I am a big fan of lasers and laser guns. Sure, they are mostly the stuff of science fiction, but the military is making some great advances in using lasers on the battlefield today. I want something a bit more portable than a laser that needs an entire jet to carry though, and a geek named Patrick Priebe has made it.

I’ll admit it, I used to love watching Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. My brain ate that formulaic plot up: start with a scene with all the Rangers at school, then a monster appears, they fight the foot soldiers unmorphed, then they morph and fight some more, then the monster of the day appears and they get owned, then the monster grows, then the Power Rangers summon their robots and beat the crap out of the monster.

Aside from graphics, video game sound effects have gotten more complex over time as well. But does that mean that they have gotten better? What if the sound designers back then had access to the technology we have today?

Artist Pawel Hynek‘s striking image isn’t all that recent, but it’s thought-provoking to say the least. The image features an almost derelict robot begging for power in exchange for processing data. It’s funny, but uncomfortable at the same time, since many people will lose or have lost their jobs due to automation.

This strangely-named keyboard, the S.N.A.K., which stands for Social Network Access Keyboard, has got way too many Facebook logos for my taste, and ultimately it does look like a Dynex Multimedia Keyboard with some stickers on it, but hey, if you love Facebook and social networking, this might be right up your alley.

The guys at Nokia and Burton have collaborated to create a custom rig which allows them to track key statistics from snowboarders as they careen down the mountainside.

I am at times a crane game savant. You know the game at the store where you can win prizes by grabbing them with the gaping maw of a crane scoop. I once won two toys in a row from that thing, and now each time we go to the store my daughter begs me to win her some toys.

If Doc Brown even needed to travel to another time with extra clothes and flux capacitors in tow, this is the DeLorean he would use. The DeLorean was the stuff of car lust for me before I discovered Cannonball Run and the Lamborghini in my youth.

Back in the day Kazaa was one of the places that many folks went to get their pirate on and share tunes without paying for them. After the RIAA got a hold of Napster and other peer-to-peer sharing sites Kazaa decided to go legit and started selling music subscriptions.

We’ve seen NES controllers turned into flash drives and NES cartridges used as cases for external hard drives. But neither of those mods are as awesome – or as ridiculous – as what Instructables user Ed Lewis made: a NES cartridge flash drive with a complementary NES console USB port.

As addictive as the seemingly simple but obviously complicated Angry Birds game is, I wonder what will be next. It seems that creating new levels and birds isn’t what that will be. I think Tiny Wings is where it will be happening next.

If you have a ton of keys on your keying in your pocket I would bet that you get annoyed by all the bulk and having to dig for the key you want. You can’t just throw away all the keys to your office, home, storage, and cars, but you can make them easier to carry.

I’ll tell you LEGO gun replicas are awesome on their own, but when you combine that with the fact that these awesome gun replicas actually shoot I get all tingly inside. These guns don’t shoot real bullets mind you, they shoot rubber bands.
