Building on Pokémon’s fiction while sharing a piece of her childhood, artist Maré Odomo created a few Pokémon-themed comics titled Letters to an Absent Father, in which the franchise’ original protagonist Ash Ketchum writes letters – which he may or may not have actually sent – to his dad, who has been mentioned but never actually appeared in the Pokémon cartoons or games.
Dawwww. So far Odomo has published three of these, with one more on the way.
He has this to say about the third comic, seen below: “Fun fact: The colors in Ash’s room are based on my the bedroom I had when I was 10 or so. This was also around the time my parents started sleeping in different rooms and I was reeeeally confused.”
The drawing of Ash crying is just… hey what’s that behind you? *wipes eyes* Watch out for the fourth comic on Odomo’s Tumblr or Flickr page; he also has lots of other cool comics and art on the latter.
