Kudos are in order for Griffin. Not only is the new CarTrip a cool sounding product that works with the iPhone to allow you to monitor things about your car, but they resisted the temptation to strap an “i” in front of the product name. The CarTrip is an OBD-II hardware interface that plugs into that port on most newer cars under the steering wheel.
Once connected to your ride, you can use your iPhone to watch all sorts of information about your car as you roll around. You can run the CleanDrive App on the iPhone that analyzes data and displays it instantaneously in a graphical display. Presumably, the point is to help you drive in a greener fashion.
The device can also give you fuel efficiency into and the best part is that it will tell you what is really going on if your Check Engine light comes on. The CarTrip will launch “soon” and will set you back about $90 when it does. Your iPhone has to be running iOS 4.0 or higher, and the app works on other iOS devices too.
