When I see art that’s made out of big pixels, I always tend to take off my glasses to see how they look when they are blurry. Sure enough, since I’m nearsighted, usually they look pretty good. Artist Shawn Smith has created some great pieces of art, which bring pixels into the real world.
In a recent interview, Shawn said that he finds images of his subjects online, then creates 3D sculptural representations of these 2D images, using man-made composites as well as recycled materials. They’re kind of real-life voxels.
All in all, I think they’re pretty awesome. I like the vultures going at the phone and typewriter. It’s seems likeĀ an interesting statement. What it means, I don’t know. You can find out more about Shawn, and see more of his 3D pixel creations over at his website.
