S&M-torture-frustration machines like Blaster Master and Xevious and… well… Contra.
I’m not sure if you can only play the games via keyboard, but I really think that the best way to experience these classics is with a gamepad or a joystick. Most of them have really simple controls anyway, so you wouldn’t need 104 keys to play. The original Pong arcade machine didn’t even have buttons.
I think it would be a good idea for aspiring game designers to take a good look at these games because classics like these prove that gameplay is the most important aspect of video games.
