Asteroid Lamp Hits Living Rooms: Activate Hyperspace!

Asteroid Lamp Hits Living Rooms: Activate Hyperspace!
Pay tribute to one of classic arcade games of all time with these Asteroids-inspired lighting fixtures. Each lamp is comprised of 24 facets, each slightly different in size and shape – which makes them look really cool when placed in multiples and set on different sides.

Shower Radio Disguised as a Shampoo Bottle: Why?

Shower Radio Disguised as a Shampoo Bottle: Why?
This isn’t exactly high-tech, but it’s a strange enough gadget that I wanted to share it. It’s a waterproof radio for your shower that’s disguised as a shampoo bottle. Sooo… what’s the rationale behind this product?

Iomega Hip Flask Storage: Don’T Drink and Hard Drive
Hmmm. Would you rather be caught drinking on the job, or sneaking sensitive company data out of the office? Now you don’t have to choose, thanks to this new portable hard drive that looks just like a hip flask.

Cassette Tape Skeleton: Honey, I Made You a Mix Tape
This oooey-gooey delicious skeleton is made from the melted down old carcasses of cassette tapes. Artist Brian Dettmer created these guys for an exhibition at the International Museum of Surgical Science, right here in my hometown of Chicago.

Nixie Tube Clock Offers Retro Modern Time Keeping

Nixie Tube Clock Offers Retro Modern Time Keeping
This certainly wouldn’t be the first Nixie tube clock that I’ve written about, but it is definitely one of my favorite designs. Maybe it’s the funky front-facing display tubes that make it super sweet. There’s something just so right about the contrast of the sleek modern acrylic box which serves as a home for the intricate retro display tubes.

Excel Art is Lots More Fun Than Formulas and Functions

Excel Art is Lots More Fun Than Formulas and Functions
Artist Danielle Aubert creates pixelated masterpieces using Microsoft Excel, with surprisingly dazzling results. About the project, she says, “…the drawings are a part of a series that I executed on an irregular daily basis for 16 months.

Star Wars Characters Get Plush, Deformed

Star Wars Characters Get Plush, Deformed
There’s no reason that the pillows on your couch have to be square, round or rectangular. Why shouldn’t they reflect your Star Wars addiction like anything else? These plush versions of classic characters from the Star Wars universe are just too cool.

Journey Mp3 Player: Don’T Stop Believin’

Journey Mp3 Player: Don’T Stop Believin’
1980s power-ballad mavens Journey and technology have a long-standing relationship. Back in 1983, they entered the geek psyche with the classic Journey arcade machine. Now they’re back in the electronics biz with their own MP3 player.

USB Chinese Bbq Looks Delicious, but Inedible

USB Chinese Bbq Looks Delicious, but Inedible
We seem to have a food theme going this morning. After you nosh on an appetizer of some Lego sushi, why not fill up your belly with some USB BBQ? These goofy USB flash memory devices are disguised to look like crispy, delicious Chinese BBQ.

LEGO Sushi Looks Stacky and Scrumptious

LEGO Sushi Looks Stacky and Scrumptious
Too bad this Lego sushi is inedible, because it looks oddly delicious! I love the wasabi- that’s got to be a specialty color. I must be in serious need of a snack because I actually drooled a little bit when I saw these pictures.

Rock Out Like a Real-Life Link With This Playable Ocarina

Crabfu Golf Robot Hits the Links

Crabfu Golf Robot Hits the Links
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a very good golfer. If you take par, then multiply it by a factor of 1.5x, that’s about what I usually hit. So I guess I was pretty pleased to see that this little robotic golfer doesn’t play any better than I do.

When is a Computer Case Not a Case at All?

When is a Computer Case Not a Case at All?
Looking for a way to keep your souped-up PC from overheating? This series of bold acrylic cases out of Japan does away with convention by doing away with the exterior case walls, thus eliminating much of the heat which might otherwise be trapped by a traditional enclosure.

‘Portal’ Companion Cube Cookies- Obscure but Tasty

‘Portal’ Companion Cube Cookies- Obscure but Tasty
I recently spotted these ‘weighted companion cube’ cookies from the somewhat obscure (or maybe that’s just me?) video game Portal. I’ll freely admit I’ve never even heard Portal until about 15 minutes ago when I saw a picture of this cookie, but I did some reconnaissance and learned that in the game you get a weighted companion cube as some kind of reward.

Atmos 561 Clock Powered Solely by Temperature Changes

Atmos 561 Clock Powered Solely by Temperature Changes
The Atmos 561 mechanical clock, designed by Marc Newson, is powered by changes in the temperature, so you never need to wind it up. Oh, and also, it’s encased in a big block of crystal. This design marks the 80th anniversary of Atmos clocks by the Swiss maker Jaeger LeCoultre (try spelling that 10 times really fast!) Now bear with me while I explain how it works, because it’s a little science-y.
