How slim? The Mythos XTR-50 by Definitive Technology wowed folks at CES 2010 with it’s 1.5-inch thick body. The secret? Aluminum. The Mythos XTR-50 wall-mounted speaker has an “aircraft-grade” extruded aluminum enclosure, two 3.5″ anodized aluminum drivers with their patent-pending “XTDD technology”, four 3.5″ aluminum dome bass radiators and a 1″ pure aluminum dome tweeter.
If you’re in the market for a smartphone, but want to run something besides Windows Mobile, Android or the iPhone OS, you might want to check out this little rarity from China that runs on a flavor of the Linux operating system.
While there are tons of DIY and homebrew analog synthesizers floating around the universe these days, this is the first time in a long while that I’ve seen an analog synth from a major electronic instrument manufacturer in quite some time.
When it comes to getting drinks the only things that come in square containers are juice boxes and milk. Huey Lewis always said it was hip to be square, and this new design concept for green Coke bottles has turned up on Yanko Design that is pretty hip.
I think most people who retire today are lucky to get a potluck dinner and a cake as they leave before the fight over their vacated office ensues. In years gone by you might get a gold watch after years of service, but I don’t think that happens much today.
It’s kind of fitting that there is now a robot that will combine robotics with the iPod Touch. If you think about it, it actually makes sense. People have their iPods with them almost everywhere, and it’s a perfect device to have as the heart of a robot since it can access WiFi networks and the Internet.
Even though “cute aliens” are the idea behind Franco Brambilla‘s art, what I really find interesting is the funny vignettes into which Brambilla has injected these Star Wars vehicles and ships.
I’ve never considered an AT-AT or an AT-ST cute, but these paintings, which are supposed to look like postcards, made me chuckle.
A sneaky press release (pdf, Japanese) reveals that the next version of the Nintendo DS will feature glasses-free 3D. Tentatively called Nintendo 3DS, the device will apparently still be compatible with DS and DSi games.
When was the last time a Flash game made you feel good? If you’re old enough to know who Erasure is, stop whatever it is you’re doing, go to Adult Swim Games right now, and click on Robot Unicorn Attack.
A loving and deep-pocketed farmer read somewhere that dairy cows that see green fields all the time are happier and produce more milk. So he bought a bunch of Samsung 40″ Series 7 LED TVs and had them installed in his cow barn, so now his cows can watch “a non-stop loop of world’s recognized green Swiss Alpine fields.”
I am a rather messy geek. I drink lots of Dr. Pepper and hate to get up while I work, which means I tend to accrue many cans on my desk throughout a day. Back when I used dual LCDs, that means that I ran out of room for junk on my desk fast so I moved to a larger single LCD.
Well, it looks like the iPod is now capable of remote controlling your car. Well not your car, but Dave Philipps did manage to control his classic Pontiac GTO with his iPod.
Dave’s totally tricked-out GTO has wireless controls for the ignition, doors, windows, radio, drop top, and even his trunk.
I have about 163 different USB gadgets on my desk at any given time – all fighting for the six USB ports my computer has. To fix this issue I have a USB hub plugged in that more than quadruples the number of USB devices I can connect at once ensuring my humping dog flash drive has all the juice it needs to defile my computer.
Remember that fabulous Gundam statue from Tokyo? It was originally erected to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the animated series. Well, it’s coming back better than ever! With a lightsaber, need I say more?
